To the people complaining about the Adept Raid Weapons, Why?

I guess I'm just dense because I don't really understand why the new adept weapons are such a bad thing? We're getting some of our most favored weapons back from the abyss that is Year One but for some reason the new system being used to give us back our elemental primaries is being hated on by a lot of people on Bnet. I don't understand, ever since Year Two began people have been wanting a solar and void companion to the Zhalo Supercell but now all of a sudden it's a bad thing that we're getting just that and more. I'm not trying to be harsh and criticize people for this, so if I come off that way I'm sorry. I just want to know why people are hating on this so much. Edit: Grammar and Spelling(I rushed this a little) Edit 2: Leaping Leopards Batman I didn't expect this to take off. Edit 3: I've been reading through all of your posts and I seem to have an understanding of it now. It seems that people are just genuinely upset that they can't run their old generic loadout from Year 1 ex: Fatebringer, Black Hammer and Gjally. I can see why that is disappointing but I also see the potential for new loadouts to be crafted from this. Fatebringer is still getting a legendary varient so it will still be one of the better weapons for VoG, the same rule applies to VoC.

  • Could it also be because they are locking elemental primary weapons, originally dropped as legendaries, behind raid challenges? They are REALLLLY trying to keep people playing...nay, grinding this game. I watched the live stream and it in no way made me want to come back for this "event". The hosts were dry, the content dry. Enjoy it Guardians. I'll see you in D2.
Maybe. 😕
• literally all Bungie had to do was make every legendary primary have a random element. That alone would have solved the problem. Removing the was supposed to make your primary weapon of choice have more variety. I have used maybe 3 max since they removed them, thats down from 6 or 7.

    • Here is something that I think everyone needs to realize: Often times the loud minority is heard and recognized as what everyone feels. The people that make up that loud bunch are often different people depending on the discussion. It somewhat bothers me when people say "you ALL complained when... and now you are ALL complaining again". I think that's kind of a falacy because you don't know that the SAME people that were complaining before are the SAME people complaining now. Just remember, there are LOTS of players who play destiny each day and are generally happy and don't feel the need to come to the forums. The people that DO come the forums generally do so because they feel like they have a strong opinion that needs to be heard. People have different opinions (duh), so there is always going to be a group of people complaining. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's important to recognize that you can please ALL off the people ALL of the time. I think that the point it gets toxic though is when people forget this and the forum becomes an unwelcome place for people to have an honest opinion.

It's also 16 more items to store with no increase for vault space. They are not a direct no-downside replacement for their earlier counterparts as I would've hoped.

