yeah I mean anywhere.. especially control.. it just feels horrific.. dyin immediately -
Control for me almost always feels like I'm in the wrong place. I guess I should just put it that way. And that is perfectly fine.

between last couple weeks and this week.. Control matches are just a horrible experience.. I have to consider the full delete.. its about time I guess -
I actually played control yesterday and it felt like it might be benefiting from some of the all around improvements that are in comp and trials (of course there's something else going on with that mode right now). But it felt like there's a good chance that most people will consider it better overall. Its the first 3 weeks still and those are always discombobulated at the beginning of a season so it will probably get better for you.

It just boggles the mind that it can't be a consistent experience.. and not talking about winning at all.. about a weapon just suddenly not being effective. I find a lot of value in keeping off brand stuff off-meta.. that do well at least in Control.. well meaning 1. Not being a detriment to my team as I test.. 2. I can def hit top of the charts.. but its almost like they notice it and take it off the effective list suddenly. Thats why I always ask for some philosophy, guarantee, transparency.. integrity statement of what they are trying to do. I'm glad you feel that but this week just squashed my last 2-3 weeks of great time in PVP... but will continue to look it over.. and maybe just wait for next reset. -
Stuff like what you're describing has actually gotten better if you look at the whole thing. People are probably going to have to learn how the game can't work unless it calculates both your offensive and defensive capabilities and sometimes those bum shots are a reminder that you can't only do the offensive part. It wouldn't be able to match people if it let everyone play like that nonstop. Just taking every single 1v1.

I value the tactical (offensive and defensive) equally.. I do not want low ttks.. I want a battle figured out from movement or cover.. or great shooting. Sometimes you get that.. thats the good times in PVP I think for all. Then you suddenly have no respite.. team is being decimated.. your in games in progress that are for certain mercies.. and I'm inspecting those teams.. they are fire-teamed up/stacks.. control can be casual with #1 making it FREELANCE first mode.. and then looking at matchmaking and balancing PVP HARD especially if you have low pop and want people to talk about in terms of great experience. I play 100 resil/recov... will adapt and hang back when it happens.. but the weapons from the previous week or day are no longer effective.. I can;t claim cheating.. I don't know.. and I do like the variety the game offers but.. would love to see a mode where we all bring the same thing to the table same exact loadout from weapon to armor..to no classes.. then we can just see skill on display and cheating should be way more clearly evident. -
Edited by A_mo: 10/27/2024 5:45:59 PMThe good thing is that all of that seems like its possible if that's what they decide they want to do. A lot of the stuff this game's pvp has to do is truly very hard given the player population and other factors like the changing meta and the fact that its a pve first game, as it should be. I'm not going to lie, eventually I want the pure unadulterated gameplay so me and my boys can get high off of it (that's a joke btw, I don't do drugs). But the thing is I'm more than willing to travel the journey to get that. It has to be something a lot of people want and not just the usual suspects and the game has to have it to where people that want to play like that eventually have a place to climb to that level. And it has to be something where different matchmaking approaches can stand side by side as equals without one looking like its for second class guardians. I think the game is probably closer to that right now than its ever been even if it looks a bit messy this early in the season. Its just weird sometimes with this game because a lot of the "negatives" that people bring up happen in just about every pvp game to some extent, even ones with far fewer variables to keep track of. I play solo so of course some sort of freelance sounds like a good idea to me. I've always thought that as far as the way the skill system works the game would be better off just calculating that in a 6v6 freelance mode as far as any need it would have to know how people truly stack up as far as pvp skills in the game. But people have always played in stacks, that's part of destiny and its probably not going away so its something that the system needs to be able to handle as smoothly as possible as well. And as long as the stuff feels as smooth as it does now compared to how its felt at times in the past its really looking like it has a great chance of doing whatever they want it to do. That was one of my issues with the "sbmm" or "competitive" approach before is that it was just too jarring with some of the stuff. Now its starting to feel smoother and more interpretable and even if people don't know that they're interpreting what's going on a lot of them will still be doing it anyway and so the game won't have to make up for so much in the future.

Control is just a tough pizza to twirl. It has the "best" and "worst" players playing like they own the mode so if you fall in between that it can pretty strange at times. Plus since this is still the first 3 weeks its hard to say its any different than any other season because the first 3 weeks tend to be bad for a lot of people, even good players. I wouldn't know but it might not be as bad for the newest players so that they don't end up quitting for the season.
