I'm working on a written piece and I want it to be as canon as possible.
What happens if a Guardian goes rogue and commits a crime? What happens if that Guardian lies, cheats, steals, or even kills another Guardian? What are the laws and who enforces them? Is there any evidence of a system in place for this sort of thing? Or is it on a case by case basis?
We know not all Guardians are shining beacons of hope and good standing members of the community. Certain Guardians from the legends have been told to betray or even kill other Guardians. I believe there is canon lore behind Red Death, Thorn, and other exotics that talks about this.
I just want to make my writings as canon as possible and was hoping this strong community could help me with this.

Banishment, the speaker is kinda the Oprah of banishing. You get banished, and you get banished, you are all getting banished!

8 RepliesEdited by Xenomorph: 11/14/2017 12:45:46 AMWell... If my D1 post was anything to go by (9)...
I posted this in response to a thread that posed the question: "What would you do if tomorrow you woke as your Guardian". Funny how some of these things are still relevant.
Part 1: 1: Bang Rahool. 2: Punch the Queen in the face. 3: Sit down. Try to figure out how I messed those two things up. 4: Apologise to Rahool, then punch him in the face. 5: Apologise to the Queen. Bang her brother... No... Wait. 6: Apologise to her brother. Apologise to the Queen again. Bang the Queen (YES! Finally) 6: Huh? 7: Kill another Guardian and take their Vault space. 8: Get caught for killing another Guardian. 9: Get sent to the Prison of Elders. 10: Urrox makes me his b!tch... Oouuch. 11: Gradually impress the Warden... Yesssss? Win his trust. Assassinate him and escape. 12: Go to Mars to hide out (cos no-one ever goes there anymore). 13: Find a nice Cabal bride, settle down and raise half breed abominations that will one day turn on me and "try to take over the world".

9 RepliesWhat happens to guardians that want to become a hive god? Can they even become gods? Asking for my own story.

2 RepliesAny Guardian that commits a crime or does something dangerous is banished Lysander was banished for starting a war and trying to conquer the City, Toland was banished for practicing the ways of the Darkness, Osiris was banished (or maybe almost banished) for studying the ways of Darkness in a manner similar to Toland, and Dredgen Yor was banished for killing another Guardian This is enforced by the Vanguard and all Guardians under their command

When a guardian 1 kills another guardian 2 the ghost revives guardian 2 then guardian 2 goes and kills guardian 1 and proceeds to tbag him. Ghost then revives guardian 1 and he then goes to the forum to complain about guardian 2. Then guardian 2 finds his post and tells him git gud or stop playing. Guardian 1 then calls him an elitist fanboy prick. Guardian 2 then replies you filthy toxic casuals are ruining the game.

What? Lies: Cayde lies all the time. Everyone just laughs it off. Cheats: Guardians glitch calus and heavy ammo every day, never heard one complaint from the tower. Steals: Also pretty sure guardians own everything. People give you ships for no reason, and don't even get that mad if you keep them forever or destroy them. Hawthorne let me "borrow" a ship, and I immediately scrapped it for like 100 glimmer. Murders another guardian: ... the crucible is made exactly for that purpose. Guardians are immortal, so pretty sure if one murders another, they would laugh it off. I've pushed people off ledges, thrown objects into them, or given them "advice" that got them crushed, laughs all around. I find that immortals tend to stop giving -blam!-s in general, but on the off chance they do manage to somehow piss everyone off, probably banishment, or maybe even taking/destroying their ghost.

1 ReplyCame here looking for a punch line. Left disappointed.

3 RepliesIt’s only a crime to kill another guardian if you target and/or destroy their ghost as well.
-
3 RepliesPSA because I've seen it mentioned several times. Lying is not a punishable crime. It's not a crime period. If it was, 98% of hunters would be locked up.
-
That's the thing with immortality, murder is just a prank...
-
they'd be exiled probably.

3 RepliesIf we could respawn me and my friends would kill each other for fun. No crime if death isnt permanent.

2 RepliesWhat happens to a Guardian who commits a crime? He gets a "light" sentence. ;) Terrible I know.....

3 RepliesThis was actually something that happened quite a bit with the first guardians. They had power. They were practically immortal. And it went to the heads of a lot of them. And it didn’t really get sorted out until a group of morally inclined banded together and formed the iron lords. They were the first ones to establish the code of ethics that would latter serve to be the guidelines that the vanguard were built off of. Heck, two of Saladin’s first disciples were Shaxx and zhavala if I recall correctly. Anyway, the iron lords acted as a group, so as a result, they were able to take out these other less morally inclined early guardians, who likely either agreed to stop being dicks and fight for the greater good of everyone, or they were made an example of. Heck, their ghosts probably even left some of them at a point, since it seems to of been the case with dregden yor, where if you become enough of an ass, your ghost will just leave you to die. Hope this helps clear some stuff up.

They become crazy exotics!

Edited by RavenousLD3341: 11/14/2017 8:50:17 PMIf we follow the example of the concordat.... They are expelled from the city. I imagine what keeps them from coming back to raise hell is the vanguard, and all the other guardians protecting the city.

My guess is that guardians are not subject to citizen law. My guess is that guardians deal with each other for truly heinous crimes. We got to remember that fines and prison do the city more harm than good. We don't want to lock up a guardian when they can be fighting, and we really need them fighting. Exile and execution are likely the only punishments available to a guardian.
-
They usually get terminated. However, the only way to kill a guardian is to kill its ghost, and then the guardian itself (felwinter lore card)
-
1 ReplyWe do know that there was an order of guardians called the Peacekeepers, but they all died during the Red War. The Vanguard are probably the ones in charge of that type of thing now.
-
3 RepliesDepents where you are, if the guardian is outside the wall in the settlements then there is no law or group that watch for outlaws or criminals and justice is up to each group or person that is rulling the place akin to the wild west, examples are The warlords and the iron Lords during the dark age or the story of dredgen yor, jarren ward and shin malphur. If you are in the city then there are multiple groups that enforce the law of the city and try to maintain the peace and the order, mosly titans and their orders ie: the PeaceKeepers, but also the New monarchy, the consensum and the speaker, there are some special cases where guardians that enforce the laws have some jurisdiction ie: Shaxx and the crucible. In conclusion inside the city we have a goverment and a police force, outside the city there is no law and if the criminals are as powerfull as guardians then is up to fellow guardians to stop them.

4 RepliesSimply and concisely: we don't know. The only Guardian we know of that went bad was Rezyl Azir when he turned to the Darkness and became Dredgen Yor. He wasn't pursued by The City though, if even there was one at that time. He was put down by another Guardian, Shin Malphur, because Yor killed Malphur's teacher/adopted father, Jaren Ward. Yor died as a result of vendetta, not justice. Other guardians have been exiled, such as Osiris and Toland. I would argue they were exiled and not executed because they had not committed any actual crime, just that their personalities and interests were a threat to the security of the City. The only other information we have is in the pre-City days when the Iron Lords were going around freeing villages by converting and reforming Warlords, Risen who used their powers to set themselves up as despots, like mob bosses. Warlords who didn't submit and fought back, died (mainly because in fighting back they were actually trying to kill the Iron Lords, so it was a kind of self-defense on the Iron Lords' part). We know of 3 dead warlords by name. Citan, Segoth, and Reince. Citan's death is the most clear-cut we have, because the encounter between him and Felwinter is described in detail. In the end, Felwinter killed Citan, then waited for Citan's ghost to pop out and rez him. Felwinter blasted the ghost, then blasted Citan again, killing him permanently. So, taking those facts into account, I'd say you have license to write your fiction however you desire.
