First off let me say that I am an avid Destiny fan, played since release, and will absolutely be playing TTK.
There are a few serious things that are about to go wrong with the release however, in my mind. I feel like throughout the arc of the game so far, there have been a few big blunders that we have all seen coming even before they executed them. Kind of like a car wreck that you see ahead of time but can't do anything about.
Examples of this were making us re-level our exotics in TDB, and the many stupid currency systems that have come and gone (commendations, farming planetary materials, weapon parts, and now we can add etheric light and vanguard / crucible marks to this list). I know there's a lot of senseless whining that comes out on these forums, but a lot of these changes they have made to the game were heavily scrutinized, and most people could see from a mile away that Bungie was making a mistake before they even implemented them.
Speculation incoming!
---------------------
1. Making 1/2 of our exotics worthless, without giving us any notice beforehand, and without letting us have a say in which ones are brought and which are left behind. I get that legendaries are gone. I get that a lot of exotics sucked, and maybe some shouldn't be moving forward with the game, but this is crazy. What's the point of this "gotta collect 'em all" mentality if most of what we painstakingly collect is rendered obsolete without notice? Legendaries are much more disposable than exotics. Exotics are what we really grind for. Beloved weapons like MIDA, Vex, Icebreaker, Lord of Wolves, Gjallarhorn, Ram, etc etc are now rendered obsolete without notice, rhyme or reason. And it seems like most of the exotics they brought forward were the bad ones. This will not go over well. What was even the point of Exotic Patch 2.0 of the weapons you're tweaking are now irrelevant? Bungie may regret making this decision.
2. Making old content get left behind. VoG, CE, PoE are now all irrelevant unless there's something they aren't telling us yet. The problem with this? Lack of content. Our endgame will now consist of 1 patrol, 1 raid, strikes, and crucible. Less content than Vanilla Destiny had. Instead of expanding on what worked and fixing what didn't to give us s massive array of things to do endgame, it looks like it has all been scrapped and we now get 1 endgame activity instead of 4 or 5. I understand that this is commonplace in MMO-type games, but there simply isn't enough content here yet to be scrapping old stuff. If we had like 10 endgame activities and scrapped a few of them for a few more, that's one thing. But we have 4 and are about to get rid of 3 of them with only 1-2 more.
3. Losing the Reforge option at Gunsmith. This was one of the best things they ever did for the game. Their mantra is now, "direct, tangible rewards for time spent" but this goes against that entirely. Now we're at the mercy of RNG again to get a good stat roll instead of being able to farm for mats and craft our perfect roll ourselves.
Things like this show me that Bungie still is kind of clueless when it comes to the MMO world. They but off more than they could chew when Destiny launched. They've come a long ways, but this expansion seems like 2 steps forward, 1.5 steps back.
All subject to change of course, if there's still stuff they haven't revealed yet.

EDIT #1: In relation to Reforging. Reforging itself is no different than questing. You put in the time, you farm the mats, do what's required if you --> you get something good that you want as a guarantee. The problem that a lot of you are saying has much more to do with the broken Crucible (Hammer Forged, Hidden Hand, Range Finder, Shotpackage, etc, etc...) than Reforging itself. Reforging just guarantees that you'll have the best stuff if you put in the time. If the best stuff wasn't as good, people wouldn't be so upset about it. Also, if everyone who puts in the time has the same stuff, Crucible becomes about skill.

1 ReplyWhat BUNGIE knows. Is that 60% of Existing players are going to buy it anyways. New people that go buy the disk, and find out that everyone has spent a year getting the best weapons in game. They will see destiny as overwhelming. As they would need to spend hundreds of hours acquiring old stuff. In the end. The new player wins. I've gotten my $ out of the game. Many fold. I will opt out for the near future.

You lost reforge because they want you to work for a good roll not re-rolling something to get op perks that's why people can always snipe with shotgun or get op perks on hand cannons and such so I can agree with no reforge
-
2 RepliesI agree with everything except re-forging. The ability to roll a god roll within 3 mins is broken. The excitement and curiosity of getting a good RNG roll adds to the play time and anticipation.

2 RepliesNo one saw the 160 attack Gjallarhorn? Not left behind, just not a new version.

1 ReplyI agree dude leaving raid gear and weapons behind is a bad move And will have made half the game/year 1 destiny automatically irrelevant in year 2. Fair enough about all the other legendarys but the raids must stay relevant in year 2 if they are still in the game. It can't be that hard to put an extra difficulty in the current raids and give better rewards possibly year 2 ones... Reforge was good in theory but bad for the game, how many clones of weapons do you see in crucible everyone has a shot packaged matador/party crasher now. It should of been left to iron banner weapons only, it also took the enjoyment of actually getting a well rolled weapon as a drop.

Well said.

