What does 4chan/Reddit have that The Flood doesn't?
What makes their forums so appealing and interesting? How are they doing things differently?
I always thought it was because they actually try making creative posts.

A lot more users to contribute a helluva lot more content. That doesn't necessarily mean they're better than the Flood. With places like reddit/4chan (especially 4chan) you don't really get an opportunity to get to know the community due to its scope.

I don't identify much with the general Reddit community, but there are a lot of subreddits I like. The ability to find topics that interest me and then discuss them with others is nice. Good moderation keeps the quality of content high. Some people go to Reddit, see the barrage of memes and circlejerking, and say "well, this is shit". But if you're willing to wade in a little further, the water actually clears up and you can happily splash around in subs that you like.

Reddit has a retarded pretentious Atheist circle-jerking community who would cut off their left testicle for an upvote. 4chan has "muh board cultures" but at least has reasonable views and a very smart and creative community (excluding /b/). If you get past the racism and edginess of some people you'll see the community is pretty much the least shitty of all internet boards. This place meanwhile is a Reddit-/v/ wannabe
