@DeeJ
You've seen a countless amount of these threads, I get it. You are definitely doing your best to communicate with us, but we need you and the rest of Bungie to come down to our level and let us know some things and answer some questions caused by the recent information leaks.
Before I get started I would like to say thank you to you and Bungie for delivering a beautiful game. It's extremely polished and the gameplay mechanics are unbelievably fun. The Vault of Glass is absolutely genius and the most fun I have had in a video game in years. I don't care about matchmaking for it, as it should be intended to make players want to gather a solid team and work together for a long amount of time, matchmaking for it wouldn't be ideal at all.
Moving on.
You've called the poster on Reddit's AMA a "troll". I'm sorry, but the community doesn't believe that. Looking at the first ViDoc for Destiny, the information from the supposed tester and the answers from 404 Architect, we can only logically come to the conclusion that some, if not all the things said were in fact true.
I don't care about DLC information, or the "placeholders" showing up over last weekend like some of us here, as I can't wait to do them and will be purchasing them as soon as possible. I do however care about what has obviously been gutted from story-related missions and the campaign itself.
First of all, after reading everything that has come to light involving the missing or cut content, it seems to be a hilarious slap in the face that the Stranger tells us that "I don't even have time to explain why I don't have time to explain", or that the Speaker tells us something along the lines of "I'm sure you have many questions, but we need you on the battlefield."
My biggest problem has to do with the Factions. Why are they even there in the first place? Supposedly they originally were intended to have their own side quests or story lines that either did or didn't have anything to do with the story. If that portion was cut, why are they even there at all? And if the plan is to expand on them during DLC, again why have them in the game at launch?
Why is it that we are given little-to-no explanation as to what is actually going on in the story? Admittedly, I'm not the type to buy a video game for it's story, but you guys advertised this as a space epic/opera with MMO elements and that is what sold me. So, why have you decided to leave us with about three and a half cutscenes that leave us to try and make our own assumptions as to what is going on?
Where is this "Crow" character that was obviously planned to be a main character in this campaign, as not only evidenced by the "tester", but in your ViDoc as well? If you scrapped him for the Stranger, then what was our character's motivations to believe her? Or what does the Speaker think of her and her group that we have not seen? She speaks of different sides, and she does not have a Ghost, but in the end it seems that her and the Speaker have similar goals? And if that is the case, then why are they never seen together and why does the Stranger feel the need to stay at a distance from you in the beginning of the game?
Alright, I'll believe that you may be planning on expanding on this aspect of the story later in the game, but things don't add up as they are now. Little things stick out, things as simple as your Awoken character having no idea who the Awoken are or what they've been through, to details like your ghost telling you that it was going to report to the Speaker about the things the FWC are having you collect.
Why is it that in the beginning of the game we have environmental hazards like trip mines and enemies crawling on the walls but nothing like that is ever seen again? There is literally almost no difference in playing a strike and playing a Firefight on Halo: ODST. Where is the creativity in the later battles? Or any creativity or diversity in the daily bounties? It seems rushed, if it was, then say so.
I think I speak for the community when I say that if things were intended to be different; then just say it. Let us know if the great team at Bungie are planning on rectifying story elements or if this is what we get.
Voice chat in matchmaking, proximity chat for the tower or on the planets and smaller things like that are no problem, we know that you can take care of these issues with minor patches and updates, but the damage to all of the story and side story elements has been done. If nothing is true within these recent leaks, you have to know that the seed of curiosity has already been planted in even your most loyal players. It needs to be addressed and not written off as a simple troll.
I also want to know if you ever plan on implementing anything to do with these clans we have been creating. Are you planning on adding a playlist specifically for clans? If not, then are you ever going to think about letting us have a customizable lobby so that we can set up our own clan battles? And if not that, then again I ask why give us these features outside of knocking out a couple of achievements? You're renown for what you did with this type of gaming in Halo, so why get rid of what you did incredibly right?
Finally, I'll end with saying that you at Bungie have created a hell of a prologue to what could have been, or could be, a masterpiece of a game. It's just obvious that what you originally intended isn't what we are playing. There are too many inconsistencies and too much evidence to believe everything that has come to light in the recent days is simply fabricated. Let us know what is going on, and if, when and how you all plan to move forward.
Thank you to all that read through this enormous post, I am aware that some people may have harsh words for me appearing as a whiner, but in my defense I will say that I have not had a single issue with the game until this bomb of information was dropped on us over the past weekend. It's a great game, I love playing it with my friends and it has entertained me for countless hours, I just believe that this great game could have been absolutely incredible.
I still have hope that it can be.
Sincerely,
A loyal Bungie gamer for eight years,
Schuyler B. (GT: Scheezy)

