That’s the definition of cheesing. Using an alternate strategy to accomplish something extremely quickly, a strategy that requires little to no skill. CLUSTER BOMB STRAT IS A CHEESE. Get over it, it’s cool, don’t call a cow a cat because it doesn’t moo.

No? 1. Doesn’t one shot bosses, does a lot of damage but you can’t one phase any boss in the game with just one whisper. 2. The fact cluster bombs can one phase riven yet you can’t use whisper to do the same things goes against it. You’re reaching pretty far bud.

Bungie doesn't publish a guide of "Intended Mechanics" for raids, and the only reference any team has is what actually works in the game. In that sense the game is it's own rulebook. That lack of direction as to what the "proper" way to play is makes pretty much any strategy that works to be "legit". If some team did this and streamed this before the hard way of killing Riven was discovered would it be considered a cheese or just an easy raid encounter? If that first streamer had show this as the way to kill riven would people have even wondered if there were other more difficult ways of doing it? There's plenty of examples in Destiny 1 and 2 where quick decisive action up front taking out one key enemy pre-empts longer and more complicated fights or where one phasing an enemy results in a much simpler fight, or where using terrain and cover to your advantage makes fights easier. There's also plenty of instances of when Bungie didn't like people doing an encounter in a particular way that they've updated the game to disallow it.

It’s still a cheese. By definition, it’s a cheese. It’s a quick easy way to accomplish something that requires little to no skill. That is the definition of cheese, cluster bomb strat is a cheese. It’s legitimate by the fact that it works, I like to call it a legitimate cheese strat.

This is only because you have defined in your mind that the hard way is the proper way. Bungie in an interview fully expected that people would find better ways to do the raid over time and that it would become significantly easier as power levels increased. If this isn’t what they meant they will change the only published rule book AKA the game code to reflect that.

No bud, sitting in one room shooting rockets is way easier than having 3 people in 2 rooms. Dude, it’s a cheese. You guys sounds so stupid trying to call it an intended, difficult, method. “Dur hur dur it’s all in your brain. Uhh uhhh they didn’t give us an instruction book. We will know if and when they eliminate it. Until then it’s just your opinion that the best, most efficient method is too easy and offends your personal sense of how difficult the fight should be. There’s always been room in Destiny for people who want to do things the hard way like downing Crota with only no land beyond. If that’s what you are into then set up a team of like minded people and make up your own more restrictive rules for any encounter in the game. E.g is the jumping puzzle shortcut on the spindle mission in your mind a cheese? Always run the full one then. Was one phasing Aksis with swords and/or cluster bomb launchers a cheese? Don’t use them in the fight. Fast kills on any D1 strike boss with Gjallerhorn and spindle getting you down? Use only primaries or melee strike bosses to death for added challenge. Sleeper make Atheon too easy to one phase? Don’t use it. Tired of the fact that quickly killing the main boss in most D2 fights de-spawns all the adds? Well make it more challenging by killing all the adds first if that is how you feel it should be done. And the list could go on and on. Destiny is full of examples where fast application of DPS makes the fight much more manageable and skips some part of it that becomes harder if you let it get out of hand and trigger those extra mechanics. It’s more correct to think of those mechanics as an in game punishment for not finishing the fight quickly than the right way to do it.

No no no no no no. I don’t give a shit how hard the fight is. I don’t give a shit how people do the fight. I just laugh all the ridiculous argument saying how it’s not a cheese. Let me explain. Say you put all six people in one of the rooms to do the “non cheese” strat. Everybody has sleeper, sleeper does a hell of a lot more damage than a cluster rocket. It wouldn’t work. Use whisper, something that does a lot of damage, more than a cluster rocket. Can’t do it. Use any exotic heavy in the game or any heavy other than a cluster rocket and it won’t work. How is it that all of the most powerful guns in the game can’t achieve something a mere cluster bomb can? Cheese! You can defend it by saying there isn’t an instruction manual for the encounter, you can defend it by saying it all boils down to the perception of the player. It’s a cheese, no matter what you may think or say.

Everyone thought other weapons were a good choice for Aksis and did it as 2-3 phases until people discovered just how effective dark drinker was (and actually also cluster bomb rocket launchers although they were less effective than dark drinker and they never became the meta). They were effective precisely because they were AOE weapons used on a boss with a lot of parts that could be hit at once with one AOE hit or explosion. So that cluster bomb rockets can put a lot of damage into a raid boss is actually not new news. Enter Riven. A boss where a cluster rocket is vastly more effective at dealing damage than a wisper or a sleeper for exactly the same reason they were on Aksis. To your statement that wisper or sleeper do a lot more damage. In the case of this boss’s design you clearly couldn’t be more wrong. You seem to be getting hung up in the fact that because sleeper and spindle are very good most places that they would be the best choice everywhere. Sometimes you just need to give up on preconceptions as to what is good for one fight being good for all fights and use the right tool for the job.
