Good players don't complain about not getting exotics
Because they don't need them; it's precisely the reason they're good.
Edit: for example, don't you think it's much more challenging and rewarding (or at least would be) to beat a Nightfall using only non-exotic weapons? You could be the first in the world to if you did...
Edit2: a lot of people seem confused. This topic isn't about the loot system/endgame. It's about players' skill levels and using exotics as a crutch.

The only exotic weapon I have is invective. I use it because I play well with it and it's the only one I have lol. I will complain about not getting exotics because I want to know what everyone's talking about. Plus the fact more damage output kills things faster thus getting through strikes and missions faster. You can be the best player but if your weapon doesn't have good dps you're gonna be there forever. Ain't nobody got time for dat

I think the issue isn't that players can't get exotics, rather being unable to get the exotic they want. I can play the game fine with the arsenal I have now, but that won't change the fact that i still want to play the game with an Icebreaker, which hasn't dropped for me and many others. As time goes by, grinding for your desired exotic becomes frustrating, hence the complaints in the forums.

The only reason I have the light level I do is because someone carried me through Crota once and I got two legendary armor pieces. Other then that, non-exotics/legendary can barely compete in Crucible. Except for the weapons you can actually earn in the crucible, which are very good.

They may not want exotics but they would feel better if they were rewarded for their effort. Instead they occasionally see someone who did awful, get an exotic.

I use legendary scout rifles as main black hammer or light of the abyss as special and hezen vengeance as heavy

It gets annoying not having a good exotic. I'm fine with legendary weapons though, not a huge difference imo.
