Need advice for running Destiny 2 safely on PC

Hello all, So I've been browsing the forums and every now and then, I see a horror story about someone getting banned for running an auto clicker, or running minesweeper, or having malware on their computer, or running a program that gets picked up as a cheat but really isn't, or a sob story about getting banned for "no reason". As obvious as this post's answer(s) may seem, I intend to keep my computer free of as much user-installed executable software as possible. I am convinced however that these actions may not be enough. My question concerns what steps should I take to ensure I do not get banned while running Destiny 2 on PC? Should I use something like Sandboxie and run Destiny 2 in an isolated environment for absolute certainty nothing will trigger a false positive? Let me know what you think.

  •
We do not ban players for simply having cheat tools installed, but do ban for running them while playing Destiny 2. We do not differentiate between cheat tools for Destiny 2 and cheat tools for other games because it would be easy to avoid a ban by making a Destiny 2 cheat tool that pretends to be a cheat tool for another game. Make sure you turn all cheat tools off before running Destiny 2 and you won’t have to worry about bans.
(source) The key is making sure that when you are playing d2, make sure other apps for other games are completely shut down. Most of the posts you see from people claiming running a program that is not "really" a cheat are exaggerations as bans are verified manually before being placed so there is little chance of something like minesweeper causing a ban unless it went rouge and tried to interact directly with d2.

  • I have many background apps running (including ilok for DRM and a few others) and Bungie has not banned me for cheat software once since Season 3 when I switched from PS4. I personally don't believe the majority of the sob stories I hear about "unfair bans." You shouldn't either. Those programs have a very specific way of behaving that most applications don't do. Like Minesweeper.

    • No, just make sure you don't have any other software running when you go to play destiny. being concerned is fine. i wouldn't want to have my account banned, but its a little excessive to run a sandbox environment for it. My advice if you're worried? Do a reboot before you launch the game.
