Dear Bungie
Firstly - this is not an overly complaining post. If it appears that way from my tone this is purely down to frustration at the new changes to matchmaking this week, but I have endeavoured to keep all salient points respectful and constructive as that is always the best way for constructive feedback or dialogue
Secondly - some context. I have been around since the beta of D1 and rarely does any game take up my free time like Destiny. Through all its ups and downs, glroius triumphs and major faults - I am there smiling to the end as never has a game grabbed me (and continues to) like this
Thirdly - some specific Trials context. I play for mulitple hours each day Trials is up with a mixture of team and solo play, with a mixture of skill levels across the teammates I play with. But I tend to average anywhere from 1.2 to 1.7 k/d over the years, Nothing spectacular of course, but as someone with over 123 flawless completions since Trials came out over its various incarnations - I think it at least allows me to comment with some degree of experience at least
Without doubt - this has been the worst weekend matchmaking wise I can EVER remember. It is inconceivable to me that someone thought this was a good way to balance matchnmaking. In my humble opinion there are two MASSIVE flaws with the revised system
1. Someone who has lost 1000 games and won 20 can theoritically come up against ZK, Frost and Krafty on a twenty win streak and there is no logic in the way to prevent this. Absolute madness at the conception level and it honestly amazes me that this ever got past the round table discussion at Bungie
2. Someone like myself this week, who has 50 wins but easilly that many losses aswell, is ACTIVELY punished for continually attempting to get Flawless as when you dont succeed your win count PROGRESSIVELY makes future challenges that much harder, while someone who didnt play Friday and Saturday can romp home against vastly less experienced players on little wins.......
I really hope that when the dust settle on this weekend you take a look at the sheer volume of negative feedback from across various media that discusses the game. Im struggling to find many fans of any part of the changes. Yes you cant please everyone - but in my opinion - its hard to find anyone that is pleased.....
And before this post fills up with nothing but "get gud" comments - that really is missing the point. People at my level can live without going Flawless, we can live with being challenged to get there (indeed those games are the most fun), but to be punished for failed attempts is sheer lunacy. PVP should be about fun, improvement, and hopefully eventual success - no matter what game mode you are attempting. These changes do nothing but get in the way of that
If I am reading the TWAB correctly - these changes will be in effect all throughout November as well with no posibility of change. In that case, and it really pains me to say it, I will either artificially beat the system simply by not playing the game mode I love until the last day and make it miserable for the people we should be able to beat - or simply not play at all
The really sad part is, that in my little corner of the destiny world. I wont be alone in this either........
Bungie - please - consider a change based on the huge negative feedback to these changes
Thanks for listening
Cheers

Edited by Xriotor: 11/2/2021 10:33:08 PMI managed to end up in a match that we lost by 1 kill, team had 3 supers in the end to our 1, and we got it down to the last guy before his super overpowered us - for a 4/5 loss. I was on a 1-win card and that team - we sent to the Lighthouse.... How does that even make sense? I lost all weekend... only ever had 4 wins at my peak, and somehow matched against a team that was on their flawless last match while I had 1 win on the card.... Monday. After I looked at destinytracker.com they had triple-diamond players with a 90% chance of winning. My best guess is that they must have had similar number of Wins after I played on-and-off all weekend and lost 75% of my matches.... Now, I could look at the positive (and from Bungie's perspective, the data) and see that we *almost* won against impossible odd's and the match was 4/5 in the end, however the fact that we were matched whatsoever is complete nonsense that can't be reasoned. https://destinytracker.com/destiny-2/pgcr/9549150265 X

1 ReplyEdited by Sohsuh: 11/2/2021 5:45:52 PMIsn't it hilarious that after the first weekend with gigantic numbers and an overwhelming amount of positive feedback they decided to change things? Then after the Freelance weekend where again they received a ton of positive feedback, they decided to take it away and change things? And now here we are with the worst weekend yet and they will probably leave it like this. I can't help but feel like they just want to destroy the mode because they are doing such a good job of it.

1 ReplyI wonder if people should give the new MM some more time. For players in your position trials MM should become easier over the weekend. Yes you're on 50 wins but players better than you should be racking up wins at a faster rate, i.e. the very good players may already be on 50 wins on Friday. There can't be that many 50-0 teams left on Tuesday

2 RepliesEdited by Terezi__Pyrope__: 11/1/2021 4:15:51 PMI can assure you that players who played sunday/after got screwed as well, had time to play trials only yesterday, and was so god awful, 0-5 losses on the first round, and while im not a good player, im not bad

Pretty much nail on the head. First they want to make Trials more accessible to solo and/or lower skilled players, and then they proceed to implement a system that makes your games harder and harder with each win... without taking losses or streaks into account. It's always swinging to one extreme or another. End of the day, Trials is still endgame, and that means people with more skill get the rewards more easily. "This is the way it should be", as Saint-14 would say. It is simply unfair and even rude for someone to demand or expect games to be manipulated in their favor just because they aren't as good at the game. Because on the other end of that manipulation, people who are better at the game are actively being punished for it, and that's gotta be the most stupid thing I've ever heard of. A Flawless pool based on this design is fundamentally flawed, and most people who wish to keep it or applaud it are the ones who probably shouldn't reach the Lighthouse to begin with. All Trials ever needed was a freelance mode, no matchmaking changes. That's just my take though.

The fact that they just outright decided this change is for the month confused me. Every other week it’s trying something out. Then this week it’s like yup we are changing this for an extended period. I honestly think they just killed trials for the next month.

I totally agree with this im far from sweaty but I'm using trials to improve my pvp skills (now a 0.9kd in cruci was a 0.7). While i have gone flawless (yes i play with decent friends I still have my hero moments) and feel like I've put in work and earned my way to the lighthouse. I might be in the minority here but i enjoyed the flawless pool near the halfway mark on the weekend. It's good practice facing sweaty teams because imo I'm not improving by winning 5-0, and losing 5-0 does suck but it motivates me to get better at pvp. I do wish there was a passage where i can forego my rewards and xp as well as the ability to go flawless so i can play with my friends that are at a 0.3kd so we can mess around and get them a few wins here and there but even if not i found it easier to play with them in the flawless pool than this weekend. Freelance I get was liked by many and while i don't agree with splitting the pools even more it's still something they can implement to help appease solo players by maybe throwing it in once a month or even have the matchmaking prioritize solos/duos with solos/duos and three stacks with three stack (not a dev don't know how hard this would be to setup). Anyways trials isnt going to make everyone happy but this is the way in my eyes that could work. Week 1 was amazing and I've had fun the following weeks (some more than others) but get the reasoning for trying to freshen up the mode. Would love to hear others ideas and help bungie make this game better for everyone in a civilized fashion ❤.

I’m with you as well. I love trials but this past weekend was absolutely terrible. I’m a 1.5 kd player and most the time we went up against 2.0-4.0 KD players. This weekend was so frustrating. One of our matches was on our first game on a card that was reset was against a team that beat us and went to the lighthouse. I love trials and the new focus on it but this was a terrible idea that was extremely shortsighted. Like seriously, base matching on cumulative wins? Plus, we are stuck with this a month. Terrible. I’ve enjoyed every iteration of trials this season and actually enjoyed the capture point week a lot because when playing with my less skilled clan mates, it gave them a way to feel involved.