Bosscuts, If you see this in the mass of comments I will attempt to explain, at least from me and my group of friend's perspective. This post, not coincidentally, will also be the last I ever make about the game on here or reddit. I do not suggest that I speak for anybody but myself and friends, so please, just understand how one person or group of adult, reasonable people feel about this information that has come to light today. From my perspective, Destiny is unlike any other shooter that exists or existed. Unlike a Diablo-esque loot-based game, where you chase loot, but, in the end, the loot is just pixels on a screen, you actually "feel" the effects of the gun in Destiny. You can argue then that the guns are Destiny. Our characters are simply vessels for the guns that give us the feel of the game. We, therefore, as players of the game, grow attached to these weapons, especially when we spend hours and hours grinding for them. That feeling of joy when Fatebringer first dropped or Vex or Gally still lives with us, especially players who have been around since the Alpha and Beta. Because of the, undeniably, great gunplay in the game, many people forgave Bungie for including a poor, nonsensical story, and gave them much leeway in the early part of the games release because they were treading into a new game genre. It is still my belief that the greatest time I ever had playing a video game with my friends was during the Vault and Crota raids, and, naturally, I, therefore, associate that great time not with my character, but with the guns of the day. My classic loadout was: Fatebringer Black Hammer Gally, Like so many others. My friends had their own layouts as well. One liked scouts, so Vision, another never got Gally to drop until the week before the nerf, so he used Icebreaker. Then they took our guns away... I know some others on here have no empathy for people like me and my friends, but that does not concern me. I am simply answering your question explaining my personal perspective. In our minds, Bungie betrayed us. Another poster in this thread included the link for the statement that they never would make our weapons obsolete. Naturally, he is immediately told how he is wrong. Of course, that is an example of the responding poster's lack of empathy for others. Regardless, of how other people feel, OUR opinion was one of betrayal and we stopped playing the game through the Skolas era and picked the game back up briefly during the Taken King, but nothing was the same. Our trust was betrayed, and we looked at Bungie now in a leery way. With the release of Rise of Iron, although my friends vowed to not purchase the expansion, I felt the urge one, last time and convinced them to join me. We played, we had fun, but nothing was the same. With the news that Gally was coming back we were happy, and had fun with the quest, of course, this joy was not complete because hanging over it like a shroud, was the fact that we believed it never should have left and was, merely, a marketing tool for Bungie to get players like us to purchase the expansion. We did Nightfalls with burns and couldn't use Vision and Fatebringer, though they sat in our vaults. Three copies of each, in case Bungie, as we believed, "maybe would come to their senses" and allow infusion. What slapped us in the face, of course, was that we could use Zhalo for arc burn. Only Zhalo... The final straw before today for us was the wonderful announcement that Icebreaker would return. We were happy, until they announced it wouldn't be a quest or infusion, but instead a random drop. If you play Destiny a lot you know how many times you have done the different Nightfall strikes. You can imagine that the prospect of grinding the same strikes we completed countless times for a weapon we had three copies of in our vaults did not appeal to us. Instead it infuriated us, but alas, I convinced my friends one last time to relive the Destiny heydays and we dusted off the game again, even completing Wrath with our old raid group for the first and last time. Once the last of us got Icebreaker to drop we all agreed that we had had enough. We no longer trusted Bungie as developers, we agreed that there really are far better games out there, and we realized what we always knew to be true, that we were simply grasping for straws that Bungie would ever give us back those weapons that made us fall in love with the game in the first place. Which takes us to this present moment... Here I am, responding to you now in my last post and the night I officially delete the game and make 60gbs of free, much needed, hard drive space on my PS4. I opened up Reddit today to see what the final information was on my beloved guns returning and you now know what I found. I find that not only can't I infuse the guns in my vault, but I can't even have an arc Fatebringer anymore and Black Hammer is non-existent even when none of this matters when the game will end in a few months. There was no feeling of betrayal, there was no feeling of sadness, just a feeling of confirmation of expectations. I did learn you could buy a t-shirt though! So, to end this response to you, allow me to say that yes, I loved this game. Allow me to also say--though I know you understand because you play it too--there is something special about this game. Sadly, tonight was the last opportunity I gave Bungie to win my trust back and they failed and lost a customer for the sequel. Thank you for allowing me to respond to your question and I wish you and the rest of the millions of guardians the best in the great universe that they have created. Rckningday Day One/BetaPlayer and proud owner of three Fatebringers

        • I'm honestly fine with it. However, I do think it kind of lowers the status of exotics even more than it was already. Like, do Zhouli's bane and Anguish of Drystan really need to be exotic? They are complete garbage anyways. Even even guns like Atheon's epilogue and Oversoul Edict (especially after the nerf) are fun to use, but they are nowhere near good enough to warrant an exotic slot. But eh, the way I see it is I'll only ever use the exotic versions for nightfalls with burns and occasionally heroic strikes. In raids, I'll just use the legendary ones and an exotic heavy most likely. Also, will all these new exotics have grimoire? Because I think that would actually be pretty cool.

I'm not mad that they did it this way, in fact, I think it's great they're coming back at least. I'm not hard to please. I swear it. I'm just disappointed that the game, in general, feels very different from year 1. The challenges to pve were more intense and more involved, and the gear and abilities were balanced to a point we could take on those challenges. Now? The game's gear and abilities have been nerfed so much Bungie had to downgrade the challenges of the pve content. All this in order to balance? That means the very quality of pve content has gone down, in order to have balance elsewhere in the game. Pvp and Trials. Why should one side of this game dictate the other? Neither side should. It needs balance separation in D2 or they need to figure something else out. Now there is a huge difference between challenging, and annoying or frustrating. If some people come along and don't realize this already, then I won't be able to explain it to them. No one wants to play an annoying or frustrating game. It very well can be considered subjective by all means. You have to think about it from a year 1 players evolution in this game to understand the difference. If you are a newer player you just won't get it. In year 3 things feel, for me personally, a little more frustrating or annoying, as opposed to challenging. That is because I have memories of an entirely different game. You can't erase memories. The facts are Year 1 players have had an entirely different experience than others that haven't been around to even know what they were missing. That is where my disappointments lie with this game. We get it. You came in later and you love this game, but you have no idea the game that it was and what it could have been. Year 3 is a nightmare to me personally. I still play because I must like it to some degree, but when I think about what Destiny could have been, I am very sad about it.

