House of Wolves had more content than any of the expansions including taken king.
You felt rewarded when you got a weapon because you knew you could get the roll you wanted.
The raid gear was worth grinding the raids for.
All content from vanilla to dark below was also a viable option.
The strike rotations included every strike and had some great guns in them.
Exotics didn't come pouring in through a little coin and the bounties were difficult enough to make you feel that you earned them.
Although the weapon meta was bad it wasn't nearly as bad as this mess we have now.
Localized matchmaking meant you almost never had red bars on your team.
Xur sold 5 heavy packs, instead of 3.
No time gated quests that just artificially increased the life of the game by weeks. (Except elder cipher and some tdb quests)
Overall you felt more rewarded. You knew once you got an etheric light the items light would be max and you didn't have to rely on rng. You had 3 sets of raid armor all max level. Your weapons were tailored to you because you didn't have to rely on rng for a good roll (because you were able to reroll it to get what you wanted) after you already waited through rng to get the thing.
I miss house of wolves and the drive to play because "they surely won't mess up all this progress with taken king! They're going in the right direction"
.... thanks for proving us all wrong again Actibungie
Edit: Don't get me started on Nightfalls.... I forgot they were even a thing because of how badly they're implemented now. Back then you got your weekly exp buff and good rewards... it was either Strange coins, a legendary engram/weapon or an exotic. Now you get a ghost shell.
Edit 2: To everyone who thinks I'm talking solely about poe or things added solely in HoW please consider that when I typed this I meant the state of destiny in its whole was at its peak during the time of HoW. I know it didn't have a raid and that PoE rewards were a joke. I was there too. Overall the systems in place and the rewards for every other activity were on point and just a lot better implemented.

3 RepliesThe HOW raid is the finest I've seen.
-
Lol Wut ?
-
You certainly knew what you were getting in HoW. Less rng was better for sure. And I could use all my favorite weapons and gear. No raid sucked, but the gear gaining/improvement system was far better.
-
Was it really? I actually quit destiny back then. Rng -blam!-ed me over completely and barely had etheric light to upgrade my shit. PoE was boring as hell couldn't flawless trials cause wasn't a decent pvper back then. -blam!-in thorn and last word plagued the crucible anyway. But at the end of the day that's my opinion and my experience with it.
-
Couldn't have said it any better myself. All of it. You could grind VoG for a weapon to help you through PoE or grind CE for a weapon to wreck in Crucible. The good old days when you could get weapons that actually helped in PVE.

Edited by Offtopickle: 1/6/2016 3:31:34 AMWell in HoW people were doing raids and trials for fun..
It's my opinion.. now shut up!
1 ReplyHouse of wolves didnt have a raid just the shit prison of elders which was boring after a week and etheric light was stupid
-
Truth. Nothing feels more badass than storming a Fallen stronghold to take out Skolas, the Silent Fang, or whatever mercenary may be inside. Plus PoE was pretty great.
-
Also a cool thing back then, you could get Legendaries from TDB and Vanilla if you did certain Vanguard strikes and got lucky decrypting a blue engram. It was tedious but you had more variety.
-
Had a gjallarhorn and every exotic but the current Destiny is my favorite imo
-
2 RepliesThis debate is simple: Had your gjallihorn before HoW? You hate it Didn't have a gjallihorn? You loved it
-
Wrong.
-
Ah nostalgia... has such a way of painting the past in the best possible light. Prison of elders was flat stupid. Raid was short. You couldnt pvp without one of the Holy trinity. There were dozens of currencies. The leveling system for weapons and armor was horrible. HoW was mostly a bust.
-
Yes, yes it was

