Why can't Raids be Matchmaking?

Edit: Why have you all decided to start responding on this post again? As someone who struggles with getting Fireteams together, I wish Destiny would allow Raids to have a matchmaking element. It should always be an option, no matter if you already have a Fireteam or not. Nobody will join a Fireteam if you do not want to speak over mic, and I find talking with people I've never met incredibly awkward and annoying. Not that the people are annoying, just the amount of unknown factors of douchiness that go in to public chats. I hope SOMEONE agrees, because I have not been able to take part in any raids because my friend who plays Destiny is online at different times and it's hard to create a Fireteam. It also seems as though it makes you feel left out because it talks about "Playing online and communicating and making friends", to which I say that Online Friends are just pixels and a muffled voice, they are not true friends. Edit 1: This has truly become quite the discussion! I've joined some groups now that are constantly posting stuff about raids. Matchmaking should still be an option though. Keep up the good discussion! Maybe Bungie will notice(just kidding-they don't give a shit)

  • Because people wouldn't communicate

  • ......and this is why the drop-off was so severe for Destiny over time. Three man teams and 6 man teams take so long to build for the average player......not the ones who camp on the game, but the average player. Bungie with address this or fail.......there will be no other option......fix it, or fail it.

    • I agree it should be an option! I haven't got time to find team online!! Nightfall should have match making also just like the weekly? I don't understand bungie? Just give the players the choice! '

    • Could you imagine trying to do a raid with no communication? It'd be impossible to get past oracles or the bridge.

      • You just gotta get over it dude. It would ruin the whole idea behind a raid, the feel, even ruin the game for some people. Id rather have it as is than have it turn into a glorified strike.

      • I wouldn't do matchmaking for raids even if they had it already. To many trolls and such out there.

      • Though I used to be for this, communication is essential for raids. If everyone is silent it is almost impossible to get past the Oracles in VoG or across the bridge on Crota (albeit Crota is easier to do silent). Imagine PoE 35 with matchmaking and no mics? Yeah.

        • I play fighting games with the lobbies system .. I think that would be a good concept here for raid matchmaking. You open up a lobby and boom! People join. Easy, peesy, lemon squeezy.

        • OK.. Yes matchmaking IS needed.. Not in the conventional way though, in this game you should have a 'option' to choose MM, after choosing it the game should then take you to a tower like space for activity you want, from such a space (tower) you should then find it very, very easy to find willing partners Plus have some idea of thier xp, weapons and mainly if there using a mic.. come on anti-mm's tell me what'd be wrong with such a system?.

          • Yeah, make matchmaking a thing so you can come back and complain to remove it. It would suck if it didn't have completely easy mechanics to it. Half your raid would be afk, nobody would have mics or even know what to do. You would come back and complain about that, raids should never have matchmaking, because they are supposed to decently difficult and require communication. Like 1/200 raids would actually get completed, you would be better off going to a lfg site. Now I could agree with a message board or something in the Tower to find groups, that would make a lot more sense.

          • I can mostly agree with this, although communication or at least listening to someone is important, it took me months before I finally got on the forums and found a team to run through a raid with and even then it often relies on timing

          • I'd prefer if they made the bounty board into an lfg board, this way it's in game, more people can access it.
it'd be better if it also could show where you are at with your group finding, say I post on it that I need four more people for [insert activity here] and it shows a status bar of room in the group and when it fills the post is closed.
• AFKers Trolls People joining when massively under-levelled blue weapons...So many blue weapons... People who don't know what they're doing You put effort into your character, their weapons, armour etc. You make sure you're of acceptable level when doing a raid? So you expect everyone else to do the same right? I barely notice anyone using the right burn weapons Using blue weapons people being under levelled And this is all in weekly heroic. God help it if raid matchmaking becomes a thing I kinda want them to add it, just so everyone will realise it's a terrible idea an then they can remove it and be done.

re: We want it to be optional so stop crying because you guys wouldn't be affected at all: Here is what will likely happen: 1) Player A queues up for a raid. 2) Player A finds a group. 3) Group is really bad, players go AFK and won't leave, players are undergeared, etc.. 4) Previous three steps are repeated an unfortunate number of times. 5) Player A thinks to himself, "This is too hard, we are being set up for failure". 6) Player A hops on the forums along with many other players like him and complains. 7) Bungie ignores them. 8) Hordes of Player A's keep complaining. 9) Bungie explains to them that if they want to success, they should form their own groups. 10) Hordes of Player A's are still complaining. 11) Bungie finally caves in and makes the existing content easier as well as any content in the future. 12) End-game content is now boring and uninteresting because raids are now as brainless as level 28 PoE. The following can also happen: 1) Player A queues up for a raid. 2) Player A finds a group. 3) Player B goes AFK or is so bad it is preventing the group from progressing. 4) Player A thinks to himself, "we should be able to kick this guy". 6) Player A hops on the forums along with many other players like him and complains. 7) Bungie ignores them. 8) Hordes of Player A's keep complaining. 9) Bungie explains that adding a kick feature isn't the best idea. 10) Hordes of Player A's are still complaining. 11) Bungie inevitably caves in and adds vote-to-kick feature. 12) Player A matchmakes into a raid and gets kicked just before loot drops because some players in the group know each other and wanted to be douchebags. 13) Player B matchmakes into a different raid and gets kicked because he is terrible and is a detriment to any group he's in. 14) Both Player A and Player B are on the forums complaining about their new problems. Then there are issues that Bungie would have to resolve such checkpoints. An example: - Not allowing people who matchmake into them would result in complaints. - Allowing matchmaking into checkpoints would result in longer queue times because the playerbase will be divided. - What happens if someone leaves after a boss (like leaving after the Templar because you only wanted Fatebringer)? - Is matchmaking gonna put someone into that raid who wanted to do a full run? - Or will that group have to hope they can invite someone who can help them? - Either way either that group will be inconvenienced or people who are queued up will be inconvenienced. Also note that the more resources they allocate to resolving such issues, the less resources they can allocate to developing new content and/or functionalities.

                • The last thing I want in a raid is some mute random. Who knows their skill, aptitude, or if they'll even contribute, or just hide in a corner AFK. Communication is paramount in raids, as well as participation.
