*A Wild Gringo has appeared*
So if you haven't seen, Bungie makes a lot of strange weapon names and descriptions. Here are the explanations for some.
Badger CCL is "Badger Couldn't Care Less".
LDR 5001 is "Long Distance Relationship" plus "five hundred and 1" is just outside the average restraining order.
Telesto- Telesto is actually a moon of Saturn. The weapon was formed from a remnant of the Reef's weapon, the Harbringers. They were used against the Hive during the Battle at Saturn's Rings and destroyed Telesto in the process.
No Land Beyond- A Quote by a WWII Russian sniper
Gjallahorn- In Norse Mythology, the Gjallahorn was a horn blown to signal the beginning of the end of the world.
Another NitC- "Another Nail in the Coffin"
TFWPKY 1969- "The Fall Will Probably Kill You..."- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, made in 1969. The quote is completed with "..., but if that doesn't, the bullets surely will."
The Trolly Problem- A moral experiment of which you stand by and let more people get killed or go out of your way and only get one person killed.
Two to the Morgue- "They put one of ours in the hospital, we send one of theirs to the morgue."- The Untouchables

Two To The Morgue could have a different reference as well, judging by the flavor text "you know the old saying"
The saying has several variations of course, but the one I believe it means is "When you seek revenge, first dig two graves".
- TheFishE77
123 Syzygy- A reference to an astronomical phenomenon where celestial bodies align. Also it is a catastrophic event detailed in the Books of Sorrow.
The Devil You Know/ The Devil You Don't- "The Devil You Know is better than the Devil You Don't."
Against All Odds- The description is "Threat assessment calculates your odds of survival at 3,721:1...unless you pull this trigger." In The Empire Strikes Back, C3P0 says "Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately three thousand seven hundred and twenty to one."
Time On Target: TOT is a military term which means to fire all artillery at one target, at one time.
One Way Trip 000- 000 is Australia's "911". This means you're going to the hospital and not coming back.
Zero Point LotP- "Life of the Party!"
Up The Ante- A Poker reference. In the old days revolvers were common ways to settle gambling disputes, as this is a Handcannon.
Pax Totalus EPR8- Latin for "Total Peace". Which isn't a fitting name for something created for murder.
One/One Synesthete- Synesthete is when the brain connects two unconnected stimuli. Like you hear your car honk and think of the sweet taste of Maple Syrup
1000 Yard Stare- A blank stare a vet gets after experiencing emotionally traumatic events. (Insane1rish)
The Ram- A reference to a Dr. Who creature who was Ramlike and made people worship him.
Loner.Rebel-From Peewee's Big Adventure. "You don't want to get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner, Dottie. A rebel."
Loner, Dottie, rebel -> Loner Dot Rebel -> Loner.Rebel (Lootcifer)
Up For Anything- Its description, "Risk is its own reward" is a reference to Swiss Linguist, Ferdinand de Saussure. He was quoted saying, "Risk-taking brings its own reward: it keeps a continual agitation alive on the heart." This would tie into the name as, no matter what you do, you will gain purpose from it.
Zombie Apocalypse WF47- The WF seems to stand for "Wichita Falls", where a large Zombie Crawl takes place annually. I can't seem to find where the 47 comes in.
Eyasluna- Latin for "Hawk Moon." (Or Baby/Little Hawk Moon. I am getting conflicting responses)-PandaTaco, Powershelf, etc.
Hawksaw- A reference to Seattle Seahawks. Bungie has stated that they love the Seahawks (They are based in Washington) to the point where the Sunbreaker Hammer looks like a Seahawk (yes, they admitted this). The description, "A Northwestrly wind is blowing." Is an obvious remark that the Seahawks come from the American Southwest.
Hereafter- The description, "Huddled at the mountain's base, we had no choice but to beat our ploughshares into swords once more." is a reference to a part of The Bible, where farmers have to "Beat their ploughshares into swords" (meaning use their farming equipment as weapons for defense)
BTRD-345- "Be The Real Deal". Do that and you'll be "better than the rest." -KingGenius777
Apple of Discord- A reference to the Snow White tail. The name is representative of the magic apple Maleficent gave to Mrs. White. The description, "For the farest" is a reference to the fact that that Snow White was "farer" (prettier) of the two, and the apple was intentioned for her.
