Crafting Matters

Crafting system made sure everyone who put in X amount of time will eventually get the perk combo they want , whether it took 5 hours or 20 hours to get all patterns and that respected players time and it was a good move by bungie Then you go ahead and remove it from seasonal weapons , is it because the one who introduced it got layed off or something idk ? You removed luck based system to something that rewards someone who spends their time . I've focused around 300 Aurvandil FR6 and didn't get a single one with reconstruction and chill chip and my friend got it on their 5th or 6th focus. That is the bullshit randomness system you have with current seasonal weapons, dungeon weapons Other than hard core players who spend hours grinding your game ( who will eventually burn out ofcourse ) , you're making the game less appealing for anyone who has a job and have limited playtime which is majority of playebase. Idk about others but I feel less motivated to buy season passes anymore or play anything beyond the story ( which I can just YouTube it ) .. the time spend on destiny just got less rewarding and if you're " unlucky " you make zero progress. You had a nice idea and you're throwing it away and making the game less appealing. Good job bungie.

  • If they add them at a later date I am okay with it as long as it’s added, but the lack of red bar weapons has completely removed my desire to play the seasonal activities. I may have done four Revenant Onslaughts and I just don’t care to play it anymore. Even when I get new weapons they always seem to be the same rolls anyway so It’s usually just an auto-delete. Bungie would have to go back to a sunsetting scenario where I need to get those guns to give me any motivations. They won’t because they’ve always been too scarce and sparse with loot drops in a looter shooter game.

  • Make Crafting Great Again ... There certainly should be *some* items to craft rather than back to 10,000 combination RNG. If they want a half-way house, they should take a leaf out of Division 2s book on crafting and allow ONE trait to be switched out to our preference. Why? Because after 6 years rolls more than ever need to be at or near 5/5 rolls to justify their space. Otherwise we now are likely to have better options.

Crafting matters in this game because it's not fun to run the same content that has a miniscule difference between load ins. This game gets repetitive extremely fast for me. There is no amount of bosses, different paths in Tomb of Elders, etc. It all plays the same. I do an objective that has me stand somewhere or pick it up? Ohhhh! So engaging! If it weren't for the millionth time of us doing these mechanics just in new locations. Loot then becomes the only reason we do these activities. Not the gameplay. In FFXIV, I can do my dailies over and over because I'm getting what I need to progress AND I'm enjoying the content because there is no content vault. All content is relevant. Whether it's a level 20 dungeon or 90. There's so much content to experience that it's impossible to be able to master a lot of it. I will make mistakes and get hit at times. I will also play different jobs/ classes that I haven't touched to spice things up too. Destiny lacks this. Once you understand an encounter, it's as easy as putting the square in the square whole. Especially when casual match made content doesn't prepare people to take on endgame and it's also not even required to touch raids or harder activities. There's no incentive. So if the loot is garbage and can't be craftable, and the activities you're doing suck, then there's no point in playing. I already have loot that can take me through all content and Destiny is repetitive. Its not challenging. It's tedious. It's not fun. When I do something difficult in destiny I say "thank God it's over". When I complete something in FFXIV, I'm proud that we finished it because it was a fun time.

I don’t like the rng system because it feels like the more you play the worse your rng gets. I farm weapons for hours sometimes days and I never get the roll I want (matador farming and raid exotic farming are prime examples). After the weight gate bug patch it feels like my rng has gotten so bad it’s like why even bother. I do like the loot chase but when it takes way too long not really. That’s why I like crafting because it makes the loot chase bearable, by giving it a predictable end point. If they want to make crafting less prominent then they neeed sources of focusing that aren’t so expensive, attunement for weapons and perks, double perks, and the ability to reroll the perks or specific perk columns. Kinda like the menagerie, d1 banshee rerolling system, or onslaught attunement system.

    • Crafting (of weapons) was simply a good addition. For me, playing the game was more motivating than without it. But as always with Bungie, there's no constant with them.

I never understood the demand for it to be removed. "I had to grind for 100 weapon drops before my 5/5 dropped. I EARNED it! You only needed to farm 55 weapons to craft the roll I grinded hard for months to get!" "You should only get a god roll if you grind the raid 200 times over the course of 200 weeks and get lucky because thats the only valid way to be rewarded for time invested!" Like...Thats not something to you should be enthusiastic about... Thats a sign you have a mental illness.

      • The only good thing about removing crafting is that it allowed me to put my time toward fun games. This episode has made me realize that craftable seasonal weapons were the only thing that was keeping me coming back to activities, and now that they aren't a thing, I can't find a reason to hop on and do more than check vendors and eververse bright dust offerings each week.

