Finally beat VotD. Here's my thoughts.

For one, it was very frustrating as some clan members have been experiencing serious internet problems, so I'd say more than half my total time spent in the raid thus far was just waiting for the DC'd person to rejoin, after we wipe of course in the middle of doing an encounter. That's not a dig at Bungie, just explains why it took us so long. Anyway... I very much enjoy the environment, for one. The Egyptian architecture and theming that comes with being in a Pyramid Ship is super cool. The dead worm is so cool to see too. Lore and storywise, this has been my favorite raid on that front. Finally actually going up against some form of the Darkness in the flesh is what we've been waiting on for years. This has been fantastic on that aspect. Encounters are a bit of a mixed bag for me. I like the mechanics as a whole, I like the level of communication required, and I like that there's not much room for error with the encounters, but just enough that you can save a run with some quick thinking. This is different from some past raids where it is almost guaranteed a wipe if one person dies or one thing gets missed, as well as the other end of the spectrum where people can die left and right, but the encounter is so simple and bland that it doesn't matter and won't be a wipe even if 4 players go down at the same time (I'm looking at you, every single encounter in DSC *yawn*). However, the encounters do feel as if they drag on longer than they need to, especially Caretaker. Nobody likes a health-gated boss, but he also would die way too quick without that health gate in place; I'm speaking strictly on the raid as it is right now, not when Contest Mode was on. I feel like four floors worth of repeating the same mechanics goes too long. Three, counting the last stand, seems like it'd be a good spot. The first encounter and third encounter are a bit long too, but since they aren't boss encounters, I'm more okay with how they are. Rhulk is a fun final boss. Some neat mechanics that differ from the rest of the raid, which is refreshing as the typical Destiny raid final boss is essentially "take all the mechanics from previous encounters and put them together." It's quite fun actively wanting to jump into the laser beam that you would otherwise want to avoid at all costs. An interesting twist. Rhulk's attacks are unique too. He's also different from most raid bosses as he is very mobile, even during the actual damage phase where most bosses either stop moving around, or never really were moving to begin with. Jury is still out on the armor. I'm not sure if I care for the look or not. That I will decide later. But I can say I appreciate that it is bold, very different, and easily recognizable as the raid armor, unlike other raids with more generic looking armor (DSC is a good example of this). The weapons that I've gotten thus far I really like. SMG, grenade launcher, and linear fusion. Especially the linear fusion because I got a pretty nice roll on it. But all the weapons have the same, very cool look to them, sounds that differ from other weapons, and a very appealing intrinsic perk. Overall, I like the raid more than our last couple we got in DSC (too simple for my taste), and VoG, which I've done far too many times in D1 alone and so it doesn't remotely excite me, especially since it objectively wasn't a very enjoyable raid when compared to others in the franchise. I'd give it a solid 9/10. Aside from Caretaker being a more drawn out encounter than I think it needs to be, I don't have much negative to say. I would say it is near the top of my personal raid rankings, maybe a solid 3rd, arguably second. Wrath still holds that top spot as my favorite, but Vow did a good job at coming fairly close. In the end, good job to Bungie and especially the raid team.
