House of Wolves was the peak of Destiny.

House of Wolves had more content than any of the expansions including taken king. You felt rewarded when you got a weapon because you knew you could get the roll you wanted. The raid gear was worth grinding the raids for. All content from vanilla to dark below was also a viable option. The strike rotations included every strike and had some great guns in them. Exotics didn't come pouring in through a little coin and the bounties were difficult enough to make you feel that you earned them. Although the weapon meta was bad it wasn't nearly as bad as this mess we have now. Localized matchmaking meant you almost never had red bars on your team. Xur sold 5 heavy packs, instead of 3. No time gated quests that just artificially increased the life of the game by weeks. (Except elder cipher and some tdb quests) Overall you felt more rewarded. You knew once you got an etheric light the items light would be max and you didn't have to rely on rng. You had 3 sets of raid armor all max level. Your weapons were tailored to you because you didn't have to rely on rng for a good roll (because you were able to reroll it to get what you wanted) after you already waited through rng to get the thing. I miss house of wolves and the drive to play because "they surely won't mess up all this progress with taken king! They're going in the right direction" .... thanks for proving us all wrong again Actibungie Edit: Don't get me started on Nightfalls.... I forgot they were even a thing because of how badly they're implemented now. Back then you got your weekly exp buff and good rewards... it was either Strange coins, a legendary engram/weapon or an exotic. Now you get a ghost shell. Edit 2: To everyone who thinks I'm talking solely about poe or things added solely in HoW please consider that when I typed this I meant the state of destiny in its whole was at its peak during the time of HoW. I know it didn't have a raid and that PoE rewards were a joke. I was there too. Overall the systems in place and the rewards for every other activity were on point and just a lot better implemented.

  • It really was. So many viable weapons and armor options. Didn't approve of the weapons rerolling though. Took the excitement out of random drops.

  • ...and yet it was quite crappy. stop praising house of wolves as an amazing Destiny era just because it's worse now. Because it wasn't amazing, it was still lack of content, more repetitiveness, etc. It's like comparing rotten apple and rotten pear.

    • Remember when it was: "I'm gonna farm these strikes for days or weeks for a weapon, so I can reroll it and get the roll [b][i][u]I[/u][/i][/b] want and be happy." Now it's: "I'm gonna farm these strikes for months (seriously months on end) just for the chance to get the weapon I want, for the chance that it has the perks I want, the sight I want, and the attributes I want. I'll even resort to farming the NIGHTFALL, the weekly endgame challenge, just to boost the chances of the weapon." If anything should be brought back, it should be rerolling, but it should be more expensive, like 25 weapon parts + 10 Motes of Light + 15 of whatever material is required to upgrade the weapon (Spinmetal, Wormspore, Relic Iron, etc.) = One reroll Also, I feel that Etheric Light should be able to be used on any Year 1 legendary to add the ability to infuse it to Year 2 Values. It would only add more variety. And I don't even mind if Raid weapons aren't able to be infused as they were gamebreaking in Year 1. People are used to and happy with their 1K Yard Stare and Conspiracy Theory, so the ability to infuse with the restriction of Etheric Light would be amazing. Also, to make the old raids relevant, allow Etheric Light to drop from them. Boom, now Old Raids are relevant, Etheric Light has a use, there is tons more variety, and old activities are relevant for that chance at the weapon drop that can now be useful! Not only would this simple change add [b]so[/b] much more variety in player customization, but it would also add [b]MONTHS[/b] of playtime to this game that desperately needs it if no new DLCs will be released until late 2016.

    • I'm still trying to figure out why people think this meta is the worse. Having played since day one and beta, the metas went from autos, to handcannons and fusion rifles, to handcannons and shotguns, handcannons or pulse with shotguns, along with more specials ruling and people having heavy machines forever because of ammo drops on deaths. Now nearly every weapon class is viable. Yes snipers are annoying now but they aren't 100% dominating, especially with the maps being more diverse. Sure ARs could use a tweak here, but i still play fine with them. And lastly, people are exaggerating with mida. Yes it's popular but isn't like how handcannons used to be, to where you almost needed an exotic handcannon to compete. In short, mida isnt popular and OP. End rant.

      • Totally agree with the nightfall. Back then we pioritize doing it weekly in hopes of getting good gears. Now, i barely do nightfalls if not never.

What I wouldn't give to go back to the days when the Wolves would prowl the Cosmodrome... Don't even get me STARTED on these stupid Taken events in Patrol. Events are supposed to bring people together, not drive them out of the zone.

      • HoW was realy good cos it had lot of content, but bad side was that "grind" was too fast, all max lvl chars after 3 days of release, wtf? atleast armors that were obtainable by armor core should been drop lower lvl than max to make it little slower, etheric light was good cos all weapon and armors were relevant

      • Please don't tell me this is the start of the whole "this era of the game was better then this era" thing that MMO's go through. Destiny isn't old enough to warrant that, but just for the record Burning Crusade was the best.

Only one of those was really decent in PvE which was the Bad JuJu. [/b] Although the weapon meta was bad it wasn't nearly as bad as this mess we have now. [b]-Hmm, well let's see there was the classic Two-Shot Thorn, Last Word ADS glitch, Felwinter's Sniper, Final Round High-Impact Snipers, 2-Burst kills with Red Death/Hopscotch Pilgrim, Untamed Blink Shotgun, The Ram, Bolt-Nades that would put you to half shield or worse, Grenade Glitch that filled Golden Gun automatically, and a vast of other OP shenanigans and bugs.[/b] Localized matchmaking meant you almost never had red bars on your team. [b]- Less Chance of Red Bars yes, but there were still plenty of red ping bars in Year 1[/b] Xur sold 5 heavy packs, instead of 3. [b]-He only reduced his quantity due to the fact you can now recycle them for Faction Reputation, if you were smart you would have stocked up before 2.0 dropped.[/b] No time gated quests that just artificially increased the life of the game by weeks. [b]-People complained about the small loot table for Nightfalls and still not getting what they wanted, now we have 2 activities that give us Nightfall tier rewards, totaling up to 6 Nightfall Rewards a week compared to 3.[/b] [/quote]

              Disagree, worst expansion by far. Prison of elders (Scolas) was a joke, that Pilot severter! Yes they finally got some of the Weapon upgrades right but there was nothing to do with them. Old raids were so easy it was a joke. Only good thing was ToO and that in itself drove many lower skilled players away also. We are currently in the best phase of destiny, A fantastic Raid, ToO & a bunch of different viable setups. I just wish they'd balance secondary weapons some more as currently a sniper is almost always your best option (PvP & PvE)
