Let’s Review: The Guardian’s Tomb

Firstly I’d like to start with the ghost we saw on it. A plain generalist shell of course, from this not much can be presumed. But the important detail is that the ghost was intact, meaning it wasn’t physically destroyed. From this we can assume either the Hive, Taken, Vex or a new enemy were our personal fatebringer, as for Cabal, Scorn and fallen to kill a guardian, they must destroy the ghost. Secondly is the setting, it appears atop a broken concrete plate. The rebar and snow suggest we lay in Old Russia or the Last City, while an argument could be made for EDZ, we’ve yet to see snow there. And it is not where our guardian arose, as there was no concrete plate there. Thirdly, the sword. Either made from the shatters of Bastion, or the sword be our final weapon. Not much can be told by it unfortunately. Fourthly, the decay of the surroundings. Considering the hundreds of titles we rack up, this tomb isn’t just thrown out in the wilderness. It’s somewhere close, and would be often visited. Decay such as exposed rebar indicates abandonment. From this a lot of theories can be made. And I’ll let you guys theorise.

  • "Shattered during the final confrontation..." Implying that the Darkness (if we assume for a moment that this is the big bad battle we fought in) makes it to earth, and furthermore, the EDZ. Or, if we stretch it just a tad bit further, the last city. This is, after all, where our hallowed traveler rests.

  • Also the ghost shell seemed to be the same color as the grave from what I remember, so the shell could be part of the actual tomb

  • I like how the emblem on the front is crooked. That's a neat little tidbit. Like it wasn't a part of the original tomb. It's taken off of something else and added to it.

      • Reverse "tomb", and you get "bomt." Add or remove a letter and you get "The children with no eyes did it"

      • If the rifleman shot Cayde instead of Sundance Cayde would have simply died on the spot. By killing Sundance they got him to die slowly.

      • The ghost shell being intact isnt an indicator of who "killed" us. Plenty of guardians died to hive, fallen and vex before Bungie, i mean the scorn came up with ghost killing bullets. Plus, guardians who had their light drained and then killed off(RW, facing Taken, etc.) The list is fairly long.

From this we can assume either the Hive, Taken, Vex or a new enemy were our personal fatebringer, as for Cabal, Scorn and fallen to kill a guardian, they must destroy the ghost.
It’s possible that the ghost was repaired before us being laid to rest. I believe the lore mentioned the sword shattering too.
Secondly is the setting, it appears atop a broken concrete plate. The rebar and snow suggest we lay in Old Russia or the Last City, while an argument could be made for EDZ, we’ve yet to see snow there. Either made from the shatters of Bastion, or the sword be our final weapon. Not much can be told by it unfortunately.
Saint has a ton of the swords around him in the tower that are the same. It’s likely that there’s no significance to the sword until we use it.
Fourthly, the decay of the surroundings. Considering the hundreds of titles we rack up, this tomb isn’t just thrown out in the wilderness. It’s somewhere close, and would be often visited. Decay such as exposed rebar indicates abandonment. From this a lot of theories can be made.
I don’t know if they would go into that much detail.

        • i imagine the grave is within the last city, and with our death came the death of humanity. seeing as this is pulled from a vex timeline, and in their successful future the vex effectively snuff out the sun, the snow would be reasonable due to the lack of heat on the surfaces of the planets in the solar system. the rebar indicates a modern area, and the way saint speaks implies that there is a crowd, so it was likely accessible by civilians. as for the shell and its intactness, i'd say, since its a vision from the vex, they were likely the ones to kill us, probably using a threat we have yet to see, based on how saint describes it. so, the vex manage to axe us, while we're using our favourite weapon (still not sure why that's bastion; if it was a shard of willbreaker that'd be way cooler and way more appropriate) and ghost manages to transmat out fresh corpse the hell out of wherever this place is. without us, the city falls, and the vex win. bad end.

              •
"I feel like something's invading my light!"-Ghost, as we near the pyramid.
I have a feeling that "they" can kill us at anytime "they" want.

                •
A plain generalist shell of course, from this not much can be presumed.
Just wanted to bring up the fact that, in Lore, “The Guardian” is too lazy to get a new shell for their Ghost. I mean, they have to have the numbers for it! They killed gods dammit!
But the important detail is that the ghost was intact, meaning it wasn’t physically destroyed.
Intact, and unscathed (from what I saw). Whatever killed us didn’t even need to attack our Ghost in any (physical) way, whatever it was must be able to easily drain Light......unless Bungo forgot to add scratches and stuff to the model.