Thanks Sheezy. Im in complete agreement. I still love this game and I hope that it can get fleshed out. I just thing that Bungie needs to do some damage control. I will be purchasing the season pass (xbox) for the additional content releases but I think that maybe Bungie could use some of the proceeds from the incredibly large number of copies sold initially to "fix" the game and add that content back in somehow. As it seems that a lot of people who bought the game on speculation of something spectacular did not get what they paid for. So give it to them. Ill still buy the DLC after that regardless I just think it might make up for all the people that feel cheated. If they had waited for the reviews and that post by the architect they would probably not have gotten as many sales. They lucked out so do the responsible thing, fix it and dont charge us to fix an incomplete game. Aside from that I am satisfied with the game and sincerely hope for a legacy of content for this game. ~M

Edited by Executioner423: 10/1/2014 7:24:38 PM@ Scheezy ^ This This is what Bungie will listen to, these types of concise, well thought out, and constructive criticisms. I want to congratulate you sir on bringing back some faith to humanity that is miles and miles apart from the other raging butt hurt posts that are just quite simply incessant whining by immature brats who need to get their priorities in order and have far too much time on their hands. Well done sir, well done. This kind of post is something that will get recognition.

I can't like this post enough. You put my constricted, bunched-up thoughts into a coherent and logical..well, I kinda want to call it an essay XD Anywho, this. So. Much. This.
-
2 RepliesI wonder if DeeJ or anyone at Bungie reads these things, if not they need to because this sums up every single thought that I have had about this game. I really hope that the people at Bungie address this post soon and tell us what happened and what will happen, if they don't they will probably lose a lot of money on DLC and future games.
-
I actually just bothered to look through the Grimoire cards for the first time. It is clear that other things were intended but then cut out. To be honest I would expect nothing less from the money hungry, quantity driven Activision. You made a deal with the devil Bungie. I hope you can still make great games because if Call Of Duty has any relevence it is going downhill.

1 ReplyEdited by TheSilentTiger: 10/2/2014 6:56:25 AMI understand that bungie wants to keep secrets so they don't spoil surprises for us that may already be planned in the future. But for real, just be honest and tell you're loyal fans that you claim to care about so much, the straight up truth and stop being cowards behind your big bags of money. Be open and talk back to your community and stop trying to make the game that you want to make, but start fixing destiny and make it the game that we want.

1 ReplyEdited by Timerider: 10/2/2014 4:55:53 AMI like this. I was really looking forward to the story and lore of the game, because Bungie has a record at being pretty damn good about that (I read all the Halo novels), but there isn't much here. What is here is vague to the point where it seems like they just couldn't think of any actual details. At the end,
it seemed like the Vex were the only thing that mattered. The Fallen, Cabal, Hive were inconsequential. Why were they even here?
There are a number of places in the game that are locked off but can be accessed through glitches even in the beta. Is this more story content that just has a timed lock on it? One of the problems with DLC is it rarely extends the story directly because it's technically optional.

