State of Trials - what happened?
I haven't really touched trials (or the game for that matter) for the better part of a season, and I'm astounded at how woeful trials has become. Why is zone control permanent now? Who thought this was a good idea? Myself and all of my old clanmates feel alienated from the mode that we played growing up in 2015, and it's not a stretch to imagine that others who played during that period feel the same way.
The gamemode is now the most unbearable race to control a tiny portion of the map, use the gimpiest and cheesiest strategies to get early picks, and then hunkering down and trying to get kills with grenades behind titan shields. Pulse rifle spam from the sky, titans that hide behind shields that 1.5x their teammates health, and then super spam for the last 3 rounds. It's turned the gamemode into a strategy game that bears no resemblance to the arcade-y gamemode we used to play except for its name.
Won't be touching the game for some time. A real shame to see what has happened to the only redeeming quality of pvp.

2 RepliesI'm one of those terrible players that tries to get through it. At the moment I'm just trying to get to rank 10. Unrewarding? Absolutely. Somehow I'm going up against guys that obviously belong in much higher tier matchmaking than where I'm at but I keep going up against sweats that can destroy a full 3 man team in seconds. And it's not even cheating, I can tell that they're very good at PVP. Buy why is that the only thing I'm playing against? The super low rep, if you even get any, from losing all rounds even if you manage a kill is just disgusting. I'm TRYING, the rep should be better than 0 or 7. I don't know that I'll do it again unless the weapons are amazing.

1 ReplyTrials feels like -blam!-!!! Ever since they removed the flawless pool it has been nothing but sweaty -blam!- matches every other match. I win one I lose two. I will not be giving another cent to bungie till I see a major change to PvP. I know it’s a dead horse being beat by the community but something needs to happen if they want to keep players for the final shape. No more slacking bungie

What happened is they removed the flawless pool. So now the population is gone. They got what they asked for.

1 ReplyGot flawless within 15 games and the first card was just testing out builds since I very rarely play PvP. Was probably the easiest flawless of my life, dominion is much better than elimination, makes people actually play the game

The new Zone Trials... 1) Promotes a different meta, and loadouts that are usually bad are viable in the mode 2) Speeds up rounds 3) Discourages camping (spawn) 4) Forces play around the entire map 5) Adds another means of balancing the game (they can change cap points) 6) Allows for up to 3 distinct strategies to be used 7) Discourages "niche" loadouts (all close range like shotgun /smg or all long range like pulse /sniper) and encourages balanced loadouts You seem to think that making Trials less of an arcade game and more strategic is a bad thing. I prefer the high-stakes feeling of Trials. If you want an arcade-game feel, Mayhem is available. Trials has always been "cheesy," as players are trying their best to win. If players aren't trying, then it doesn't feel like Trials.

The error is thinking that Trials was ever good in D2. Bringing it back was a huge mistake. It sometimes feels like they only did it to supplement Worthy being so awful and because some subset of the playerbase was desperate for it.

Yes, cause Trials is far better when teams camp there spawn for a minute and a half until either they get a pick on the enemy pushing (actually playing the game) or the zone comes up. The shifting zone means teams can't camp the same spots on the map every single round. I think a positive change would be increasing the time before the zone activates, and then increasing the time to capture the zone.

Trials has always sucked. You said one season? That's questionable bud. Titans have been OP as hell for well over a year now. Welcome to like 1.5 years ago. But you are right. It's completely a lost game mode. Half of the bone dead strategy in the mode is... proc your Titan super ASAP lol. The fact that Titans have a super easy way to get 100 in all the right zones, Hunters are still stuck somewhat on mobility no matter what, and that they have fast supers, shields, and infinitely stupid melee along with some of the best exotics in the game has made Trials pointless for ages. Nevermind bad matchmaking to go along with it and the general horrifying balance of 3v3 gameplay in D2. Just stop playing. It's not worth it.

Simple reasons trials is bad and has been bad for quite some time: 1: Anti is non-existent 2: Bungie can't balance their sandbox 3: The ppl at Bungie do not play trials (because they're all terrible), so they are completely blind to what we experience 4: The above reason is why we have perma cap point (one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen)... it promotes titan barricade spam, bubbles, wells, behemoth titan crystal spam, and spawn locations heavily favor the side that can get to the zone first. Also typically resulting in only a small percentage of the map being played on.

Trials is extremely unrewarding. Population is low due to lack of incentive. The community is incredibly toxic and egotistical.

2 RepliesThe game feels hollow now that PvP is pretty much gone. No reason to farm PvE anymore for PvP gear. Feeling pretty much Empathic at this point. No reason to play in general.

There was two weeks where I went flawless on all three characters and some how now it’s nearly impossible to even get one win with the bots I keep getting as teammates

Stop playing it, and just maybe they'll fix it. But no, you guys continue hit yourself in the head with a rock and ask what happened so uninstall and delete your account

I haven't played in 8 months, then came back and went flawless on my first card. It was one of my easiest runs too.
