Armor 2.0 - 1 step forward 3 steps back

Armor 2.0 has enormous potential. it allows us a level of customization previously unknown. BUT!!! this system is beyond ugly and punishing for players and has been the single largest factor in me moving away from destiny 2 (mostly) and on to other games. 1. there are SOOOOOOO many wasted stat points. if you are unlucky and all your stats end with 9, that is 54 stat points that have ZERO benefit to my gameplay. that amounts to an ENTIRE armor piece worth of stats 2. Exotic armor - the rarest armor in the game - can drop with way low stat values. farming a particular piece is impossible due to lack of dedicated drop sources. so if you HAPPEN to get the piece you want. if it HAPPENS to have high stat points. if it HAPPENS to have stat points in the stats you value. if it HAPPENS to have the proper elemental affinity for the build you are perusing... this is an undertaking that could take hundreds of hours. an expectation unfit for even the most hardcore of the player base 3. and this is the biggest one. i rarely have armor drop higher than 51 or 52 total stat points and i have invested almost 300 hours in shadowkeep. even from the raid, iron banner, or even exotic gear. this is - and i cannot understate this enough - incredibly dissatisfying and breaks my will to play this game, it makes me feel like i'm wasting my time My Answers 1. Those wasted stats, i see two feasible options. a. make each point worth a certain % in our cooldowns and dispense with tiers of gain or b. have all stats on gear roll in increments of 5 or 10 2. Exotics - they should ALWAYS drop with the HIGHEST MAX STAT POINT TOTAL thats it and thats all 3. Have all powerful drops roll with higher than average stat points. Have all pinnacle drops roll with max stat totals. this would not make it "easy" to complete the grind. 4. This is not directly related to any specific point i have brought up. this is to do with masterworking armor. instead of giving us two ponts per stat upon leveling a piece of armor to 10, give us points in a stat of OUR CHOOSING. this would also give us a solid way to customize our armor without making it too easy. if you are all still with me, thank you for hearing me out. now i would like to hear what all of you have to say

  • I don't like this fluctuating stat amount on armor. It shouldn't even exist. All armor should drop with the same amount of points but just distributed differently so you can farm for the right stat types. Make all armor with a fixed number like 65 or 70 points no matter where it drops from. These low stat drops was the worst idea they did with armor 2.0 along with affinity.

      • Pinnacle should have a floor, not a guarantee max. Something like 60 as the lowest up to max would be fine. Same goes for exotics. Also we should not be getting duplicate weapons. Once the weapon is acquired it should no longer be in the player loot pool. Once the player acquires all weapons the only thing they'll get is armor. This semi eliminates not having a legit way to farm exotics.

        • Yeah - it is really too much. I have more gear in my vault than ever now. System is messy as hell. Why can’t everything roll with max stats every once in a while? List goes on and on. I’ve masterworked one bond - screw the rest of that crap - it’s a chore to even figure out what mods go on what... Elemental mods.... soooo stupid

          • Personally I don't like the fact that back when the Solstice event was happening i grinded all 3 characters to get the legendary sets(like alot of other people did) so I would get the 2.0 versions once Shadowkeep launched only for it to have crappy stats,That was very disappointing but I also don't like the fact that armour 2.0 only has 3 mod slots not including the seasonal slot on some armour and in 1 slot is where the resilience, recovery, mobility, discipline, intellect and strength are as well as all the resistance(elemental, minor, major and boss) mods are.Why couldn't Bungie divide them up into 2 or 3 slots just for those mods(resilience, recovery, mobility in slot, intellect, discipline, strength in another and the resistance mods could have gone into a third slot) and still have 2 slots for the other mods so we would have 5 slots in total so we could really build our "ultimate killing machine"(I think that's what Bungie said in a vidoc).

