mountaintop quest is fricken impossible even doing it over the last two seasons
Obviously someone has it so it's not impossible but it sure feels that way. After hitting fabled running three launchers i'm not even at 30 of multikill over two seasons. This is just fricken ridiculously slow progress.
Worse launchers routinely do zero damage. I'm directly hitting people and the sheilds don't go down at all. Or the bullet just flies by their head or doesn't detonate at all. Or it detonates, and through the explosion comes a gun running at you utterly undamaged to had you a complimentary dust rock in the face.
i even tried to get on lfg last weekend for some apparent cheese in lockdown. over two hours not a single person responded to my post. I have fighting lion with the catalyst and i don't think it has a single kill over the last 5 games. I'm not even sure it's broken a shield. And if you use two normal ones you get 2 bullets. I mean how do you get multikills when nothing kills in one hit and you got two bullets? Enemies rarely group up anyways. I hate this quest with every fiber of my being. I've heard every "tip", "trick". That shit doesn't work for me. Two seasons and i'm at fricken 28% multikills. and 17% medals. I hate this.

Tether with Orpheus Rigs, long tether with dodge invis. Smoke grenade is a trap too. This tether is a trap and will not spring until time up or someone walks by. People think its an enemy and will walk into it. I plant one about half way on the map, somewhere someone has to clear a corner to see it and then get trapped. I hide behind another corner, and I come around the corner and hit them with Militias BIrthrite or Play of the game. Your super is back before that tether goes away, this is great for GL sprees of 3 kills in one life or more. For multi kills, use the tether on multiple guys at once. Kill one with a GL and you get credit for as many are tethered. Good for double/triple kills. Is this fast? No. Probably took me about 6 hours to get 40-50%. ALso just use grenade launchers all the time in PVP. My play of the game is basically a god roll, Blast radius Master work, volatile launch, Prox mines. This one has max blast radius plus easy mode prox mines, very good for one hit kills without tether.

For double kills, do either an empowering rift with breech-loaded grenade launchers and Luna boots to spam and hope for the best, or run Colony and Tether to spam wildly at people.

I used militias birthright with proxy nades b4 the nerf probably better with spike nades now, with a heavy play of the game or Connolly depending on the map. Just play slow don’t rush and try to get heavy. Did it in less then a week last season.

I did it in a week in quickplay while being at college for 12 hours a day (unable to play a lot basically) Warlock + seguine alchemy + empowering rift +legendary launcher + colony Seguine alchemy will let you see where people are through walls. Play around heavy, hog it as much as you can. Play slow, don’t rush. This method is easy mode, I wish I did it more when I was doing the quest.

#1 Militias birthright + fighting lion is good for calculating trajectory (3 killstreaks). #2 Play of the game with rampage, spike grenades and 30+ blast radius/50+ velocity is good for multikills. Only use #1 in control/clash. Get this done in comp BEFORE hitting fabled. Progress outside comp is way too slow, stick to comp.

Destiny three will be released before I get 1. I keep forgetting about it. I am maining a edge transit with a dope roll. I am more curious if I will get it naturally before d3, or will bungie just fix this quest. The requirements are absurd.

2 RepliesI've been stuck for weeks and I pretty much tanked my KDA , I guess that doesn't really matter since KDA is not used by bungie for anything. The lighting fast TTK now for most meta weapons in crucible is making it quite frustrating to stay alive long enough to hunt down and engage three opponents and the double kills require heavy or a spam. I suppose I'll have to wait for next season , so I can flounder around in comp at guardian rank, because trying to do it at heroic 2, 3 or Fabled would hurt my teammates who obviously are trying to win, and I don't want to drag other players down by not carrying my weight .. The only thing I think Bungie could do to help this , is make assists count for .5 or 1/2 so two assists would equal one kill in progression and you could play more back and conservative , getting 6 assists without dying would equal a calculated trajectory medal .. just my input

I’d recommend a rift with reloading. Use fighting lion XD spam grenades and profit

I used miltia’s birthright with ambitious assassin, fighting lion and Edge transit to get the kills for mountaintop on the preweek for black armory

I tried running triple GL, it sucked for me. I found I was better suited to running a primary + FL + Edge Transit, camp the heavy spawn then blast away. Think I have about 80% for multi + CT now

I have read every post here. Looks like only one person figured out the secret to finishing this quest, which is [spoiler][i]the colony.[/i][/spoiler] So yes, I have done it, this quest especially is a -blam!-, but at least let me tell you that you don’t have to worry about the ‘3 kills in a life’ requirement; you’ll have that done long before you get close to finishing the double kills requirement, which should be your main focus every time you do PvP. You will only want to do comp or 6v6. Only fire multiple shots of your secret grenade launcher when you know 2+ enemies are next to each other even if it kills you, and only fire multiple shots at a time. It is cumbersome, but don’t use 3 grenade launchers at a time; that’s a waste. In fact, don’t use any kinetic or energy Grenade launchers, they’re all garbage and waste of time and k/d. You always want heavy, and you always want to use it right. Good luck. This will still take you over a week of grinding. Try to have something else done at the same time, like a quest or triumph. If you are crazy, you can humour yourself that playing competitive will eventually let you get to legend rank, which it won’t with the current system.

When the weekly featured playlist is breakthrough (I think), search for 'mountaintop lobby' on the forums, only way to do it. I got lucky in comp one weekend and got it done, otherwise, I'd be right there with you...

I've been grinding for about four hours every day for the past week and I'm almost there. I just need 8% more for for calculated trajectory medals. This has been with getting heavy at least three times every match. To say the least it's made me hate grenade launchers and at this point I'm pretty sure I wont even use it out of PTSD.

Edited by Freak: 5/11/2019 7:06:13 PMI got MT and I do not have a MBR and have never used Fighting Lion. I do have over 1000 kills with my Edge Transit. So it possible. Very possible. And have never farmed or exploited the quest. It’s all from just QP and Comp.

Edited by W33DEDPLAGUE: 5/11/2019 6:53:46 AMThere are a few strats. If you have hunter, use tether and GL kills count for every person who is tethered. If on a warlock, use empowering rift and lunafaction boots for one shot kills with fighting lion and unlimited grenade spam. You can also (and honestly, this was the most effective for me when it comes to double kills), use colony and literally camp heavy, defend it with your life and make sure you pick it up. Then find at least 2 guardians together and spam the cap out of it. It's a slow process, took me 3 weeks of nothing but crucible and GL loadout, but it gets completed eventually. Keep your eye for when mayhem comes back and it makes it a bit easier at times. If it makes you feel better, this is by far the toughest grind in the game. Expect progress to be slow and just try to focus on staying alive and practicing with GL as much as you can. When it's over, it doesn't feel so bad and the gun is a lot of fun. I've been using a mountaintop/recluse combo a lot lately in pve and it's tons of fun.

1 ReplyTry using a different weapon, if you use somthing else to deal with situations a GL can't handle. If you keep dying it adds frustration and you lose focus. Definitely grind for a militias birthright with spike grenades or an orewings maul. Even high blast radius does a kill on a direct hit. I haven't got mountaintop yet but that's the only way I've made progress.
