A foundation began and bricks were laid. With each release, the community built upon itself, creating a zany, irreverent, yet intimate subculture. Memes spawned and died, characters came and went, friends and enemies were made. Events so silly yet so profound nearly immortalized themselves in history. But then the company made a new game and with it, a new culture. It chased out the old and filtered the new. It became more corporate, played itself more safe. It purged the "undesirables" and chased away the colorful. Slowly, but surely, it quashed the remnants of what came before until all that remained was dust and echoes.
