Fireteam X: Book 5, Chapter 1: Black Shield

Episode 1: Black Shield Dredgen surveyed the communications room of Black Shield. The Centurion who had been guarding it was disposed of, his body hidden behind a control panel. Toland buzzed in. "Dredgen, the file you're looking for is encrypted, three layers of firewalls. I can crack through, but I need you to locate where it is first." "Let me get this straight, i'm breaking into a high risk enemy facility, killing security, breaking into their computers, all so I can find another file in the same facility?" Dredgen paused. "Yeah." Toland replied. "Ok," Dredgen shrugged, resuming his work "as long as it works, I don't give a damn." "Alright, be careful you don't trip the silent- oh Crap, activity just lit up in your sector, their coming for you!" "Just one more second, almost got it." Dredgen muttered. "No time! Get out now Dredgen!" Dredgen cursed and abandoned the terminal. Glancing around, he noticed a duct. He blinked through a nearby air duct as the door opened, and a host of cabal looked around in confusion. _______________________________________ Dredgen blinked into the service corrider that they were using as a base. Toland immediately blinked in behind him, straight through a wall. They both looked around in confusion. "Where's Kabr?" The wall behind Toland was immediately pulverized, throwing up a cloud of dust. As the dust settled, Kabr brushed himself off, shaking his head. "One day, soon. You warlock's are gonna teach us titans how to blink. Seriously, it's not funny anymore." "What did you find out?" Toland asked. Kabr shook his head, "Valus Trau'ug's army, the Broken Legion, is bigger than any force of Cabal seen to date. But that's not all, he seems to be very interested in Vex artifacts, I saw a few on my way back here." "Interesting," Toland mused. "Osiris research mentioned that Trau'ug was obsessed with certain types of artifacts, specifically their warp gates." "Then why is he on Black Shield?" Dredgen asked. "If he's obsessed with these gates, why is he stationed on a world where the Vex haven't even come into contact with?" "Good question, but we'll burn that bridge when we get to it," Toland pulled his datapad out of his pack. "Give me the file." Dredgen tossed the key to Toland, who immediately began decoding. "Alright, looks like this files gonna be somewhere harder to break into then some service terminal." "Where is it?" Dredgen sighed. "Trau'ug's personal terminal, in the command room." he glanced at Dredgen, who sighed. "I never catch a break, now do I?" _______________________________________ To be continued...