It seconds as the Apple of Discord from a Greek Myth. The story went that Eris (The goddess of Discord, not the Destiny character) had a contest to see which goddess was the most fare. Because she was the goddess of discord, or conflict, the threw the prize, The Apple of Discord, into the group causing a dispute between the Goddesses over who won which eventually led to the Trojan War.
Shadow Price- A Shadow Price is when an object has more value than originally apparent.-c111whelan999
Red Death- A reference to Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of The Red Death where a plague manifests itself as a living being to kill a noble and his staff.-Kongu2525
also
in the novel The Shining, the idea of the "Red Death" from Edgar Allen Poe was actually planted in the main character's mind which showed that he was going insane. The phrase "The Red Death held sway over all!" cropped up during his periods of insanity frequently.- Rickylumic 77
MIDA Multitool- MIDA: Martian Interplanetary Defense Alliance: Multi-Tool.
If bungie is sticking to it's Halo roots with the U.E.S.C Marathon.
Jade Rabbit- Several cultures have recognized a "Rabbit on the moon". The Chinese version, the Jade Rabbit, was seen pounding a mortar and pestle, creating the elixir of life which makes their gods immortal.-H111xPower
Three Little Words- a reference to the King Lionidas (Spartan King) statue. On the statue are three words "Come and take", which is rumored to be the King's response to the Persians demand that the Spartans lay down their weapons.- The Breezy Bree
Monte Carlo- Monte Carlo is a city in Monaco (south of France). It is a lush city based on gambling, and the name "Monte Carlo" has become "an international byword for the extravagant display and reckless dispersal of wealth"
The Comedian- A reference to the DC character, The Comedian, a member of the Watchmen group who carried around his lucky shotgun.- TheBrownieD2W
EVERY OMOLON WEAPON- Powershield
Thesan (Thesan FR4) was the Estruscan God of the dawn and divinity. The Flavour text pints this out:
"Hasten the DAWN with the new Omolon Thesan FR4."
Eirene (Eirene RR4) was the Greek god of peace and Spring. The flavour text says
"A new Golden age is on the horizon. With the Omolon Eirene RR4, you'll be the first to see it coming."
This, I believe, is saying about how a golden age means PEACE, and comes around like the season of Spring.
The Kumakatok (Kumakatok HC4) were basically 3 Philippine Grim reapers who knocked on your door and brought bad omens. This is referenced in the flavour text:
"When the Omolon Kumakatok HC4 comes KNOCKING, even the Darkness locks its doors."
Uffern (Uffern HC4) is Welsh for hell, as referenced in the flavour text:
"Omolon's Uffern HC4 sentences the City's enemies to BURN"
Susanoo it may make more sense to say it is Japanese as well as it being the Shinto God of storms and water. Flavour text says:
The fearsome STORMS of today become the healing WATERS of tomorrow.
Cocytus (Cocytus SR4) is the river of wailing and one of the 5 that surround the Greek underworld. Flavour text says:
"The Omolon Cocytus SR4 will DROWN your enemies in a RIVER of pain.
Tuonela (Tuonela SR4) is a Finnish hell. The flavour text says:
"Hell will freeze over before the Omolon Tuonela SR4 will fail you."
This is referencing how Tuonela is a hell yet Finalnd is very cold, hence it freezing over.
Uzume (Uzume RR4) is the Shinto God of revelry and the dawn.
They've already used dawn with the Thesan so they kinda just winged this one with the flavour text.
Tlaloc (Tlaloc) was a very important Aztec God, hence its exotic status-the supreme God of the rain and storms. The Flavour text says:
"Release the STORM. Hold nothing back."
So, now I've done all of the year 2 Omolon weapons. Does it stop there? No! The year 1 bikes follow the same pattern, but there are no special Flavour texts here.
Helios (Helios SR4) was the Greek personification of the Sun.
The Yamaduta (Bronzed Yamaduta SR4/Primed Yamaduta S4) are Hindu messengers of death, basically Grim Reapers again.
Eos (Silvered Eos SR4) is the Greek personification of the dawn.
Sorg (Painted Sorg SR5) sadly, draws up a blank. However, it could be an abbreviation is Sorginak, assistants to the goddess Mari or witches in Basque mythology.
Abaddon (Painted Abaddon SR5) is either a Hebrew Bible bottomless pit, or the name of an angel from the Bible who controls a swarm of locusts.
Kin (Silvered Kin SR5) also shows nothing but is probably short for Ah Kin, a Mayan Sun-God.
Sorry but we ran out of room

The cloak "Squid Pro Quo" is an alteration of the Latin phrase "quid pro quo", meaning "one thing for another in return", or "one for one". So, basically Pahanin wanted to give one thing for a squid in return, I guess, lol!

