Edit: Why have you all decided to start responding on this post again?
As someone who struggles with getting Fireteams together, I wish Destiny would allow Raids to have a matchmaking element. It should always be an option, no matter if you already have a Fireteam or not. Nobody will join a Fireteam if you do not want to speak over mic, and I find talking with people I've never met incredibly awkward and annoying. Not that the people are annoying, just the amount of unknown factors of douchiness that go in to public chats. I hope SOMEONE agrees, because I have not been able to take part in any raids because my friend who plays Destiny is online at different times and it's hard to create a Fireteam. It also seems as though it makes you feel left out because it talks about "Playing online and communicating and making friends", to which I say that Online Friends are just pixels and a muffled voice, they are not true friends.
Edit 1: This has truly become quite the discussion! I've joined some groups now that are constantly posting stuff about raids. Matchmaking should still be an option though. Keep up the good discussion! Maybe Bungie will notice(just kidding-they don't give a shit)

2 RepliesHow is it possible to struggle getting a fireteam? I'm an older gamer 30's with no gamer friends. Yet I find it painfully easy to find teams and some really good teams I don't belong to a clan, probably should but I use lfg and it works great I do not understand why this is so difficult for people
-
Go on recruitment forums? Join a clan?
-
Man up! Do a raid and then you will soon think wow what a stupid idea match making raids would be.
-
2 RepliesIn summary.... Because of rage quitters. You're welcome.
-
They should add it with a mic required to be plugged in or something, and optional matchmaking
-
I agree
-
1 ReplyI would have to say it's because matchmaking would be a mess and you wouldn't feel the bond between your team mates because no one uses mics and people usually work better with friends and family.
-
I would have that if it had optional setting for matchmaking and must have leader only.
-
No mic for raids, that doesn't sound like a good I idea. I'm a noob in raids, need tips from the pros.

Okay so you matchmake a raid 2 people are not playing what do you do they also have no mic ... Get wrecked
-
That would be dumb as hell. There would be a lot of people that suck and don't get invited to games because they suck going on there trying to do a raid.
-
Sometimes I think back to CoD zombies. Matchmake to a pre game lobby . ask who knows what. party up slowly with people looking to do it now Even the weird ranking system from BO2 kinda let you know who would possibly know more/be better Be a hell of a way for first timers to make new friends to join the struggle/experienced people to teach fresh raiders/find consistent raid(even PoE maybe) centered players

1 ReplyInstead of matchmaking we should have private lobbies in the tower for each raid. One for VoG, one for Crota, and one for Kings Fall. You wait until someone comes along to the booth to see if they need to find someone for their fireteam and you wave or send them an invite. I think this would be an easier solution.

Edited by psi 5000: 8/19/2015 4:20:05 AMI agree with you. I don't play any aspect of Destiny that is not matchmaking. I'm not interested in talking to people, or being told what to do as part of a "team". If that is how the game is designed then I just won't do that part of the game.

4 RepliesIts awkward for everybody to some degree talking to strangers. I know some have difficully more than most. But in games like this you really need to make that extra effort to chat and break the ice to make new friends to play with if you are serious about progressing in this game. This rings true for most raid/endgame oriented experiences. Most of the games high level challenges require a lot of teamwork and communication, calling out threats and timers is vital. This is why raid matchmaking wouldnt work, all the people who dont talk would use it and you would end up with a silent and frustrated raid team where everybodys trying to do their own thing rather than communicate to work in unison. Most would rage quit. In any mmo ive ever played, all raid activities require mics. I dont understand why you would want to play a social game that requires teamwork but not communicate. Its essential. Just imagine a raid matchmaking in taken king day 1, 6 guys with no mic drop into the raid. Who leads it? Who co ordinates the team, lets go here, lets go over there etc? Non communication just doesnt fit in group based activities like what destiny gives us.

Fine have your nightmare of a match made disaster but don't come back to the forums complaining about how it doesn't work because some troll took the sword/relic and made the team wipe a thousand times. Remember that raids just like PvP also depend on the host to have a good connection for the adds/bosses to act right. Bungie will choose all this for you and you will not have the option to kick people like match made PvP, weekly heroic, lvl 28 PoE. If this is what your willing to subject yourself to then by all means go for it bungie give them what they want and I hope the best to you all.

Imagine vault of glass with 5 other random people with out mics. Good luck getting anything done.

there will always be people without mics or knowledge proving this stuff like this is a bad idea but i wish it was real
-
Because it's too hard, obviously. Because normal crota is impossible without teamwork and communication, right?
#sarcasm
3 RepliesMatchmaking should be included in EVERYTHING. If you don't want to matchmaker YOU DO NOT NEED TO. A skills based matchmaking system would be a welcome addition to this game. I have yet to seen a good argument why it shouldn't be included. If you do not like it, you do not need to use it.

Only in nightfall would work.

18 RepliesI don't think matchmaking for raids would work. First we have people like the OP that have bad social skills and don't want to use their mics. If all six people don't talk, doing the raid will be a pain. Imagine determining a swordbearer when two people are using their mics. Imagine trying to sync in rockets to hit Crota with no one using mics. Imagine telling your team where you got teleported on Atheon without a mic. Communication is key, and if people like you that aren't going to use a mic are going to be using matchmaking, then it will be a failure. Then we have the problem of AFKers. How will they be dealt with? Then we have the problem of a kicking system. How will it work so that it can't be abused? Then we have the problem of underleves trying to do endgame content. Example: 33 trying to do Skolas. Is it possible? Yes. But it's not the ideal situation. Then we have the problem Trolls. How will they be dealt with? As far as traditional matchmaking goes, me personally, I don't think it would work for raids. People like the OP would make it difficult and these problems I brought to mind will make match made teams a nightmare. I think one out of three raids you do with matchmaking will be subject to Atleast one of these problems that will hinder your progress so much that you would have been better off making a group (which isn't hard). A better idea would be an in game LFG page.

It would be a disaster. No thanks.
