Interesting that I should find this post at this particular time. I'm 60 and have been playing videogames since discovering a Space Invaders machine in a pub in 1980 to pass the time while my mate Paul fed his week's wages into a fruit machine. I've been trawling through the forums looking for a reason to return to the world of Destiny, maybe for Witch Queen (life is kind of in the way atm). I quit playing after Shadowkeep when "new" content became recycled D1 stuff and then sunsetting started retiring content I had paid for. Frustrated that I'd slogged my way through the Crucible quests for the pulse rifle and SMG when PvP is not my forte only to have them vaulted and capped. But if anything the last 2 years of Real Life has taught me, look forward, not back, right? There's also quite a lot of similar-aged Guardians in this thread who are also feeling like the game has left them behind. So, genuine question: Is it health reasons or is peer pressure making you feel to old for a space shooter? Do you feel left out and embarrassed amongst younger players? I get that. My own friends and family don't get it either, but what annoys me is that they just focus on that. This is one of half-a-dozen hobbies and interests I have. This is the first game I've played that I've found people my age playing. Unfortunately most of the fireteam members and clan mates I had have also quit Destiny for the same reasons I did. I've been looking through the clan forums for a clan for older players., but it seems "older" means "21+". I'm thinking more 50-ish+. Maybe the answer is to create one. I've been toying with the idea for a few days just thinking up names. Golden Age Guardians? Praetorian Pensioners? Eva's Sewing Circle? I'd like to know if there's enough old players out there to be worth making this an actual thing in 2022. "We don't stop playing because we get old. We get old because we stop playing." ~ George Bernard Shaw.

Sad to hear that, I am 69, very close to 70, still play everyday, still play pvp and trials too, gaming is good for you, especially as we get older, helps to maintain a sharp brain and coordination, hopefully you reconsider and dust off that controller sometime soon. If you do, feel free to make contact, happy to run with you ...

        • I'm 50 next month and gaming is the only thing that keeps me sane! It's also one of the only things I can do now after unsuccessful spinal surgery. I do get days or sometimes weeks when I feel really old (there's people in my clan young enough to be my kids) but I always come back. I hope you do well in whatever you do next but remember, the community is here, waiting for you to pick up that controller again.

I'm reading all the comments and I would've never thought that there is a considerable amount of adult/mature guardians. This is awesome! Wish you well and keep gaming.

I’m 45, I’ll hang up my controller when they pry it out of my cold dead hands. Gaming is the only thing that keeps me sane in this messed up world.

              • At 46 my twitch reflexes for PvP are not what they once were. As I aged, I've had to transition from a pure reflex action to the thinking man's game. Using all my years of gaming to make on the fly decisions for positioning, rather than running in guns blazing and relying on reflexes. I've slowly stepped away from PvP because of this, but still hit PvE strong. Still having a blast working with clan mates on raids, dungeons and so on. Hope to still be playing well into my 60's

                • I'm old, have tumors on my spine that besides back and sciatica pain, cause my hand to glitch and toss the controller a couple feet. Sure others can pick motes up faster and dodge bullets better but it's still fun sometimes. I guess losing a bunch of matches in a row can cause a sense of sadness that causes one to want to give up, but whats left? At this age usually the wives are gone, the kids don't care because the money is gone, The cats only want canned food and the dog is mad because you won't keep throwing the ball. Best to stick to the addiction you know, Destiny, and have frustration that is manageable than be confronted by the reality of slow death.

                    •
decided to hang up my controller
I can't blame you, many has left the game too. Millions actually over the years. Some are still leaving as now. It's become hollow and shallow. You are not alone. It's okay to put down this game and maybe find something else. I hope you find something new and feels good for you to play out there. Peace out guardian.

                      • My grandfather spent his first 50 years chasing elk, skiing, fishing, and otherwise enjoying at the outdoors. But when he could no longer chase elk, and could no longer do those two week excursions into the wilderness, he just stopped everything. A lot of people would just switch to deer hunting in a blind. Or trolling in a fishing boat. But for him it was either 100% or nothing. I often think that was a mistake for him as he spent the next 40 years being relatively depressed. I bring that up because I am now 44 and have often thought about stopping gaming because I was no longer as good/competitive as I used to be. Not to mention that sometimes it gets in the way of going out and doing those outdoor activities. I have decided to continue in moderation (while getting out more) and to stop holding myself to the same standard I did when I was younger. There’s a reason pro gamers are 19 to 25. So I guess the reason I bring this up is because I wonder why you’re quitting. If you’re quitting to spend more time with grandkids or do more real world things then it might be the right reason. But if you’re quitting because you feel like 59-year-old shouldn’t play games or because you’re no longer as competitive as you used to be I would think you should examine that. Age is a number after all.

                      • Being older and dealing with the challenges presented by declining health both physically and mentally. I find that at some time during the season I need a break from Bungie. Why? so I don't end up hating the game and like most addictions in the past, quit it forever. Recently the candy and pages mild grind, coming after the new season grind didn't get me to that point. Then I said to myself lets just gild the Dredgen seal. Solo play is almost a requirement when really old so matchmaking is the default. The 50 wins was an nightmarish grind filled with great heartache and mental damage. Now I will take my break and all will be great again soon. I find a week does wonders.

                      • Yup, can accept that. I’m 64 my mate is in his 50s, we realise that games aren’t made for us, they’re made for Teens and Young Adults. 7 yrs of Destiny, I think we’re certainly played out. D1 was a blast, we’ve still got in on our respective XBox X and give it a nostalgic blast every now and again, that version has lost nothing because Sunsetting didn’t exist. We have an occasional laugh wondering what D1 Content is going to be sold as D2 next? I’m getting Cataracts and Arthritis has hit both of us, we no longer play D2 every single day any more, it’s no longer fun. I’ve Pro Ordered the December 7 DLC, I don’t think I’ll be ordering WQ. I avoid PvP like the Plague it is and repetitive PVE just isn’t fun. But, I’ve got good memories and met many Good People, so thanks for that. Now, there’s other Solo Games to try, no toxicity. Bungie, you didn’t want to listen to us oldies, 30+ Years gaming experience but we’ve got nothing to contribute as far as you’re concerned. That’s OK, things change, new people new ideas, but our money doesn’t change and we’ve got quite a lot of it left to spend with Other Publishers. No Problems. I’ve been Playing Bungie Creations since Halo in the very first XBox, I think very highly of their progress, up to and including D1 I thought Bungie couldn’t put a foot wrong, I was wrong and severely disappointed. If I’m still around, I’ll certainly look at your next Creation Bungie, but for now D2 and me, I think, are all played out.