The Seahawks are in the Northwest

One of the Titans rare chest pieces has the quote: "No father should have to burry their child." I hope that's a reference to my favourite movie....
LORD OF THE RINGS HAHAHAH!
3 RepliesActually LDR is "Light Dependant Resistor". Sorry to be a party pooper.

1 ReplyPlan c taken straight from the urban dictionary A Plan C basically involves systematically killing every living thing in the general area. Doing so will allow you to loot area and its dead residents for a fair amount of income. Generally a quite difficult action, it is best if you are some what skilled before attempting a Plan C. REMEMBER: Plan C is not about killing everone, its about killing everyone so you can take all their stuff after. i saved the town from the raider attacks so that i could Plan C the town myself and take all their shit.

4 RepliesFound this on reddit, probably not it but I thought it was hilarious (Posted by IAmTheMasterVader): IAmTheMasterVader: "So a couple hours ago, I got up on my thinking chair and really, reallllly started to ponder what on Earth our beloved BTRD-345 really stood for, and I am proud to announce to the Destiny community that the riddle of the mighty BTRD-345 has been unriddleded! Grab your Gjallarthorns guardians; we're going down the rabbit hole. BTRD-345 "Better than the rest." As the great Lao Tzu once said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one Google search.", so I hit up Google and they returned to me this website. What better place to find the meaning of an acronym, than an acronym search engine! I quickly slapped "BTRD" into the search bar, and pressed enter. She returned just one result, and its words burned into my eyes as I stared down the first half of our riddle's solution: Bitchslap Ted Rall Day. "Who is Ted Rall? Why is he being bitchslapped, and WHY is there a whole day dedicated to it?", I thought as I googled Mr. Rall. Per WikiLeaks, "Frederick Theodore "Ted" Rall III (born August 26, 1963) is an American columnist, syndicated editorial cartoonist, and author." Cartoonist, eh? Perhaps one of his cartoons had rubbed someone the wrong way, so that explains the bitchslapping filled day know as BTRD. What it doesn't explain is the 345. "Three hundred forty-five...three hundred forty-five...", I thought as I took a long sip from my apple juice. I ran searches on the number and discovered that it was in fact an odd number that was both an interstate and area code. Running searches for "345" on other search engines returned the same, and I was about to throw in the towel when it hit me. 345 is a day of the year! In fact it is December 11th! Hurriedly I scrambled to Ted Rall's website and searched his archive for any cartoon's that he released on December 11th. Sure enough, on December 11th, 2014 there was a cartoon released, but drawing parallels to our BTRD-345 from this would be a stretch considering that Bungie had been working on Destiny and the BTRD-345 since 2009...wait...2009... Yes, 2009! The year Halo: ODST released! But more importantly this! This was the first ever hint of Destiny given by Bungie, and it happened in 2009! I quickly zoomed ahead, year by year, through Mr. Rall's works on December 11th. 2013? Nada. 2012? Nope. 2011 and '10? Negative. 2009? You're goddamn right guardian! He had a cartoon released on December 11th, 2009! This was the comic, and this was my brain afterwards. Don't you see guardians? BTRD-345 "Better than the rest." "Better than the rest." BETTER THAN THE REST. The Christmas was the best ever, because it was BETTER. THAN. THE. REST. BTRD: Bitch Slap Ted Rall Day Day: 345 Day 345: December 11th December 11th, 2009: Best Christmas Ever, it was better than the rest! 2009: Destiny started being developed! Destiny was going to be better than the rest! BTRD-345: Better than the rest! IT. HAS. BEEN. SHOWN." Gotta give this guy credit, he knows how to make people laugh.

