Poor New Lights
Been playing Destiny since the start and I recently went in to show my wife how to play and get her started on her account and WOW, I feel bad for all the new players that enter this game, I know this game front to back and even I was confused as hell on what to have her do first! So many different things pop up that it was just very confusing for not only her but myself as well! She got frustrated with it so I took over to kinda help get her to where she can play more activities with me and hopefully understand the game a little better, i cant imagine though being a new player and not having help from someone thats been around the game a while! I can definitely see why new players don’t stick around!

4 RepliesYou should start her in D1 when everything was SO MUCH BETTER! (I too am a D1 day 1 player that HATES the state of D2 making it soooooo not fun) The one thing that I find interesting is that last night I went to the EDZ to try out a new loadout as my solar warlock was performing badly in mayhem and found two level two players, the taken event started and they knew and did exactly what they should to make it heroic. I intended on just ignoring the event but they were trying so hard how could I possibly resist going in to help them out!!! [u][b]If you see new lights HELP THEM without them we have no players to help us later!!![/b] [/u]

Exactly. Two friends made me play around 2018. I refused. They were adamant about so I started in February 2021, and end up spending about 3 months on YouTube just to figure out what the story was and what expansion to start. A friend bought Beyond Light Deluxe Edition which included Forsaken and Shadowkeep.

Grinding for glimmer without legendary shards or any other mats for the fragments is what ruined it for a couple of my co workers

-blam!- is so spread out and thrown at you all at once it's crazy stupid I remade a warlock and I quit after a few hours it got just so tedious. If you weren't invested in this game from the start you very quickly realize the catch up process just isn't worth the time.

I feel bad for new lights cause they get ZERO story. They gonna enter The Final Flop and be like.... "who's this robot guy and why is everyone so happy to see him? Why are we here?"

They can NEVER make encounters complicated and hard enough for old school players at this point, without COMPLETELY nerfing everything into the ground and making the game literally unplayable for new and casual players. There is simply no way. They already made the game a slog with LF, but oldschool players felt no change, still can steamroll everything, while new players are dying a million times every 10 seconds even in Hero NFs. The gap between them is impossible to breach. Oldschool players are getting bored, and new players find the experience too awful to stay and keep playing.

1 ReplyYup. Tried to bring two people into the game. Both left in frustration. You pretty much need a full time coach and lore explainer for about three weeks playing every day to come up to speed on all the systems and the story.

I reset my Trials card after a loss and then proceeded to go 5-2-2 (that’s five wins, two losses, two wins) and went flawless..: except I apparently did not do what I remember doing (resetting my card). In a nutshell I did not go flawless. Thanks for letting me vent. This game can be very frustrating.

Thats what happens when you delete a massive portion of the game and keep deleting new stuff. MMO's usually grow. In this one you need to watch a youtube video if you want to know whats up from the beginning. Most garbage decision ive ever seen a dev make was the DCV. They should have made it so you can simply check and uncheck content you want to install instead of plain deleting awesome old content from the game. But hey stealing content from paying customers and re-selling old content while double dipping makes more money right?

This game has changed so much in 4 years. I couldn't play due to connectivity issues. My 17 year old wanted to find something we could game online together. So I suggested D2. Whoa. This is almost an entirely different game. I stopped playing before shadowkeep.

I think it all depends what kind of player you are. Some people want to buy a game and have and do everything as soon as they load in. Other players, like myself, like to buy a game, start at the very start, and work through it stage by stage. This is why I got hooked on Destiny way back, but the way this game has been eroded with a lot of planets and content being removed, sunsetting, and huge changes that have had a detrimental effect, it's impossible for new players to experience how good this game used to be. As it stands, I would be put off if I were a new player cos Destiny is not Destiny any more, and after having a break, I'm also struggling to keep up.

2 RepliesThe game has a lot of content. It probably needs something that shows people through the modes almost like a tutorial for every single mode and buildcrafting. Or maybe it should just start with the buildcrafting. That's probably the biggest change that's happened since Forsaken that would make it more confusing for people to get into the game. Its also a change that everyone likes so its most likely only going to get more complex as time goes on.

The on boarding process needs some work. They have been making attempts at improving the new player experience, I can acknowledge that. However, before the content vault, when there were more campaigns to complete such as the Red war, the game organically brought players through the concepts of the game. This was more clear and better than a series of vague chores.

Edited by virpyre: 1/16/2024 9:22:52 AMThe "New Light" is a gimmick tutorial on subclass working, bounties, lost sectors, strikes, and their first exotic once everything is completed. Players can then jump into 6 New Light missions 3 from Vanguard, Gambit, and Crucible, which help them with a full set of Legendary gear. And 3 from each subclass, Void, Arc and Solar. After that, they will have to make the hardest decision to buy the DLC or find another game.