Great job on a well written post with legitimate questions and concerns. I personally really enjoy the game and am really anxious to see what it can potentially (and hopefully) become but there has always been a gnawing sense of emptiness throughout the time I've spent with Destiny. Bump

this is a great post, Destiny doesn't even resemble what they sold us on in their vid docs.they said make a world that people want to be in, enough variety that you never get bored, it is quite disappointing, specially from bungie, and Deej, the snake oil salesmen once he gets your money he is never seen again. 6 RepliesEdited by Titan Uranus: 10/1/2014 4:16:26 PMDeeJ doesnt have time to explain. He doesnt even have time to explain why he doesnt have time to explain. He sure responds to a lot of troll threads though. His job is to manage the communtiy, but you barely see a few peeps a week from him, and literally no engagement. He sure pops up fast for leaked info and stuff though. I think hes actually damage control, considering i dont see anybody managing this community. Edit: And its been this way for years, so dont give me the whole busy from launch speech. I have PMs, DMs, messages and tweets from many many different developers who always respond to my thoughts/concerns/questions. Bungie is far too high on their horse to care for individuality. Only whoever is crying the loudest.

Edited by Construct Zero: 10/2/2014 5:27:47 AMI'll bump and post a snide response too! First off they don't care we were all sold a turd with the use of magic marketing (illusions and trickery) this turd came without smell, color, and fiber. Why I bought Destiny! Epic Story Raids Epic loot Exploration Space magic What I was sold! A few useless unskipable cutscenes that have no info in them. While the raid is the only thing going for them, it's full of bugs. Sound cut outs and never ending raid timer. Loot is far from epic and too easy for anyone to get. PVP should not reward any gear above good blues. This game was designed and marketed to be solid PVE with friends and PVP on the side! All I see is forced PVP and a huge focus on getting us to play the crapfest of all online fps. Nothing to explore too much content walled off. I've been to 3 areas you're not supposed to be in yet, kinda sad they didn't even fix the bugs we reported in the Alpha and Beta. I got that space turd that came from the moon! TL;DR I'm as salty as the Dead Sea and how much content was cut removed skipped. Just watch the videos. We were shown an epic magic show. I know now why the writer and music director left. All their hard work was cut for what?

I was beyond excited when I heard about this game a year ago. Finally, something that can replace Call of Duty(for me at least). I had to use my vacation time by October so I decided to take the week of Destiny's launch off. I hit 20 by the end of day two. Its just gotten so bland and repetitive. This game could've been the greatest ever. Instead we're left with the hollow shell of what could've been. The Queen's Wrath was just awful. The only redeeming aspect was the shards you got from breaking the armor down, which got patched almost immediately. I really do hope that deej gets the opportunity to explain some of this, but I'm not expecting him to. Its a business. As long as it still sells they'll keep doing what they want.

Edited by CHlPPPY: 10/2/2014 12:24:01 PM
Why is it that in the beginning of the game we have environmental hazards like trip mines and enemies crawling on the walls but nothing like that is ever seen again?
I pointed this out before. The game could definitely done with more environmental interaction. We have no way to verify whether 404's information is correct at this point, it's all just speculation, but given the embarrassingly low lack of content, I would say, yeah, it probably is true, either that, or someone at Bungie misplaced half the production money. I think it's obvious to anyone that the game does not feel like a game that's had millions thrown at it, visually and control-wise it does, but as for the content, there's nothing there. Deep down, those of us who are honest with ourselves know what has happened; content has been stripped out the game and will be drip-fed to players. Of course Bungie or Activision will never admit this, but to me, that's the only reasonable explanation for the lack of content, undersold story, and disparity between information players were fed long before the release and the finished product (i.e. Queen's brother being one example). I don't think we can blame Bungie here, I'm sure Activision heavily influenced the direction the game took (perhaps explaining why a number of developers were fired and quit during the game's development), but at the same time, I don't think I could blame Activision either. They are only doing what any corporation does: trying to maximise profits. Sure Destiny could have done with more content, but there's a reason why so many people are still playing it despite deriding it here: it's a solid game, and with more content, like Halo, it could have even been epochal.