        • I agree. Options do matter and removing crafting from the game bc streamers suggested it is not the answer. The game definitely took a step backwards by removing crafting. Not all new weapons have to be craftable, but at least 2 or 3 should have been craftable in Revenant.

          • It also help reduce vault space clutters too with crafting. Rng just take up more spaces. We make up the majority of the playerbase, not the streamers.

          • People asked for crafting for years. Then we got it and we loved it. It puts God rolls in the hands of anyone willing to grind for them. Therefore, streamers and gatekeepers don't like it. The new director is one of the most close minded gatekeepers in the history of Destiny, so he'd rather us not have it. He still thinks that mentality works even though the game is on life support. Apparently, he isn't as intelligent as he thinks he is. If he were, he might remember how the most popular DLC in D1 was RoI even though it wasn't actually good in terms of story or content. The reason RoI was popular was because for the first time in Destiny history there was a path to God rolls and max light available to every player Needed a 400 ghost or class items? Play that event in the plaguelands. Needed a 400 artifact? Court of Oryx. 400 guns? Crucible. And all of those things could potentially roll max stats. The lack of gatekeeping in RoI kept people playing far longer than any other DLC. Sure, Luke Smith overdid the giveaway at D2 Y1. They finally got it right in Forsaken, but it's been downhill from there.

            • crafting in this game sucked. This not an MMO like WOW, it is a looter shooter. Bungie's desire to constantly change, and add perks has lead to an untenable situation. There are too many perk combos and too many worthless weapons. Making the grind impossible. Rather than address the core issue they put in place a poorly desired system that still relies too heavily on RNG. It was broken from the start and is still a poor replacement for good game design.

              • Crafting matters yes BUT crafting also killed the rewarding feeling of a gun. Before crafting, Rng was working and the feeling when u got the roll u wanted felt rewarding. now everyone run around with the GR they want. The game went from looter shooter to Crafting Shooter. My thoughts on the game now,the game feels broken beyond repair, for bungie to turn it around they need to do some drastic changes. How about make a Destiny 1 classic or Destiny 2 classic? Pretty sure one of those would have way more activity than D2 have atm

              • Weapon crafting was developed under Blackburn as game director, but with him gone, there's another director with his own vision. Getting rid of crafting is drastic, but with so many key developers gone, the game is now on a small way. No offense, but it's obvious that a few used Destiny 2 as "milking machine". Parsons was official criticized for spending over two millions in cars - instead of relinquish his salary and save jobs in his company. I personally think a behavior like this is very egocentric, with the knowledge of what's going on with the company, but it also shows the "quality" of a character. There's one part of me who wants to believe that Codename Frontiers will be something good, but there's also what I've seen over the last couple of years with the development of Destiny 2, and that was bad. I've learned in design school that "you" develop a constant and expand. You ramp the curve up - not down. And you take care of that curve and don't let it go down. That's universal; that's how you direct a product. But that's not how Bungie worked.

                  • Yeah, Bungie listening to the vocal complaining elitists is really hurting the playerbase. I've had very little motivation to play this season, and if weapon patterns aren't coming back, I don't know if I'll every have much motivation going forward. What's the point when I have limited time to spend on this game, and now I'm not even guaranteed to get anything worthwhile for my time. It's all gambling now, instead of having the certainty that if you were able to put in the time, you'd eventually get access to all the rolls you wanted or needed for your buildcrafting fun. And don't even get me started on how much our vaults are going to suffer now that we have to save any decent roll we are lucky enough to come across.

                    • Its a looter game. Thats why it was removed. The playerbase has been taking a nosedive for years and part of that is due to the fact that the game is no longer a looter shooter. It's a crafting shooter. Destiny had been a looter game for 7 years up until they added in crafting and making them come with enhanced perks was a massive oversight. Enhanced perks should have been only on random roll weapons to reward to the loot grinders and crafting should have been base perks only to make crafting a bad rng safety net. The ones that played for loot grind got ostracized for 2 years because they took enhanced perks and locked them to crafted weapons forcing players to either engage with the system or use objectively worse gear. Unfortunately 2 years of twisting my arm to force me to engage with the crafting system pretty much guaranteed I won't return unless they make the expansion free.

                    • Crafting should be a catch up mechanic not the main chase. Crafting should come to the seasonal weapons near the end of the year.

Let me craft exotic class item…3 characters not one god roll. Got around 16 since I came back to the game with attunement on I haven’t even gotten 1 with the perk I attuned. I know it’s not guaranteed but dang. I just want to feel the power the lucky ones have 😭

I don’t like the method we have to obtain these patterns. Takes forever or they will not drop. I’d much rather have a form of investment where you use a weapon to upgrade it, get kills or other objectives with it, to unlock more and more customizations to go along with it. Or be able to dismantle a weapon and obtain a perk to slot into the weapon during the fine tuning process.
