Personally? I don't feel a lot of empathy for any one group or individual, but if I had to choose, I'd say old people.
I can't stand people who bully the elderly. They are the lowest of the low, and deserve to be beaten in the streets. I also remember one occasion that tugged on my heartstrings when I walked past an elderly man and smiled, and his eyes showed a moment of panic; as if he was afraid.
Imagine having to live like that.

Edited by Demigod: 1/6/2014 3:00:34 AMI'm honestly not quite sure. For the most part I have an apathetic view on most everything, the pains of everyday life, suffering of others, and basic emotional interaction. If I had to describe myself it'd be melancholic and lost in thought. When I do feel strongly about something it's often brief and intense before I lapse back into a calm state. So I'm not really certain where I stand.

1 ReplyI feel sorry for the mentally challenged. The only thing they can provide to human society is entertainment and the nutrients we can extract from their bodies.

Soldiers coming home. As to few welcome them back. I make it my mission to shake the hand and thank every soldier I meet. Having served myself I know this is what helps you get through knowing it meant something to someone.

3 RepliesI don't really feel any empathy. I was almost diagnosed with ASPD, but I was too young at the time to fit the criteria. I rejected the notion at the time, but now that I'm older and have had time to analyze more of what motivates me and how I react to things, I've come to agree with the conclusion. That's not to say I feel no empathy, its just very rare that I feel anything about anything. I am not good at processing it when I do. I do see logical inconsistency all the time though, and that is probably my ethical substitute for empathy. I don't really feel bad for anyone or any specific groups, but when I see illogical conclusion applied to people or groups, I do want to correct the mistake and either correct the logic or throw out the assessment/statement/assertion to better reflect the person/group. Of those groups or individuals, the ones I usually go after the most are people or groups who are mischaractized. Example: Hiedegger was a German philosopher, frequently criticized for his participation in the -godwinslaw!- party in Germany in the 1930s. He was a member more for the convenience of needing to be part of the party in order to stay at his job than ideological agreement with the -godwinslaw!-. As such, a lot of his stuff (which incidentally I disagree with for the most part fundamentally) having nothing to do with government or economies or anything not pure philosophy is dismissed out of hand "because he is a -godwinslaw!-". That's unfair and a mischaracterization of him and his ideas, and totally irrelevant to his actual points. Its analogous to the Catholic Church suppressing Galileo wanting to teach Helios-centrism. Don't dismiss the guy just because he does not conform to your confirmation bias. Though its not just those specific situations that cause me to react that way. Anytime I see that sort of mischaractization/strawman its annoys me.
