Interesting Mind Trick
Not sure if this will work in text form but here it goes... don't reveal the spoiler until the previous steps are completed.

Scientists don't know why this happens, but they think it's because carrot is a six letter word and 16 ends in a 6.

Edit: Okay so only one person has said carrot so far, but that's just probably a coincidence. Everyone else has said something else or a fruit (why). I guess it doesn't work in text form. It has to be spoken aloud to have any effect. Well, this was a bust.
