I'm sorry, but no.
The statis supers are mostly T E R R I B L E other than the hunter, which is situational only. The modular ability system is interesting, lots of potential once fleshed out way more, though right now very clunky and no real choice in terms of a vs b both being viable. I know almost no one who runs anything different from one class to the other much less on the same class in terms of nade or abilities or aspects or fragments other than if the situation demands a change from what is pretty universally considered best in class. There's no actual stand out competition of one style vs the other on stasis right now. It is the same for everyone i play with in 99% of the gameplay. But again to that point, it is new and still needs fleshed out, so i'm not at all upset on that front. It is exactly where i expected it to be this early in, and that's ok. Good idea, fresh, with lots of potential.
Once honed and perfected, stasis won't be horrible to play in general like now assuming supers get reworked or options to change the stasis supers come along. Even say tweaking the supers. It would be fine to bring the system to all sub classes, again assuming super agency is still there. But, the absolute failure of the stasis subclass currently, besides zero reason to run a different nade or aspect or fragment outside of a rare circumstance, is the generally garbage supers as they are now outside of very specific instances.
The slow evolving of U S A B L E supers in the main subclasses, that took about 3 years to perfect, is exactly why cutting super options is the single dumbest idea i've ever heard. On what planet does someone really perfect something over time then say, nah i liked it better when it was trash and no one used subclass a on warlock and subclass b on titan and subclass c on hunters. It just makes zero logical sense.
The only one super idea was one of the worst things about destiny 1 and the single most painful thing for all of us who still revisit D1. Having multiple "there's no reason to use that subclass" on different classes is absolutely the dumbest step backwards i can even try to fathom a person twisting their mind into thinking was a good idea. Allowing people to PICK a class then have a bevy of options: be it pvp, support role, pve, add clear, etc is what makes this game function as well as it does. Everyone i play with has a favorite a preferred and is willing to run the one they don't like when needed. Further pushing people away from entire classes if they are a PVP main or a PVE main is just mind boggling to me.
Static supers really was one of the only things that in hindsight sucked about D1, again go revisit D1, it really sucks hard. Lack of grappling ledges was one other. Last that comes to mind was "the return to orbit mini game after literally any interaction." The fact this interview not only implies this is all stasis will ever get, but that they will take away even more of the ONLY relevant player agency in this game from activity to activity, really stains even the most forgiving folks in the community who agree to wait and see as bungie takes risks evolving the game. Content rental and gear rental already sucks as bad as expected, they have had to roll back and add back weapons to fix what was an obvious mis-step to all of us before they even rolled it out fully.
My for example, i play warlock as a main but play all 3 after years as a hunter main. If well is gone, i'm happy to pack it in. But if it isn't, there are tons of top tree locks that are equally screwed and gone from the community. I also don't want to be forced back into D2 Year 1 where PVP i can only be stasis or arc, it simply isn't fun. I love that i can play any class in any mode. It is one of the only things left about this game i enjoy, largely because of the demands the chores those of us who grind force us to do if we seek to play optimally. I love not having an arc scout option in the legend lost sectors when scouts are the only functional overload weapon, don't you?? lol, but i digress.
Further, this ridiculously stupid idea means, for example, if well is kept, locks will have ZERO viable solar pvp option, and so on down the line with each class and subclass. One or the other, forcing you to play a subclass you hate or that doesn't match your bounties or the daily/weekly singe. Having super agency is really what sets this apart from D1, but also what allows for folks to play multiple classes comfortably if they enjoy that grind.
I have a support option on all 3 characters, i have a boss dps option, and lastly and add control option. Forcing us to 1 subclass for the role we want play in the activities we like to do makes doing 90% of the chores and garbage we are forced to do if we like to optimally level characters and grind...things...honestly no longer worth the time and effort.
So, i am ALL FOR (a way better and more polished) stasis style ability system on all subclasses. It is really shit right now, but it is brand new, and the potential is there to outshine the static versions the light subclasses have once the kinks of how these work are hammered out. But, that is 100% predicated on the idea of player agency with supers. Being able to PVE or PVP on any subclass is vital to this game being not only playable, but also is a core function of how everything works in terms of doing the chores, leveling, as well as higher level stuff in the game.
Literally screwing one side of the community or the other out of an entire subclass or in some cases and entire class is literally just the worst idea possible. I'm being serious, i never touch some subclasses of each of my characters unless i am forced to by a bounty or a pinnacle drop or activity, not cause any are bad, just i like others more to my play style. And being able to lean on the option that best fits the situation even if it isn't my favorite, based on what i'm doing, is the only thing that makes the crap that feels like chores bearable. Like sure there are some supers THAT I PERSONALLY don't care at all about, but there are a large swath of people who that is the only super they play on that class. There's no actual good reason to limit the super options if the goal is to have a fun, accessible game that allows folks to enjoy playing the class they enjoy on the singe they enjoy.
Can someone have some f-in balls and just stand up in one of these brainstorming meetings at Bungie and say what almost the entire community is thinking, N O. Just say no, that idea is incredibly stupid, we tried it in D1, and it worked really terribly over the long haul looking back. Seriously, did we all forget how rough D2 Year 1 was?
So, again, totally for revamping everything like stasis in terms of ability build, but PLEASE for the love of god, take some census of how much people hate the current stasis supers and the fact that how we have no other options makes so many folks not even touch their other characters with how central stasis is to all of the chores and high level activities this season on this artifact. I refuse to believe everyone at Bungie thinks this is even a good idea, much less a great one. I've yet to talk to any player who likes the idea wholesale. It is literally impossible there is that big a disconnect between the developers and the player base.

24 RepliesMaking nova warp viable in pve isn't going to make it more desirable over the other two options. Similarly it doesn't solve the problem that we have way too many add clearing supers that do more or less the same things. Trees "diversify" through neutral game. And that regardless of buffs from Bungie hasn't paid off in the years D2 has been out.
