I like your first paragraph, but the high impact autos are good. The higher rof don't seem as good, except for one guy's scathelocke last night.
What seems to be the problem for me is the very large gap between headshot and body shot damage. HC and pulses just fire too slow outside of smg range to compete with scouts and ars. Inside of that range you have to not miss the head to even have a chance, so they're really outclassed at every range by multiple other weapon types.
I think I was single digits on the body with graviton Lance the other day. That's crazy for a gun that fires that slowly. You can't use that at range or close up. I was living the vanguard slow rof pulse rifle when d1 ended (can't remember the name). That wouldn't be even semi useful in this game.

Agreed, the gap is pretty big. And that’d be fine except for the fact that auto’s are so accurate and are dominating. I think body shot damage needs to be touched on

Vanguard hard hitting pulse was Parthian Shot. I believe. Mine usually dropped with good perks too: outlaw, feeding frenzy, counterbalance, glass half full, etc.

That was it. Even though it wasn't meta I that gun and could be pretty effective with it. Good luck using a similar gun in d2.
