Players are OP, not weapons and classes.

But Bungie can't nerf you.

  • While I agree with a lot of your post it I cant agree here. With that logic we would still be under the reign of the OF Vex Mythoclast (I had one before it got nerfed and could understand while people left the lobby) I would also like to know why everybody in a 3v3 playlist is rocking TLW with a sniper... Lifestyle choice? I also dont like the word OP. I think the rise of TLW was largely caused due to the shotgun nerf. Since you now have to basically touch your oponent he will shoot you dont before you get in close if he is aware of you and you dont come in at an odd angle. I believe balancing is an ongoing process. Problem is it takes Bungie too long to implement new changes. I also would like them to do better testing before the release of a patch.

    • In most cases sure. If you see everyone flocking to the same loadouts/abilities/classes...Different story. There will be a reason that is happening and it isn't the players abilities. Which was happening for a good year or so. You had the oddball guns here and there, but you always saw the flavor of the day. Suros, Thorn. Vex, etc. I've never seen problems like this in other shooters. I have seen problems like this in WoW and other hotbar MMOs that mix PvP and PvE though.

Sooooo a weapon can't be overpowered??? I mean feel free to start off with a personal attack and move on to how stupid I am for not understanding your post but it seems pretty clear(I'm referencing our last engagement). Let me get this EXTREMELY straight, Bungie completely fails at almost everything associated with this game(well documented by yourself) but completely NAILS weapon balancing in a game that features hundreds of weapons(a completely new endeavor in the FPS market)??? So let's say that the launch meta was some amazing aspect of the game that Bungie got RIGHT because it wasn't balanced(as proposed by your self not long ago). Which would imply that those who want some form of balance, should just "deal with it", and that's a whole lot more accurate of a statement than "weapons aren't OP". "Players are OP, Deal with it" is how it should read. I agree with you, players with skill are very powerful. Some of them are powerful enough to beat you with blue weapons. In fact I have personally been beaten by a team with blue weapons in trials(sniper rifles). An overpowered weapon will not make a bad player good, but it will make a good player God like. How would it not if in fact, in every category said powerful weapon is better than a less powerful weapon??? There are different types of players who have different styles of play. One really good player utilizing an even slightly overpowered weapon can create a scenario where said weapon is the only logical option(depending on the meta style of play). Is this what type of one-dimensional multiplayer mode that we really want?

    • Because two players of equal skill shooting each other at the same time the last word will lose to an auto rifle I predict extremely rarely.

      • Depends on how you view it. There are some extremely good players out there. There are also bad and mediocre ones. Then you have those who have access to software and knowledge that gives their guardians godIike abilities, a special kind of asshole. So unless you fall into the first category, which in all honesty is rarer than most people realise, players being more OP than weapons is an incorrect statement. Now I fit in with the majority of players, mediocre. Yesterday an event occurred which is example of the issues in the current meta. At a roughly medium range which is the supposed optimum range of pulse rifles, I was out gunned by someone using MIDA. Just to clarify, scout rifles are supposed to optimise at long range, yet as I ploughed 3 bursts into this guys head, he was still able to land all 4 killing headshots and still have a smidgeon of health left allowing him to win this particular gun fight, where statistically I should have the advantage using Nerwins Mercy. At best this should have been a draw. Past metas, such as Thorn and shotgun load outs also showed where an impossible advantage is gained. Thorn should have been a close quarters HC, yet it was able to land killing shots from scout rifle range. To help avoid those pesky close quarter aiming issues, you switched to a shotgun. In short, if a weapon gives the player an advantage, it will be used. Suros Regime showed it, Thorn showed it and now MIDA is showing signs of it. Overpowered is a misnomer. No weapon is overpowered but if it has an advantage, then it is exploited to the max.

        • Yep. But they aren't smart enough to figure that out. One kill by whatever weapon or that super and it's too op and needs a nerf. It's a shame

Yes and no. Yes...in the hands of really skilled player, ANY weapon can be made to LOOK overpowered. But that appearance quickly goes away when you scratch below the surface. Because you realize that very few people can pull that level of performance out of the weapons. No.....in two parts. The Last Word is out of balance right now...but not because its OP. Its because Bungie is trying to force this weapon system that is NOTHING like the weapon system of Halo to produce Haloesque gun play and "equal" weapon usage....and it will NEVER happen. So the weapon appears to be OP because ARs and shotguns have been rendered underpowered. Return ARs to their pre-patch 1.1.1 base damage...and stop trying to turn shotguns into melee weapons...and TLW "problem" will go away. But you do have weapons that are genuinely overpowered. OG Suros Regime, Vex Mythoclast and Pocket Infinity were not only OP they were straight-up BROKEN. I remember the Datto video where I first heared about the Mythoclast. I just heard the audio the first time and dismissed his claim that the weapon was broken. The second time I actually got to see the in-game footage of someone using and just how FAST it killed in comparison to EVERY other weapon in the game at the time..... ...and I just started laughing hysterically. A "Who the -blam!- Thought This thing Was A Good Idea?" kind of laugh. OG Vex Mythoclast was so broken that whole lobbies would rage quit simply because there was no standing up to it. Because nothing else could kill fast enough because you were basically letting someone run around the Crucible with an LMG as their primary weapon.

          • Most people finally realizing that the balancing issue is more to balance the player base and not the game. They do not want a truly fair, balanced PVP. They want 50/50 win loss ratios no matter how good or bad you are. They want noobs in crucible to still feel awesome. They want rotating meta weapons so nobody can be a master too long. It's flipping nonsense.

            • Don't jinx it... they'll introduce handicaps on players above a 1.5 k/d in the interest of maintaining "balance". ;)

Looking at the replies, a lot of them dont get it do they? I am an average pvp player, even when i used a thorn prepatch, a better player would still kick the shit out of me, with whatever, he is using. He is just better then me thats all there is to it. It is all about extending playing time , nothing more nothing less. OP weapon nerfing, what bs, i want op weapons , i want to kick the shit out of Vex,Fallen,Hive,Cabal and Taken, thats fun , but we all know what Bungie thinks on that do we. Who cares if i could BlackHammer an Ogre, you felt like, -blam!- you Ogre, and thats gone now, you dont feel that anymore. At least i dont. The game lost the most importent feeling , you feeling powerfull, and on top of that ,it lost the fun part with it. What a shame, shame on you Bungie. Cheers

                  • Wrong again, as usual Let's say ur a garbage player (which isnt far from the truth) U have a gun that kills in one shot at any range to any part of the body and the blast radius of a launcher You will still win against the best player in the world using a green auto rifle (assuming u can aim in their general direction and pull the trigger) That gun is clearly op, nothing in destiny is this extreme but everything is somewhere on the not op--> op line U cant just pretend every gun is about the same and the only factor is skill level To write that guns arent op as if its not possible is just ignorant and clearly wrong If the gun is op enough then no amount of player ability can compensate This was most clearly shown in the thorn/last word era which YOU LOST btw i called for nerfs along with every sensible player and of course we won cuz it was so blatant that bungie should all be fired for letting that fiasco happen in the 1st place Muted