None of that is confirmed except maybe the reforming but even that isn't guaranteed

The only real "mistake" that I'm worried about is that Petra is about to become 100% worthless if the wolves are removed same as the blades of Crota were erased. Would be nice if the blades returned in ttk as levelling eris is just a chore at the moment. Maybe new wolves on the other planets or different locations with in planets. The other endgame content is fine as is. But new number levels would be good. Ie vog and Crota level 34-38 drops yr2 stuff. Problem solved. Same for poe.

Edited by Jack Torrance: 8/22/2015 8:35:40 AMBump, but I slightly disagree on the reforging. PvP is spammed with party crashers/ matadors with shot package and rangefinder. PCs and matadors are easy as hell to find too, and anybody with weapon parts and motes can roll a very OP shotgun. That's my 2 cents anyways.

Reforge needed to be removed, so did Gjallarhorn, and old content getting replaced is fine too because every MMO has to move on with content. I disagree with all of these.

Seriously... Agreed

1 Reply1- I like the idea of Year 2 Exotics with extra perks, I look forward to discovering the new changes. I completely understand why people are upset about not being able to ascend other Exotics that they love, but I can understand the reasoning Bungie has for doing so. Not saying I agree or disagree, and I will wait to play TTK before I decide if it was a good idea or not, just saying I get why. I also wouldn't be surprised if, assuming the majority of people are still unhappy after a little time with TTK and using the new weapons, Bungie give us the ability to ascend them later. I also get why we can't ascend Year 1 legendaries; I personally only got Fatebringer a couple of months ago, and for PVE, other than Nightfalls with Solar or Void burn, I use it for almost everything. It's just so awesome. 2- I get why people are concerned about older content becoming irrelevant, but just because nothing has been said yet doesn't mean that Bungie doesn't have any plans in this area. Something I think would be great regarding the VoG and CE raids is a levelled up version of each, with completely new raid weapons and armor to earn, or the current armor and weapons with TTK content level stats. (Although I doubt they would give us the current gear relevelled, especially the weapons, it would defeat the purpose of the old ones being left behind.) 3- While I did enjoy being able to reroll weapons to get the best perks, I definitely noticed that it took away any real enjoyment from receiving RNG drops. One solution I can think of is removing the best perks as reroll options, and make them available only as possible RNG drops. I also think we should be able to not only reroll armor, so we can get perks we want on armor we like the look of, but also infuse Year 1 armor to level it up. I am a definite believer in having as broad a range of armor to choose from as possible, to give us as many individual styles and looks as possible.

content gets left behind all the time 10 year plan bud, k ow how much MORE stuff will change? a lot! leaving old exotics behind I don't mind, I hope they don't really touch armors, but it doesn't matter there's new exotics being added, weapons and armors, that we haven't even tried yet but as far as Gunsmith goes, I agree, I love reforging and I hope they don't take it away - but nobody asked during the stream - everyone was more worried about the damn Vault space

1 ReplyNot gonna read you're narrative. It's gonna be good imo. Shut your mouth and let people do what they want.
-
agree...some of what they are telling us makes it sound like a new game, not an expansion
-
1 Replyagree! only thing keeping me playing is the old raids and grinding for the crux

Edited by spectre1019: 8/22/2015 5:13:16 AMOnly 3 mistakes? You're joking right? Side note: reforging was a silly idea since every single gun (no matter what it was) ended up getting a cookie cutter reforge and the only thing separating any weapon was base stats. Also, some of my best guns were obtained through random drops and funny enough they ended up having the best set of perks. Never got reforged.

1: Cutting Content 2: Cutting More Content. 3: Cutting Even More Content

13 RepliesEdited by Blue: 8/22/2015 4:26:22 AMI regret playing this game for countless hours to get all the exotics in the game only to have 1/2 of them be rendered useless. I regret all the bounties, weeklies, and nightfalls I've done to level them up. You know what I don't regret though? Not pre-ordering TTK until knowing what all they were changing.

OP makes sense totally right

I expected on reading your heading to be telling you to shhhhh and move on... But I find myself agreeing with you. 1. We should get ascension crystals (or some other name) that allows us to transition exotic weapons & armor into year 2 levels. If we all got 10 crystals guardians could choose which weapons they ascend. It would make each an individual. 2. Not too fussed about the content. I'm still going to run VoG / Crota / patrols because I like them. If you want a challenge, just downgrade your armor & weapons. Is quite fun having to do more than one portal at atheon! 3. I like the reforging function. Really good addition and I'll be disappointed to see it go.

3 RepliesIf you want to walk around with a 25 pound radio in one hand and a box of cassette tapes in the other, that's up to you. For me it's easier to jog with an iPod than a boom box. We should at least have a choice of what we want to lug around.

Mistakes: -No matchmaking for basic activities. -nerf nerf nerf. -listen to this forum.

I agree with you, the only relevant content is gonna be the new one and pretty much everything else is gonna be left behind, wich bring us back to the main issue the game had at it's release and why it was so punished by reviews, the lack of content.