A well stated, clear, and appropriate post. One which I mostly agree with. Those complaining about voicing your opinions are either PvP kids whom are happy that the story and campaign are extremely disengaging, to ensure they remain dominate in the Crucible (because so very few wish to slog through the drudgery of the repetitive Strikes very long to obtain Legendary and Exotic rewards, maintaining the PvP kid's advantage as the elite few with the best gear to tear through the poor PvE players forced to play PvP) or are in denial that either Call of Halo is in in fact a PvP-centric game with a hackneyed secondary campaign or that they have indeed, wasted their money on a dud.

3 RepliesAlso to all haters of this post. I'm a longtime bungie fanboy and console fps fan. I love this game. But matchmaking is worse than reach (faster but worse matches). Gameplay and new mechanics are inspired (though I feel like super and heavy ammo make pvp too noob friendly). My issue is being promised and promoted one thing. While delivering a shadow of that. Yeah, it might improve. But it needs to start strong and hook non fanboys. Thus garenteeing income and backing. You may not agree with everyone on their assesment but there is enough grumpy people to make you angry. That is enough grumpy people who will think twice before buying dlc and the next game. Also enough to ward off significant numbers of their friends from buying it now. That really worries me. I want them to issue a statement like, "we stuffed up, sorry. We will fix it". Then I'll recommend it as I still have a sliver of hope bungie hasn't sold out. Cheers Tldr ; what if the hate has merit and the game loses support? It sold on bungie's good name. I would hate to see that be lost.

1 ReplyI dunno if I can take you seriously now that you are so eager to buy dlc for this unfinished product despite the concerns

It's obvious the development changed over time. In the first mission, when you get into the first dark hall where the enemies are crawling along those pipes and the game seems so dynamic. You get out and a huge space ship teleports in, you just think "Wow, I can't wait to see the rest of this game" and "What's that huge ship, where is it coming from and where is it heading to". And thats it. The rest of the missions are the same, scan this, scan that while wave for wave of enemies spawn from dark holes in walls, where an invisible wall stops you from walking in. No dynamics anymore. No enemies crawling or jumping from hideouts. Only dark holes and sometimes a ship, but always on the same position. You don't ever get back where the game starts. I remember when they showed us first gameplay and they met up in front of that huge wall, where the game starts and they walked in, and the atmosphere was so dense. Overall it is a bit sad it turned out like this. But I'm still ok with what I got. It's fun and I already played Destiny a lot. I played Diablo and others and I'm used to grind, but I understand when other players are not happy with that.

2 RepliesStill no answer.... Maybe he should just go ahead and change his title to politician Deej... Because they sure as hell have given us the political treatment with your being trolled... Well give us some sense of hope that you haven't completely sold out. Maybe not cheaply promoting a youtuber( no offense guy but it's def a PR stunt) and actually addressing the community...

10 RepliesEdited by AlwaysGetsPaid: 10/1/2014 4:03:06 AMWHAT IS DESTINY'S STORY EVEN ABOUT??? Who is my character even supposed to be? How did a ghost randomly re-animate my HUMAN character at the beginning? Who the heck is Dr. Shin? Who the heck is The Stranger? Who is The Speaker? Why are tripmines introduced and then never seen or heard about again? Why are the various enemies even there in the story? Where did they come from? What are their motivations? Where is the character from the revealed cutscenes who said cheesy crap like "out here, guns are the law"? Why did Saturn, Chicago, and other promised locations not make it into the final game? Why does the same content keep getting added to the game over and over under different names? Why do players run into invisible walls when we were originally told that we could explore anything we saw in the distance? Why can't friends use personal drop ships to hook up with each other like we were shown in the gameplay reveal? We want answers, Bungie! I really get the sense that there were some serious internal conflicts going on at Bungie during the game's development. That's the only explanation for why nothing they showed/mentioned last year made it into the game, and why the final product is so half-baked. And if Bungie thinks they can sell a half finished game and then somehow make the story come together through dlc, they are very wrong. I bought Destiny expecting it to be a full game.

