Jotunn needs some changes

Bungie keeps nerfing some of our beloved weapons. Some of them we feel is justified. Some we wish Bungie hadn’t. With all the talk lately about weapons, especially pinnacle weapons in Crucible and the meta and discussions related to that.... we must talk about Jotunn. Jotunn is a cheese. Yes. We all must admit it to ourselves. Jotunn takes little to no skill to use, it tracks enemies, has basically unlimited range with little damage falloff, is a one hit kill, uses special ammo, if you have fusion rifle scavenger in one of your armor pieces, you’ll find out you basically have an unlimited supply of ammo, and is hard to detect because it isn’t nearly as loud as some other fusion rifles. People keep talking about how players should learn to just dodge from Jotunn. Well, I don’t believe players should have to go way out of their way for just this one weapon that too many players are using to cheese their way to the game. What happened to skill based playing? Sure, it’s fun to go into PvP with Jotunn and wreck but seriously, this is doing long term harm to the quality of PvP. You can be shooting your enemies and getting their crits and all that... then out of nowhere someone just comes in from the side or behind you and hits you with Jotunn and you basically didn’t even have a chance to hear the weapon charge and of course didn’t have time to counteract their attack because... it’s a one hit kill. I am not suggesting Jotunn has to go entirely. There’s some things that can be changed about it though.... these are separate recommendations so please don’t group them into one big recommendation where all of the changes apply. I should also note that I think the current charge time is justifiable and I think it should remain that way. 1.) To ensure players aren’t just “cheesing” PvP with Jotunn, the first thing Bungie can do is change it from being a special/energy weapon to becoming a heavy/power weapon. That way you’d have to wait for special ammo. Jotunn is already overpowered enough and has enough perks so that if this were to become a heavy weapon, it wouldn’t need much tweaking in terms of perks, magazine size, reserves, etc. 2.) Make it so that “scavenger” perks in armor do not give more than 1 extra round (if it were to remain a special weapon). 3.) Reduce range. This is a no brainer. (If it were to remain a special weapon). 4.) increase the sound detection to the extent of Telesto, Arbalest, Crooked Fang, etc. 5.) Reduce damage from the explosion after hitting it’s target. If you’re next to an ally that just got hit or if someone shot you but missed and hit somewhere next to you, you take a lot of damage just for being close to where the fire ball hit. (If it were to remain a special weapon). (Edit: Decrease the blast radius but keep direct impact damage). 6.) Decrease the size of the fire ball (if it were to remain a special weapon. (Edit: Decrease the blast radius but keep direct impact damage). (Edit: 5 and 6 are kind of the same thing. I think players should be rewarded for getting direct hits on targets. It’s the blast radius I was referring to. Direct impact damage is fair and competes with other fusion rifles with liquid coils or high impact frame fusions. It’s the blast radius that needs some tweaks so that players who do dodge the attack doesn’t take as much damage just from the blast radius. If a Jotunn fireball hits the ground or wall by you after you dodged, you will still take significant damage. This needs to be adjusted). I look at things long term... and based off of what I’ve been reading and hearing from other players in the community... the overall vibe is that Crucible is just broken. This was a problem before the Revelry, during, and I don’t think things will change after reset. Players are upset about many different things and I can tell you that Jotunn always comes up in conversation. People are getting tired of it if they aren’t exhausted already. It’s driving people away from PvP. One less player to match make with. Just keep in mind that if this keeps up at this rate, we will have to have a much more difficult discussion later on. Let’s try to restore some morale in the community, Bungie! We can all do it together! Just please take some time to listen to critical feedback from not just me but all of us.

You have only 2 special rounds from the jump of Crucible, and they're normally used for the noob that charges in. It's fairly easy to dodge it at distance. If you get vaporized at close quarters, a shotgun could've done you in just as easily. Jötunn was designed to be a beast after a VERY extensive grind. I personally have it in my load out. I feel like this:"Don't get salty because you got mapped by me... because I don't complain about shorty slide-shots, Antaeus reflections, Telesto leftover surprises, Arbalest headshots, etc. It's simple...get your game up, or find another mode. The weapon is fine. Your skill for adjustment (and hatin') has been found wanting😂

    • LMAO!!!!! The jotunn isn’t the problem, pvp is the problem!! Pvp needs to be separate from pve, pvp has done more harm to this game series, than anything else. This game doesn’t need nerfs, it needs pvp to be completely separate, with its OWN weapons. (Vanilla weapons, so pvp is about skill, not META’S)

    • So to fix a broken weapon you want to totally destroy it You are the classic example of why pvp shouldn’t have any influence on the sandbox

      • Empowered Crybabies as predicted, emboldened by their success nerfing LH and NF, now asking for more nerfs. So so predictable.

Am I the only one who thinks it's fine in PvP but a mite too strong in PvE?

      • Meh. I already feel like the weapon is RNG as is. Sometimes I hit them square in the body, sometimes if feels like I just shot between their legs, or under their armpit. It’s not very consistent in higher tier brackets because movement is so important in higher brackets. If your standing still, yeah, your gunna get bodied. Sure I die to joten. But I die far more to shotguns than it. Heak I die to more erentils then jotens. Sure you can get lucky and die to it consistently, but if you actually use the weapon, you find it is not consistent enough to be a high tier gun. And pay to win? Really? That’s not how that works.

        • No one wants to use jotuun in heavy. A nerf to a weapons slot placement is absurd.

This! While everyone was complaining about lunas and NF, all i was encountering in the crucible that was op (besides the bulls**t nade spam) was THIS weapon!, it's incredibly overpowered for 1 on 1 situations, which in the close nature of crucible it's nearly all the time.. It's uberly frustrating not being able to defend yourself against this when you are close to the other player.. and it isn't the same as with shotguns since with those you have to be really close, jotunn works at half distance just as well.. and 1 hit kill.. maybe if it didn't depleted your entire life, and made the user switch to another weapon to finish the job, it wouldn't be a problem, so you could avoid him or get wrecked because you were slow. On top of all of that, it's kind of a "pay to win" weapon, since you need the season pass to have it.. so it looks even more wrong to me. Either implement what i've said or i like the idea of it becoming a power weapon, since it already kind of is, just disguised as special..

          • Is that why you have LH on each character? Never too skilled? If Bungie drops me an 1kV, I will be using that all the time, you only need to aim half of the map and you will kill someone who is barely touching that half of the map.

            • Alright here is the thing with Jotünn. It punishes players that are not aware of their surroundings. If you are far away sniping and you cant see a flaming ball coming at you then that's on you. Now I will address some of your reasons. Moving it to heavy. If it moves to heavy then it would be out shadowed for other weapons for pve content. Armor perks. Half the time the perks for extra ammo dont event work. (My own experience) Sure make the sound more noticeable but nerfhearders will still cry nerf cause they died.

                • Bungie should make it so that you need to hold the crosshair over a person for a second to lock on ...otherwise it wont home in. Easiest fix ever and it wont ruin the gun for PvE

                • It’s literally one of the easiest things to dodge, trying to hit a shot at longer ranges barley works when the target is jumping and strafing.
