Why all the gay hate?
Right, first of I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to make one of these "look at me, I'm gay" posts but has anyone out there noticed how much hate is out there for gays in this community?
I mean seriously it's getting beyond a joke, I've lost count of how many times I've been kicked from raids because of it. It's not like I'm overtly gay or anything but also sure as hell not going to hide it. I mean come on, what difference does it really make provided I can play the game and follow instructions (which I can)?
You don't see me kicking people for being straight and that gives me the creeps probably as much as the thought of 2 guys does for you.
I guess all I'm saying is why cant we all just get along regardless of sexuality/race/gender?
For those asking how people know I'm gay it's generally one of 2 ways:
1) people use the word gay in a derogative manner which I find offensive and will generally say so.
2) general conversation, you know small talk - sports, games, girls etc

It bugs me when I hear people say something like: "that's gay" or "shut up, fag" when it has nothing to do with homosexuality. So many people speak that way, using the terms in a derogatory way, that I run into them all the time. I wish I could change how others acted, or what they believe, but I can't. I'm not gay, but I support you, brother, just like I would any other person. Just be the better person. Try not to let it hurt you, and be yourself. If you play on PS4 and want to do some raids, weeklies, nightfalls, go ahead and add me. Same name as above.

It's not just the destiny community. It goes back to how society has portrayed the homosexual lifestyle. It's sad. Personally I don't mind people being gay or not. You should be allowed to love whoever you want without getting weird looks or being treated differently. People need to calm down and stop all the hate. There's no reason why a guy or girl can't love someone of the same sex as much as any other person. We're all people.

I wouldn't care..... Religion has taught us hate and it's disgusting. I don't care if my neighbor shoots heroin while banging 10 guys, as long as it doesn't affect my life, then who cares?!!! Racism and homophobia are still kinks in the societal rift that have yet to work themselves out. That's how it always works. You have a bunch of people grasping like all hell to hold on to the "good 'ol days". These people have been around since humans have been around. They'll always buck against anything that's against the grain. The ones that REALLY hate gays...oh, that's where it gets good. Ya see, that's what a closeted person sounds like. Full of hate. Seen it first hand growing up. Dude we all knew just would FLIP if gays were brought up in any conversation. At times when he would get drunk he'd suddenly start bashing on them for no reason, we live in rural illinois and there are no gay bars lmao. Anyway, you can guess what happened, yea, he's gay.

I don't think this is off topic at all, if no one wanted to play with any of us because somehow we indicated we were straight, there would be massive complaining on here. It is obviously affecting his ability to play Destiny with people so it is completely relevant to him. And just because it may not be *our* struggle, it is something we should empathize with and keep in mind when confronting others in the future. I hope it gets better, jimgun.

I firmly believe that in no way during a 50 minute raid your sexuality casually comes up in the conversation. It kind of leads me to believe you are putting it out there yourself. nothing wrong with that but being homosexual you know persecution exists. Either you decide to put it out there and take your chances with the consequences or quit blatantly throwing it out in casual conversation. Secondly...grow some thicker skin. People will use the word gay to describe things until earth is consumed by the sun. It will never change. Its just part of life. Much like the slang term -blam!- most likely isnt going anywhere. Retarded is another derogetory word towards the mentally handicap. Have you ever said something is retarded? Why arent you shouldering that cross as well? The point is words are words. Unless they are insulting you directly you shouldnt cry about it. I actually have a couple of gay friends so im not trying to bash. I wouldnt have a problem with running with you unless you continually went out of your way to remind me or reinforce the fact that you arr gay, which i suspect you do. In no raid grouo i ha e ever been in did someones sexual orientation come into the conversation.