30 RepliesBad Juju: a slang term meaning, harmful magical power attributed to something or someone. Works well for this weapon because its inherent traits let you summon magic to continue killing all that you see. Black Spindle: a spindle is, a rod or pin serving as an axis that revolves or on which something revolves. The color black in mythology traditionally signals death. I would interpret this as meaning that death revolves around this weapon, or this weapon is the axis for death. Hung Jury SR4: In the event of a hung jury (in a legal sense) a mistrial is declared. In a mistrial, the defendant is not convicted, but neither is the defendant acquitted. This could serve as a reference to the judicial system and that idea that a mistrial (when public opinion may paint the offender as guilty) other means of carrying out punishment may be necessary (hence a gun) Glass Promontory: a promontory is a point of high land that juts out into a large body of water. So a glass promontory would allow you to see both out and around yourself. Perfect for a sniper which is all about ranged warfare Stillpiercer: A piercer is (obviously) someone who does piercings. So most likely that person would want someone to remain still while they work. The same would go for someone using a sniper rifle. A moving target is much harder to hit than a stationary one Corrective Measure: A corrective measure is an action taken by a person or other entity to prevent non-conformity or other undesirable situations. As far as a machine gun would go, you would have to take corrective measures for things like recoil in order to continue hitting your target. Ruin Wake: With a heavy machine gun all that you leave in your wake is ruin and destruction The Unseeing Eye: James Patterson wrote a book called The Unseeing Eye: The Myth of Television Power In National Elections which dealt with the way that the 1972 American Presidential election was covered in television news media. Ultimately they determined that the media spent more time dealing with the antics of both candidates and not what their stances were on political issues. This meant that the voter base was not swayed one way or the other based upon where the candidates stood on the issues; but rather what ridiculous things that had done while in power. Most like this weapon is merely a reference to the eyes of people we see on tv that look at, but cannot see, us. I just thought the book reference was interesting in its own right The Revelator: A revelator is one who reveals (used mostly to refer to someone who reveals the will of God). A weapon kills, thus revealing God to it's victim through death. Saterienne Rapier: A rapier is a sword chiefly used for thrusting and stabbing. I couldn't find much for "saterienne" other than a possibility that "sater" could refer to the greek Satyr (half man half goat) and possibly this could be the sword of the goat man. Now, in many references, Satan is depicted as some time of half man half goat. So possibly this could be a reference to some kind of sword of satan--really just a weapon of total death and destruction Red Spectre: In James Bond filmography SPECTRE is an elite criminal organization bent of destroying the world (because really what Bond villains don't want that). Likely this could be a mild reference to this organization and a cross back to Red Death (red spectre is said to be a red death prototype). Again just dealing with death and destruction Tao Hua Yuan: Is a area chiefly used for viewing the peach blossoms in the spring in Hunan China. Flavor text on this weapons says
one day, the flowers will grow again
possibly a reference to the fall of the golden age of man in Destiny and hope that humanity will return to its glory and the flowers will bloom again Gozen C: A "gozen" in japanese is a female warrior. This could simply be a reference to our female guardians out there. Rude Awakening DOA: A rude awakening could be several things. But because this is a shotgun and it is followed by DOA (dead on arrival) I would assume this has to do with a person being killed in their sleep with a shotgun (something the mafia and cartels are known for) Burden of Proof XI: In a court of law it is on the prosecution to show a burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt to prove someone's guilt. It's possible that the "XI" refers to eleven members of the jury. There are twelve in total so I'm not sure if that is a necessarily accurate reference but it's possible Treads Upon Stars: (This one is somewhat of a stretch) there was an Oglala Lakota woman who killed two of General Custer's soldiers at the battle of Little Big Horn by clubbing them to death. She was a scout (and the wife) for one of the leaders of the Lakota warband at Little Big Horn

1 ReplyDid a Google research on Zhalo Supercell and found this Zhalo is a Russian word meaning sting/ stinger A supercell is a thunderstorm that is characterized by the presence of a mesocyclone: a deep, persistently rotating updraft.[1] For this reason, these storms are sometimes referred to as rotating thunderstorms.[2] Of the four classifications of thunderstorms (supercell, squall line, multi-cell, and single-cell), supercells are the overall least common and have the potential to be the most severe. I think the combined translation and meaning of the name is : Thunderstorm Stinger!

1 ReplyThat explanation of the Hawksaw is incorrect. It's definitely a reference to a quote from Hamlet:
"I am but mad north-north-west. When the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw."
Hence when the wind is northwesterly, the speaker is a bit crazy and might confuse the hawk and the handsaw into a "hawksaw."

1 ReplyAll omolon guns reference different mythologies of death Tuolnela sr4: Finnish underworld Cocytus: One of the five rivers of hades. The river of wailing. Kumakatok: An omen of death in the Philippines. When three robed figures knocked on your door in the night death would follow. Uffern: The celtic otherworld or in plainer terms hell.
-
2 RepliesHawksaw is also a reference to a Shakespeare line. I believe it was Hamlet.. "I am but mad north-north-west. When the wind is southerly, I know a hawk from a handsaw." Now, I'm a huge football fan and I definitely believe Bungie is also referencing the Seahawks with this gun as well (the crucible color scheme is all Seahawks colors anyways). I'm just saying if you didn't know, there is a Shakespeare riff for the Hawksaw as well.