297 RepliesThis is for everyone, it's not directed just at the OP. Get over it people. Bungie doesn't owe any one of us a single thing. What ever choices they made during the creation of this game were 100% theirs to make and if the story (or lack of what you expected to get as a story) is enough to turn you off of the game then just chalk it up to one more of those very common disappointing moments in life and move on with it already. If the story got "gutted", then that was the choice Bungie made. If they plan to slowly release/reveal the full story over the years they are claiming to be planning support for, then that is the choice that Bungie made. As gamers/consumers, we have a voice in offering game suggestions/improvements, but in the end, you either play the game, or you don't. You are free to feel disappointed in what story has been offered so far, but you are not owed any explanation from Bungie, Activision, or any other entity as to why they may or may not have changed their ideas and implementations of the story. Play the game and offer suggestions for performance improvements in terms of balancing, gameplay, etc... or don't. I swear, gamers are the only fans on Earth that feel so much entitlement that they actively attempt to "rewrite" a game. We all watch movies, read books, and listen to music. I'm sure we've all had moments where we have questioned why a director, writer, or musician made the choices they made with their creations. Perhaps we feel that it would have been "better" had it been different, but in the end, you can't change anything. The creators don't owe you anything or any explanations for the choices they made, and like it, or not, you're not entitled to forcing them to change what they have chosen to create simply because it did not live up to what you were expecting to get. Do you know what we do when we don't like a movie, book, or music? We get rid of it. We don't spend 100+ hours watching, reading, or listening to it while simultaneously complaining about how much it sucks and how much we got ripped off for $60.

4 RepliesFunny how its ok for half life 2 to come in episodes yet whiners don't want to buy episodic games from bungie. Sure HL3 or hl2 ep3 never came out but we get rumors here and there, wouln't it be better to have HL3 ep 1 rather than waiting for never for the game to release?

Edited by Koldraxon: 10/2/2014 9:22:34 PMApproximate summary: Original Story felt too Halo. May also include personal 'why-are-these-not-in?'. Based on: 60% Memory. 40% Still-truly-remember information.
-Original Destiny Story too predictable, said a tester. Could've deleted less. -There were more places, perhaps cut due to game size? -There were more factions, armor, weapons, cut due to game size? -File size inaccurate. They said new stuff would be DAILY. It's not right that we, Guardians, are fed IMPOSSIBLE TASKS. Would like HAND-PICKED tasks (5, all completable based on what I use so often and how I use said items, both Vanguard AND Crucible AND [EVENT] ). That can be done by these 'people' supposedly being at Bungie working daily.
Now, what they could've added:
-Customization isn't as good as was once shown: Guns with VISIBLE differences, not just a scope, not just colour and numbers and misleading text. I also saw some good armour which seems to've stopped existing or is like 1/90000 people-wearing. -Space Battles could've been done, since I am thinking that Destiny currently runs on Halo Reach's engine. -No crafting system. Why? You told us we could make our own tools of war once, or am I wrong? -Race, Sword-Of-Crota Infection, Capture the Flag, etc... -Swords, Axes, Hammers, Bows, Shields (actual ones, not ones strapped to one's chest (see Titan for reference) ).
For now, this is my conclusion.
Until the expansions release and more stuff is put to re-assure us (such as Race, Custom-games, Clan skins (using a rudimentry editor system?) ) that they're doing things and hopefully someone, being their harbinger, tells us what they've done and what they shall do. I hope in the future that Bungie can rework in their old Campaign, Crow actually still exists but is the Brother of The Queen.

In summary, most of the stuff is probably cut due to being too Halo, although I'm unsure. Grimoire grants some insight, but then again, more Mystery saves them from rushing, yes? This feels as if it's a cleverly reskinned Halo Reach. With a big lack of vehicles, apart from 3 types (Sparrow, Pike, Interceptor, turret does not really count). If there are any problems, feel free to point them out calmly.
