The current method Bungie uses to "allure" PvE players into PvP is poorly designed.
Quests that dictate the playstyle to complete the PvP portions take already disadvantaged players and steepens the climb. This has not only a negative impact on the player corralled into PvP but also the players there by choice. In a team game you are only as good as your weakest link.
Now let us consider the players who will attempt to shortcut through the PvP experience. Rumble boosting, harmless right? There have been numerous complaints from avid PvP players talking about rumble being impossible to play properly because it's full of boosters. Loot cave in PvP.
All in all while the pve player is inconvenienced in only when dealing with the quest. The daily PvP player is inconvenienced daily.
I understand that PvP is a part of the game and "leaving our comfort zone" is the high school guidance counselor position Bungie has taken. It's just being handled all wrong.
Iron banner was actually a step in the right direction. Allow a player to stick with their play style, or find it, and reward them with items. The reputation gain stands to be reworked.
In closing the current methods deployed by Bungie to increase crucible participation is negatively impacting both sides of the coin.

A new exotic hand cannon quest has been data mined. It involves PvP again and apparently dictates the weapon you use.

1 ReplyEdited by eternal_napalm: 9/28/2015 2:58:27 PMI hate this game's PVP, it's a laggy, shotgun-infested and super spam piece of shit. I need a few more sword kills and would almost have it done if it wasn't for lag; slashing players two or three times and doing no damage, only for them to appear on my right side and shotgun me. And of course, they have a damn red bar. I 100% agree with this post, this game's PVP is shit and it's not played by the vast majority who play this game. So to get their numbers up they force PVP despite it having absolutely nothing to do with the lore. Sometimes insulting the lore of the game. Take swords as an example. It's a simplistic weapon, favored in use by the Hive. The Sword of Crota killed thousands of guardians. Their bones get picked in the hallways on the moon by thrall. What in the hell does the lame-ass Crucible have to do with it? Jack shit lol. Never played such trashy PVP in my life, I'm 29 and have been gaming for 24 years. I'd be done with that stupid bounty even though I hardly play but I need to pray the person I'm attacking has a green bar. To succeed in this shitty PVP, a player needs a red bar. That's it. /rant over

7 RepliesThat said, PvP players shouldn't need to do the PvE side of quests either, or, they shouldn't have to do raids to get max level, right?
-
2 RepliesSame argument since Thorn. I definitely enjoy PvP much more because of the old exotic bounties and Iron Banner. You are not forced. You don't have to get every single weapon in game. If you're bitching about the sword quests, try the Chaperone.
-
To the people saying PvE players aren't forced: I get what you're saying. I really do. But when PvE players get quests as a result of doing PvE activities and the reward is a weapon that is valuable for PvE play (that sword sounds like it was DESIGNED for battling against Taken), why should those quests include PvP components? And especially, why should it include ridiculously difficult PvP components that only encourage people to boost or give up? If PvP players MUST have special snowflake trophies to show off how good they are at PvP, those trophies should be cosmetic items like emblems or items that only give boosts to PvP play. I suspect a lot of the nerf/buff wars are caused by people playing PvP to complete a quest when they wouldn't be there otherwise. And if Bungle insists on "persuading" PvE players into PvP by withholding all the best gear from them when the vast majority of their players are strictly PvE, that doesn't bode well for the future of the game.

18 RepliesAgree with OP. Make exotic quests with forced PVP go away. Its not fun, its not going to make people like PvP or play it more. It has had the exact opposite effect on me and mine. Where we used to jump into PvP every so often to try and knock out some daily bounties or just -blam!- around. Now no one in my play group wants to go in at all because they associate crucible with the 'NOT FUN' they had while attempting these miserable exotic bounties with PvP Reqs.
-
6 Repliesi'm currently doing the sword quest and forced pvp participation isn't right as it is they should make alternate pve routes for the exotic weapon bounties but they just take longer to complete 2-3 days or something (like do 25 heroic strikes everyday for 2-3 days or something) i would put up with that.

9 RepliesIt's funny that PvE players who don't like PvP feel like they are forced in playing PvP. In reality if you are a PvP player who dislikes PvE, you are the one who really is "forced" into playing content you don't enjoy. You don't see the PvP players complain though. Likely because they are used to shooting things that can actually shoot them back. The greatest challenge is overcoming the boredom and not the difficulty of the content. Are there some quests and bounties that require some PvP? Of course. But who said you NEED every single weapon. If you only played PvE you can still progress to the max light level and complete the raids. You may not have every single gun but you can definitely complete all the content (missions, strikes, nightfalls and raids). Personally I hate the PvE except for the raids. I want to play trials though so I need to do a lot of PvE to get there. Is bungie forcing me to play PvE? No. I picked up my control and I decided to grind though PvE so I can play the end game PvP content. If you want EVERY single gun in a PvE and PvP game, do what's required and stop the bitching. Sorry for the rant
to the people complaining about the sword quest. It's mainly a PvE quest. One potion of it is PvP.
2 RepliesExotic quest requirements should be PvP or PvE and you should be able to pick which one you do. Make one take longer than the other depending on if it's a PvE or PvP favoured weapon. Forcing a style of play on someone, whether they're a mostly PvP of PvE player, isn't the right thing to do.

12 RepliesWhat examples can u give that pve players are being corralled into playing pvp? I know of some exotic weapon bounties and basic post master bounties but other than that, i don't see how pve only players are having issues. And as for boosting yes that sucks and people are always going to try and do it as long as there's something to be gained. People are too lazy even to play a -blam!-ing video game, that they paid for no less.
-
5 RepliesWell if you can't do what it takes to earn said exotic then you don't deserve it, I suppose you want Bungie to just hand you the exotic weapon right! Nothing worth having ever comes easy, you have to put in work!
-
1 ReplySo what you are saying is you paid full price to play only part of a game.. Thats legitness..
-
1 ReplyI have literally never heard of rumble boosting until now.
-
3 RepliesI agree with everything you said, but what is this "boosting" people keep talking about?
-
Well said. Poor design choices by Bungie.
-
2 RepliesIts been like this since the launch of destiny, it's really disheartening to see this level of incompetence as far as game development goes. the taking king should really have been the stepping stone to differentiate the two game types, the players have been pleading with them to separate weapon stats and quest lines and now it's more fused than ever.
-
2 RepliesI agree. The problem, as I see it - and posted about the other day - is that the current system promotes the most selfish play style.
-
2 RepliesUnfortunately these bounties have taught me to hate crucible, it's become a job I just hate now not a game.
-
1 ReplyAbsolutely agree. Even if I was capable of improving my PvP game, I simply wouldn't enjoy it. Worse, forcing me to PvP to complete various quests, like the exotic swords, merely punishes anyone unfortunate enough to be teamed with me. At my best, I break even in a match. When I'm focused on a quest goal I might as well be actively helping the opposition win. No one enjoys it when pve only players are forced to pvp. And when it comes to something like the Chaperone, my skills are so poor I have no choice but to game the system to everyone's detriment.
-
10 RepliesBump. I'm all for having quests/bounties for both PvE and PvP players, but they could definitely do a better job of designing them to not promote selfish play. When the most common outcome of a PvP portion of a quest is Rumble boosting, it's a poorly thought out quest.

1 ReplyYour High School Guidence Counselor sentence is faulty for one very big reason. I paid for my game and shouldn't be forced to play something, which is filler to lure the CoD crowd.

6 RepliesAgreed.. the absolute last thing I want to aside from my own matchmaking is play PvP.
