(or delayed Raid gamble)
To be honest, HoW is the last chance for them to get it right. A lot of people are only getting it because they bought the season pass. Myself included.
If HoW fails that's 3 strikes against Bungie.
1. Game released with a plague of problems:
Next to no story, an RNG loot system that leaves even the most dedicated and skilled gamers struggling to get the items they need/want and the crushed expectations of millions who expected a MUCH bigger game. To name but a few.
2. The Dark Below Releases with yet more disappointment:
Promise of more story which didn't answer anything brought to us by the initial games missions and instead had us chasing Omnigul across Russia, A Raid that is essentially a Strike but with a few bridge building sections instead of Dinklebot Doors, completely rendered the VoG Raid obsolete by introducing VENDOR gear that outranks it while also screwing over the players who levelled up their exotics previously by saying 'if you want it to matter, do it again'
3rd Strike: HoW releases with NO Raid despite Raids being the most popular activity for PvE players in Destiny.
Trials of Osiris is aimed at PvP players and contains endgame gear for them to obtain while
The Arena is for PvE players and has had no mention of endgame rewards. This caters towards PvP gamers again while all but ignoring the PvE gamers again despite what they've been doing since October with monthly Iron Banners and no sign of a PvE event ever coming back.
So yeah, it's a gamble. It really is make or break with HoW. Because if they screw this up, Destiny dies. It is on life support right now because people have already paid for this pack, and some of them have already announced their departure because there appears to be no Raid.
EDIT: Keep responding Guardians, I will respond when I can. In the meantime, it's currently 0645am here in bonny scotland, so goodnight (more like good morning) and if I haven't responded yet, don't fret. I intend to rectify that after I sleep!!!
EDIT2: Back to bed again. Will respond later. Goodnight and keep discussing :D

I've already moved to scholar of the first sin. It's so much better in my opinion

5 RepliesAccording to this, The community would rather have the Arena than a New raid
-
1 ReplyPretty much my response to this entire decision. The community is hanging on by a hair and introducing an entire new mechanic out of no where to the game that could either make or break their progress is just a poor, and risky choice. It all comes down to pretty much the arena and how much is convinces players that there is still hope in the future.
-
6 RepliesYou make some good points but the only problem is this isn't really a gamble for Bungie due to the fact that most players purchased the season pass so are stuck with whatever Bungie gives us.
-
Bump,PvP is nice, but I was led to believe these things would be added bonus, not take up our whole DLC...
-
3 RepliesIf they don't implement optional matchmaking for everything in how I'm done spending money on destiny. The lack of a raid doesn't bother me.
-
7 RepliesLast chance? You act like this is a 5 year old dying franchise
-
Agreed. This is make or break. There is already a serious drop in regular players. I've been saying this since before they gave us the details of HoW. No story. Lack of content. Failure to deliver on what's been promised ...and now a gamble on delaying the raid and giving us the Prison of Elders. Time to put up or season pass holders and other regular players will be gone. Any good will Bungie had from creating Halo will be gone and its doubtful these players will ever buy their product again.

93 Replies"Despite raids being the most popular activity" umm...only 19% of Destiny players have ever completed a raid..it's obviously not that popular..
-
Big disappointment no raid, pvp is total crap so not arsed about that content but hoping the arena offers sum thing different because this game really is starting to get boring and if they try to charge for next raid I probably will not buy it
-
1 ReplyI'm optimistic, I enjoyed DB despite what everyone else thought. I just hope the arena is good.

Edited by vitisku1: 4/19/2015 1:02:38 PMThe end game gear issue is really bothering me. We know about the Trials of Osiris gear. With that plus iron banner gear that's 2 completely different sets of PvP endgame gear available. Let's also not forget that its far more feasible for PvP players to earn raid gear then for pve players to earn osiris gear. Surely, surely, there will be endgame gear for prison of elders. But it worries me that there has been no mention of it. Edit: I've never said this before on the forum, or ever even thought about it. But if they snub PvE players with the exclusion of end game gear from HoW I genuinely think that will be the end of it for me.

3 RepliesThere has been no confirmation that the pvp gear will be endgame you artard.

1 ReplyIGN said the raid should be free with the purchase of HOW whenever the raid releases Destiny: Does Bungie Owe Us a Free Raid? - Fireteam Chat http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/04/18/destiny-does-bungie-owe-us-a-free-raid-fireteam-chat

2 RepliesBtw why are we even killing Atheon or Crota?
-
1 ReplyUhm, what do you mean there has been no mention of the prison of elders yeilding endgame gear? The first thing said about it was "End game activity"
-
Well said, bump!
-
5 RepliesDone with this BS I'll play how cos I've paid for it in advance But after that....see ya!!
-
2 RepliesRaids being the most popular activity in PvE??? Check your facts man. Only about 20% of players FINISH a raid. :/ Not a good way to make your point

3 RepliesThe real reason there's no raid.. https://www.bungie.net/en-US/AboutUs#page=careers&job=12038

If the pve horde mode is as good as the original GoW mode it will be a blast until Comet. I'd rank up 99 levels/gear of that in Destiny.

Yeah, I already paid for HoW so I'll check it out, but honestly I don't see there being enough content to keep me interested for long, been taking a break from destiny lately and playing neverwinter, hoping that waiting until the dlc comes out to start up again will help. I'm holding off judgement about the dlc until I see more about it, though not having a raid was a big disappointment since that's really all I've been doing for a while in the game.

I don't know about this Bungie being on life support claim. I still play pretty regularly while still seeing the same group of people in my friends list still playing regularly. I rarely see the social tower at less than half of its capacity, and whenever I do an activity (strikes mostly) where other guardians are found to fill your fire team, it doesn't take forever due to a lack of guardians out there. Every post I've read about HoWs lack of raid by one complainer who insists that because of this decision is walking away from Destiny is filled with all the other guardians who voice their excitement over HoW and usually one or two who tells the poster good riddance to the spoiled gamer who feels their owed a raid...I feel destiny is still thriving, and bungie must be something right....oh yeah they created a game that despite its obvious faults is still extremely fun and replayable

I agree, HOW is their last chance to get me re-invigorated for this game. I've been gone a month, hoping maybe that they'd hold an event I actually cared to participate in (nope, just same old iron banner crap). All the changes they've made are ok, but fixing heavy ammo or adding vault space isn't enough to make me jump for joy and care to come back. Unless HOW provides a ton more content (and I'm talking substantial, more than half a dozen new missions), it'll probably be the official end of the road for me... Which is unfortunate, this game really could have been something else...
