So after discussing lore and grimoire with others, I was suggested to post my theory on Kabr. Given this is all theory and speculation and an opinion, so please respect it. I've thoroughly read all the grimoire I have and the few I don't, and find it possible that Kabr is not dead, and could be featured later in the story. So here it is.
Kabr is never stated to be "dead". We read he vanished, was consumed by the vault and read of his downfall. To start, his armor states that the vex didn't kill him, so I don't believe that he was killed by the vex. If we can remember him, then he wasn't erased by gorgons, oracles or the templar. But he says, "They are in my blood and brain...", meaning the vex could slowly be driving him to insanity. He also says, "if you abandon your purpose, let the vault consume you, as it has consumed me...", which I believe could mean his original purpose for entering the vault changed drastically from investigating, to surviving and allowing others to survive within the vault. The biggest reason I believe he isn't dead, his last words. "If I speak again, I am not Kabr", as the vex cause him to lose more and more control over himself and his insanity, he's losing the ability to know who he is, and he senses this is coming. So he creates the shield and sends out a warning while he is still Kabr. He says this knowing that, if he speaks again, which why would he need to speak ever again if he's trapped within the vault? But if he does speak, he would not be the same person he was before he created the shield. Still alive, but not his original self. He would be someone or something besides Kabr.
Also, the Vex Mythoclast card could prove some significant reasons. It says that the mytho is, "a vex instrument from some far flung corner of space and time. Mysteriously, fit for human hands. Its purpose and origins are unknown, but perhaps will reveal itself to you in time". I took that as saying, that kabr was able to fashion together a weapon, much like he made the shield, from vex technology. And he made it while he was caught in the time gates, and was able to send the weapon through the past through another time gate, meaning he was in the future when he made it, which would explain why it says it will eventually reveal its origin in due time.
I know some will say, but he sacrificed his light to make the shield, so he killed himself. Not necessarily. There's plenty of characters with no light at all, but they live. The stranger, she wasn't born in the light. Shin Malphur wasn't a guardian with light, he was a rebel hunter. So kabr giving up his light doesn't mean he killed himself.
All the grimoire says he was consumed and lost to us, but never is it clearly stated he is dead. Much like some other notable characters. Toland, Osiris etc, they could very well be alive. While others have proof to their death: Dredgen Yor, Saint-14, Jaren Ward.
I may edit in other points I may have left out, but that would be all my main points that suggests to me Kabr still lives, and may make a return of some sort in the future of the game. Maybe not like Eris, but maybe like a Rasputin like ally.
Anyways, hope you enjoyed it. Please stay respectful, and hopefully there can be some good discussions on this thread. Thanks!

Was reading the Vex grimoires (though I only have 1 and 3 unfortunately) And it made me think that the vault of glass wasn't really a loss for the vex. More like a simulation they were running to see all if the possible outcomes of a direct confrontation. It would be pretty cool if the Upcoming DLC would all tie in to a final battle with the vex through Rasputins influence, since in the 3rd vex grimoire they state that only a warmind could act in a way that the vex can't infer. The main game has us discover that Rasputin is still active, TDB has us contact/rescue it. The next one could involve convincing Rasputin to help us fight back. (And I don't mean as a basis for the dlc, just as a side note like they've been doing... Until the last one lol) I know it's probably foolish, but I'm still hoping that all of these scraps of story in-game will tie together eventually lol.