            • I was talking about this with my clan the other day. 54 points is such a big number to ignore. So much waste and for what? Bungie should just make their stat points increment by 10. Better yet, just make things easier and make each block 1 point, ergo 1 to 5, no in-between numbers. My biggest disappointment is really how this new Armor 2.0 system was implemented. I thought that we would have more control over how we can spec out each armor piece. Just imagine being able to increase your armor's mobility or intellect, or what ever stat you want to increase, by doing specific activities? How about bringing back motes of light so that we can grind for that and apply it to the armor stat we want to pad? To prevent any piece to be OP, there would be max levels for each stat. Armor pieces dropping random stats should be a thing of the past. RNG has been abused in this game and it's not making things any better. Give the players more customization options. More choice. More control over their loadouts.

              • For me the bigest issue with 2.0 is the awful addition of affinities. In reality I end up having about 9 of each armor for different activities with various rolls etc and it's just a horrible mess. The most restrictive system which was sold under the pretence of being the exact opposite.

                • They can bring back the stats management too but in 2.0 version It could be a 2:1 stats move (10 max so you could get a 5 point to redistribute to fill stats that didnt hit the critical point for the next bonus) or as mention in a post make stats bonus incrementals at every points not every 10

                    • The only benefit I got with Armor 2.0 was more vault space after I dismantled everything lol, why certain armor sets that I unlocked already aren’t available to me as ornaments is beyond comprehension, as is why certain mods can only be applied with the corresponding element is dumb and the random stat rolls suck as well, it’s stupid all around, has potential but needs to be fixed this isn’t Space X science come on now!

                    • Armour 2.0 could have been great if it wasn’t for certain individuals within bungie that seems hellbent on destroying the game by focusing on endgame content and competitive play. Maybe if bungie went back to the old formula of what made the game great ones

                        • Good post, but as good posts don't get attention from Bungie, this will not. The fact that i don't have my armor masterworked at the end of this season after i played every day, after i bought the season pass, is absolutely insane. I can't believe with so much content you can't afford to masterwork anything... Bungie a sugestion, why don't you change the masterwork of weapons to be like the armor, to be more miserable? I play PVP every day, every Iron Banner, i was there, trying my butt for what? Some weak weapons, that you reskinned over and over again, to armor that does not drop with high stats? Why dafuq all the talk is about PVE and not about PVP too? I DON'T CARE ABOUT SAINT 14! I hope you( Bungie) will get burned by the community for this way of deception!

                        • I dunno I’ve found it to be good chasing stats on gear. I’ve not got a perfect build, but a solid one that can still improve. My only worry is if it’s going to be a redundant set because of not having the new seasons mod slot, but would still be good for pvp and raids which is what I want it for really. I would agree exotic armour should be dropping stats at least 60 though.

                          • Why can't they just do pages of mods like they do on weapons and just drop the affinity system. If they keep it like this. They better increase vault size. As I need to have lots different pieces along with pieces from different seasons for certain other mods. Way too mods needing specific affinity and/or season to apply it.

                            • I still use old armour cause I can’t be bothered to mess with individual elements and mods on “newer” armour. Feels more restrictive and stupid to me me. Almost to the point where my old armour has more meaning.

                              • I agree armor should have a higher chance at dropping with stats around 55-65. It’s pretty ridiculous 99.9999% of legendaries drop sub 54. Elemental affinity is annoying because carrying 3+ sets of armor (stat builds + right element). Also cost to masterwork or at least sources for MW materials needs to be addressed. But I feel like you are overreacting with your post and how bad it is. Once you do masterwork your armor they get a stat boost and you have plenty of room to slot whatever mods you want making it possible to have some really great builds.

                              • Armor 2.0 needs the stat numbers from D1, and the adjustments for Mobility, Armor, and Recovery need to be put back in the skill trees. Masterwork costs are ridiculous and need to be cut by 90%. This isn't -blam!-ing WoW or Diablo. It's not worth the effort or cost to masterwork anything.

If you don’t like playing a half-baked, unfinished game, you have to wait until the end of a content year to get a finished and polished product. It’s a pretty shitty way to build a game, but that’s what live services means. Pay us full price, buy from our store, and we will finish building and updating everything you already paid for by the time we’re ready to sell you something new and unfinished again.