8 RepliesThat taniks strike was obviously the best

1 ReplyThey improved the story by a million levels in TTK admit it.

6 RepliesThis entire thread is clearly a troll. You never felt rewarded for getting a weapon when every single weapon you got could be rolled into the most powerful version. I never got stoked about getting a new weapon because it was always Vision of Confluence/Fatebringer, Black Hammer/Felwinters Lie with Hammer Forged/Rifled Barrel and Shot package/Rangefinder, and Gjallarhorn/Tomorrows Answer. There was legit NO REASON to even bother playing Prison of Elders unless you REALLY wanted to hit level 34 immediately. If you didn't, you had 4 months to hit level 34 with items that people had literally hundreds of by Taken King. The Prison of Elders was fun, the level 28 version was a neat idea with shit weapon rewards. Literally all of the weapons from Prison of Elders chests in level 28 were just reskinned copies of weapons you already had god rolls on EXCEPT for Her Benevolence which was the ONLY shining example of a decent Sniper in the House of Wolves. Her Hand was the hand cannon, literally a Red Hand IX clone. The rocket launcher, the Dream Waker was shit and was a carbon copy of the Ash Factory, which you could get from the Crucible (fairly commonly as well) the Scout Rifle was a Vision of Confluence style scout but why use it over... well, Vision of Confluence or even Fang of Ir Yut... The Fusion Rifle was Plug One.1, the Shotgun was Felwinter's Lie with less range, the Pulse Rifle was your typical 55 Allfate except pink.. and the Auto Rifle was the Matrix except with less rounds in the mag. And, finally, the heavy machine gun, Wolves Bane, was just Jolder's Hammer except you didn't have a god roll for it and you already had a god roll for Jolder's. No point. The Prison of Elders exotic weapons were great, I highly enjoyed playing Skolas for a chance at getting the cypher to get both QBB and LoW. In fact, I don't even have Dreg's Promise yet, still. Im still hunting for that one. The armors where okay, the Titan Helmet looked goofy but fun and the Hunter gauntlets looked sick but those are the only real neat armor pieces that I can even remember. There were still different strike rotations and, yes, all of them have different strikes, but none of them gave specific loot. It was mostly a crap shoot because like, a lot of the time, most of you were hunting for Hopscotch Pilgrim or Dry Rot... after that most players were done with strikes. You can still play those strikes, by the way, in the legacy vanguard playlist. it's a level 20 playlist, but with the way that damage is scaled throughout the game, it's the same difficulty as a level 36 strike playlist, or even the heroic playlist. They fixed three of coins, which is fine with me. But to be fair their existence is justified by the fact that Nightfalls dont just pour in exotics anymore, which is kind of sucky but fine fine... Also, before you try to argue, the Nightfall buff was not taken away. They actually told everybody that they were removing the buff from the Nightfalls but just replacing it with a experience and reputation bonus equal to it automatically implemented into the game. Technically, as I type, you're all gaining 10% more experience and reputation at all times. By the Way, Xur selling 5 ammo packs instead of 3 is a lame point to make, because, honestly, the only time we actually ever needed an influx of Heavy Ammo was with Hard Mode Crotas End... so... that's not even an issue anymore. Final part: Realistically you could hit level 34 within 30 minutes of the House of Wolves. For the average good Destiny player, you got everything you wanted within the first week of the House of Wolves dropping and you were set for the rest of the expansion. The expansion was not rewarding in every way when you can just grab any weapon and roll it into the most OP version in 10 minutes. before anybody else starts on the Motes of Light "issue" btw, the majority of us weren't Christmas Noobs. The Majority of us had 1500+ motes of light to spend and next to 4000 weapon parts to use on nonsense. And before you talk more about exotics, lets be clear, the majority of the new House of Wolves exotics were helmets. Xur sold helmet engrams on the first week and practically everybody got all of the exotics on the very first Friday of the DLC. Don't bull shit me. The House of Wolves, as a whole, was awesome. But it was NOT rewarding in any way when you can just ascend the most powerful gear from vanilla into HoW's levels of power and no other weapons could ever compete.

2 RepliesI say pre dark below was the best

Yep. Everything mattered/ gave good stuff

10 RepliesYou sir, are an idiot. I have been playing destiny since day 1 and know that HoW sucked. PoE was fun, but that's about it. HoW barely had any new content, and was not satisfying. I was hoping for a new exciting raid to play with friends. Nope just PoE.
-
5 Replies??? How had no raid...
-
I agree because of the weapon stand points every gun could be 365 allowing the most variety at the time, which is why if they implemented acrual weapon balances like now in how it would be the best dlc
-
Agree

3 RepliesI hated Prison of Elders. It was cool for the first few completions, then it got super boring. Kings fall is a million times better. I also like the story and missions on kings fall over house of wolves. Most of house of wolves missions were just old missions played backwards. Also there were less new exotics, armor and weapons in house of wolves than taken King. Taken King had like 10 times the content of house of wolves

2 RepliesNightfalls back then? I remember shards. Shards. And more shards. BTW, got a 303 ghost for my 319 hunter today!