        • This is why. It's not just complaining. It's stupid, pointless decision making by Bungie that by itself isn't harmful but on top of all the other stupid crap they do (mediocre vault space, making you go to menu to use synth and switch weapons, etc) adds up to a pile of crap. Here's why the old raid weapons as exotics is stupid. 1) There's nothing cool about it. There's nothing cool about exotics. Year 1 they were rare. Now exotics get deleted and are just infusion mats. It's just a different color...yellow. 2) More importantly it actually creates roadblocks to weapon choices. Want to use your cool new Vision of confluence, Word of Crota, etc. raid weapon and an exotic sword at the same time, or Gjallarhorn? Nope, that's 2 exotics. Want to relive the old days, fighting Crota with Fang of Ir'Yut and Gjallarhorn? Nope that's 2 exotic slots now. Always wanted to do a Fatebringer/arc sword combo on a arc burn nightfall? Can't. I mean, I want to be a fly on the wall at that meeting. Bungie Dev: "I got it, what if we made the new raid weapons exotics, all the 13 year olds will think they are even more special". Bungie Dev2: "ooh and also what if we just make them like obtainable in a weekly rotation, since you know Destiny will only be relevant for a few more months anyway".

            • I was thinking about this more last night, and I think the crux of the problem of primaries, rather weapons in general is essentially each one has a place on a spectrum of how effective they can be across a variety of criteria and situations. There's a fine line somewhere in the middle between under- or over-powered. General usefulness vs specific usefulness. Some will naturally end up higher on the overall spectrum than others and that's what we, the players, want the most. We CRAVE overwhelming power when we don't have it and we ignore everything else. What Bungie did right was introduce elemental weapons. What they did wrong was how they did it and how they tried to correct their mistakes. What they should have done was one of two things: A) All weapons by default be kinetic and players can obtain items they can use to infuse elements into them. It makes every weapon viable and balancing easier when only the perks and stats are what anyone has to worry about. You get to pick 3 of the same weapon with different elements or any kind of weapon with all the same elements or different ones. Flexibility of choice. You could even apply this to exotics, so we don't end up with things like most heavies being Solar. B) Provide a benefit to using kinetic weapons equal to using elemental ones. Elements posed a benefit based on burn modifiers and enemies with shields. That makes kinetic undesirable. So to counter that, you give kinetic weapons an INTRINSIC random perk, such as "Higher impact against shielded enemies", or "More damage against non-shielded enemies", or "Deals extra damage against Hive" so that users don't feel like they have to have elements and also want to have multiple kinetic weapons for different situations. Bungie attempted something like this with the HoW weapons, but shit like "More damage against Shanks" was too granular and non-intrinsice. The Iron Lord Artifacts took a step in the right direction, but those aren't weapons.

            • Dont have a problem with the weapons beind exotics. But I do have a problem with his them being a challenge mode reward. I can't get a group that I can trust together to finish challenge mode because I use lfg or the 100. If anyone has used lfg or the 100 you know that you can't get a reliable group together every week using those sites.

            • Even though I'm an beta player and have all of these nostalgic memories of year one its like i am happy year one stuffs back and yes its kinda sad that the elemental primaries aren't legendary, but this is probably for the best. Personally I think what most people are over looking is that this is probably either a snap shot of how the will work in D2 or a test run and all their bitching and complaining could cause either a quick modification to remove this feature or in turn stop them from adding it all together.

            • Somebody call the wambulance!!! I loved my Fatebringer & Vision in year one. There coming back, cool, I want them without & with burns. End of the day ill change my loadout to suit what im doing. Sometimes just for fun I'll use different weapons to everyone else & see how much damage I can clock up on say Aksis. As long as im not letting the team down no one cares. I tried Fatebringer in WOTM, it wasnt doing enough damage to adds so I had to change it right away lol. End of the day, collect what you want, use what you want & just go have fun with different combinations. D2 could be six months away, save your moaning for the release of that you salty guardians!

                1. They don't merit the slot. In any activity why use an exotic primary whose only purpose is elemental damage? The only answer is burn. And given that heavies are far superior in the aspect of damage. 2. Kinetic legendaries from raids are trash. The stats are awful. The perks are meh at best on all but like 2 of them. 3. The whole purpose of legendaries with elemental damage was the OP loadout we had in year 1. Without that all nostalgia is gone and you can't really become legend. Edit: 4. They are time gated and it's rng if you even get them. 3 chances a week at one or two of the weapons per raid. It's Kings fall all over again.

Would expect some people to change their minds after they try it especially with explosive rounds too..... I'm gonna be keeping my yr 1 legendary fatebringer and vision for nostalgia.
