[ Petition ] Bring chat to Destiny!

Destiny is pretty awesome. The graphics and gameplay are what I expected but the game is missing one crucial piece, and that's simple communication between players. We can't have a "MMO" FPS without communication Bungie.
I want to be able to press down on the d-pad, and have everyone within the tower, patrol session, or my multiplayer team hear me and I want to hear them back. Its just essential.
But I also recognize Bungie's problem with this. There are undoubtedly many age groups that play this game and having a wasted 21 year old college kid playing with a 14 year old can be both tricky and asinine.
So I want to start a petition and have this be heard and quantified for Bungie. Sign the petition if you agree with these two requests.
1 - Make it possible to chat with other players through a one button tap. Down on the d-pad works fine. I don't need to hear my team all the time, but I do want to be able to talk.
2 - At the character customization screen, add a personal information section where I can put my age and playing style. The information wouldn't be publicly shared but would be used to match people up based on that information.

I would like to see it in match made strikes and pvp, in the tower or out in the wild while running around? Not needed in my opinion! (I for one don't want to be hearing 50 kids thinking they are badass and hardcore! ) now let the haters hate :P

38 RepliesNot just no, but hell no. First off, I'm of an age where I don't automatically strap on a headset whenever I sit down to play a game. They're very utilitarian: they make communication [u]among friends[/u] doing [u]specific types of content[/u] more efficient. Beyond that, my headphones just hang on the side of my desk the rest of the time. I wouldn't allow 99.9% of people I encounter in-game into my home or on my phone, why would I want to chat them up over my console? I have neither the desire nor inclination to "eavesdrop" on random conversations while I'm just trying to run around the Tower or out taking care of business elsewhere in the game world. Could the game benefit from some well-designed non-verbal communication tools? Absolutely. I think this can be achieved through creative menu options, additional emotes, etc. But I don't need to hear "Junior" cussing like a longshoreman or [i]random_stranger_9203[/i] pontificating his particular viewpoints on any number of subjects while I'm just trying to enjoy some downtime in a video game. So put me down as [b]NOOP[/b].

i agree with this i dont have a mic (dog chewed it up) but im tired of going to the ps4 home screen and messaging my freinds and players i meet..

Definitely. I hate having to invite my strike team to a foreteam just to chat with them and every game is more fun socializing with people

All they need to do is make it an option, and proximity. That way you just have to be near someone to talk to them, and people can't spam the whole tower. People who don't want it can turn it off. Boom, everyone's happy. (Please do this bungie)

100% agreed there needs to be SOME kind of voice/chat system. I definitely understand that it's very annoying hearing the 12 year olds shout curse words and the other plain ol idiots just there to troll, but that is what the mute button is for. Here is my thoughts, don't bring voice chat into the tower, let us plug a keyboard in and chat via text, we don't need to hear anyone, and if we see someone acting dumb in chat, have an ignore system, problem solved. It will allow us to look for groups, make new friends, etc. And please bring voice chat into PvP, it's insane that I go into a team based game and have zero way of communicating to teammates, you hear some crap you don't like, well again...mute button. This is supposed to be a very social game but instead it just feels like an empty world with really advanced AI (hint - other players). I mean I only have so many friends that play also and they are not always on, I don't want to be forced to go to an external website on a computer to find groups when I'm over in the other room playing comfortable playing on the xbone.

Meh, I like the communication they have going on now. You just walk up to someone and dance. Seems to always get a reaction. ;) Also, there's the bit where I just play with my friends on my friends list - so there's that too.

However I work in network tech, and voice chat is can be resource intensive, plus to add something like that you are talking about some serious (re)coding add voice codec etc. It would take awhile to patch in. My guess is that it was too resource intensive/difficult to be worth it. I would love to see it change, but there is a quicker temp. solution: Add a "chat wheel" function in some capacity (like through the nav menu) that contains some much needed organization command/requests. Like: follow me or assistance required, or enemy spotted etc. Or let people in random match making in the Crucible point at enemies to tag them in the game world so the show up as a red ping (like the Last of Us) in game. Simple things like would smooth out the awkward silence of the "shared" world, at least until they can iron out the voice chat issue.

They have the in game chat. At least i know of for the PS4 but they so have a in game chat bc ive been using it with a friend or sometimes i use the PS4 chat.