I have no problem with gays. But it's people like you who make me a little angry. Being gay is not a badge, the world doesn't need to know, and more importantly, no one cares. Iv held my tongue many times during my life, and it's time for you to do the same during these raids. If it's that offensive, quit. Really? 90% of them would say nothing to your face. 50% of them will run into trouble in the outside world for being a twat. 20% of them are gay. But not out. 5% probably have skull tattoos on their face. 100% of them are not welcome on Earth, Moon, Venus or Mars. 1 ReplyI am surprised by all the hateful comments below. I have no problem at all with anyone's sexuality. When I am playing in a group I never make any comments unless I know them well enough to banter with. If you were in my team and mentioned you are gay I would not kick you out. But I would not expect anyone to give private details regardless of sexual preference. So I would ignore the haters and focus on the genuine gamers out there.

1 ReplyMate, it shouldn't matter if your gay, straight, bi, trans, whatever. Same as it shouldn't what shade your skin is or the corner of the world you hail from. Some people are just assholes, some people have never even had a conversation with the people they apparently dislike, which is wonderfully stupid. It's a universal thing. I remember my first year working in an Asian country years back I worked in the middle of nowhere that most folk from that country don't even know. I was constantly getting told "-blam!- Japan" and seeing massive anti-Japanese sentiment, but if you stopped and asked them about it their response was always "Because of the war man, don't you hate Germans?" to which my response was always "F- no, Germans are awesome, I ain't got a problem with them because 70 years ago we fought on different sides of a war, that's F-ing stupid." Their attitude towards homosexuality was the same, we got told that the local end would find a reason to fire my two co-workers that were gay if it ever came out, which was wonderful, I almost got fired for pulling up an entire class of 18 year old kids for their constant homophobia (whilst they didn't know that one of their classmates was gay). The lessons here are first; that some people are massively ignorant because they've never been exposed to anyone from another way of life, and honestly? That is their loss, a lot of the people who have had massive effects on the way that I think and how I act have came from all over the world and there has been a large variation in their lifestyles, homelands and backgrounds, the second part comes from those experiences, doesn't matter where you come from, some people are just good people, some people are pricks. Anyone treating you crappy cause you like guys falls into the latter category. I am sure there are plenty people here that couldn't care less who you like in that way, and only care if you're good with a gun. If you're any good and on PS3 hit me up and I will raid with you some time.

Because adolescent males still make up the majority (a much smaller majority than it once was) of gamers. They are first coming into their own and experiencing a lot of peer pressure to "be a man". In their mind, immasculating someone is the best insult, and for some reason gay men aren't men (though they often times have suffered far more adversity and abuse than most straight men). The worst thing to them is for someone to have ammunition to use against them in an immasculating way. Playing with a gay man leaves them open to juvenile and illogical insults (you play with gays, you must be gay), and they don't want to be otracized from their group of friends. I'm in no way defending it, it is wrong and small minded. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with your ability to play the game. I grew up with a gay uncle, I never hid that when growing up and was otracized from some groups of people as a result.I didn't go around announcing it, but stood up for homosexuals whenever people were bad mouthing them as I took it as an attack on a member of my family. Really it is just their own insecurity and misinformation that causes it, I'm sorry you get the raw deal of it, but I would just suggest finding a group/clan of older gamers that are more secure with themselves. If you're on Xbone you can add me. My wife and I share the account and I've been actively filling my friends list with more mature players lately. Got really sick of running with randoms :/ For clarity, I'm not calling all teenage gamers ass hats or anything like that, I was one once and held some views with absolute certainty that I strongly disagree with now.

I dig that u are offended by by people using the word gay as a negative but u have to accept that it has an other definition for a lot in this times. Most time I'm using it for fun or to say something unmanly. Sure it may not be political correct but a few of the best jokes aren't too. And to be honest I even don't get a bad feeling by using this word this way, cause everyone that knows me is aware of the fact that I'm very tolerant. In your position I would just stay calm and say nothing about my sexual preferences, your playing with strangers there's no place for this topic. U say u don't want to hide and that's okay but that's just not the place to.

It's not meant to offend gay people, if someone is gay and ask me to stop I apologize and stop. But as a straight guy that is comfortable with his sexuality and doesn't get "weirded" or "freaked" out by gay people, I find it quite funny when you call someone gay and they're such a homophobe that it really pisses them off. I like pushing the button because you know they were jacked off by their friend in summer camp and now they are closet gays
