Amanda was nowhere near as important as Bungie are trying to make her seem
Sweeper Bot's death would be more impactful than hers was.

5 RepliesFor a character that's been around nearly nine years, you know you've failed when I feel nothing over their death. I felt more emotion with the Baron and Lubberkin in the Witcher 3. And I only knew the Baron for a few hours.

This is a problem with destiny's story telling. Without diving into the lore, a vast majority of characters are just husks. They NEED to start fleshing these characters out in game before they decide to kill them cause otherwise people are just not gonna care. I remember amanda best for her usage in the destiny 1 beta...to buy green ships because it was so neat back then. But otherwise...she's just in the very bottom depths of the tower sitting there doing nothing...not even being a USEFUL vendor even for her own specific and worthless purpose. Couldve allowed us to do quests for unobtainable ships or something...but that's too much development cost for a game raking in millions. Waste of development time, sure, but so is giving her a pointless death.

Amanda's death was in the same vein as Rohan's death. An underdeveloped character who was used to illicit an emotional response which wasn't earned.

Bungie never did anything with her at all. For 9 years she sat in the corner selling blue and green ships. Ships not a single player ever needed cause you get better ships before you even get to the tower. Absolutely ridiculous that they just left her as a vendor that sells items nobody needs. Bungie is just gonna kill off every character each season and act like they meant something. Like it’s a Fox TV Show or something.

I have never cared about Amanda at all,Just an unimportant character and honestly found her to be annoying in this season.I don't care that Bungie killed her off.

13 RepliesShe could have been, but terrible writing ruined her story. Amanda was a side/vendor character. And much like Anna Bray, they never actually developer HER character. They told stories with these characters in them, but didn't make either compelling. Think about how bad the writing needs to be to have a character, who has always been associated with air support, who you make a point to expand on their backstory about wanting to be a pilot(ham-fisted as it was), TEASE them being killed in an air battle... Only to put them in a situation that makes no sense. You have multiple immortal space wizards, a seasoned military leader, and are warned by one of your "enemies" that something is up. So what do you do? You send a normal human into an enemy stronghold, alone, to do something that the guardian has done countless times. Amanda was essentially "killed by the architects" and it made just about as much sense as it does when it happens in game...

11 RepliesVery true but Bungie is trying to follow the story idea that she made the ultimate sacrifice that she wanted to save everyone regardless of not having powers... Speaker where he talks about sacrifice! Something like bravely leads to sacrifice the notions of a guardian

Just going to put out there that they gave a few small sentences saying goodbye to Lance Reddick and then they gave an entire essay saying how Amanda holiday was the Saint and savior of the world. It's a joke that they put more effort in a hoodbye to a digital character than a person who helped create the story by being apart of it.

Background character. Nothing more. As I stated last month, Bungie made more out of her wasteful death than the literal death of a known voice actor. But let’s make sure everyone is showered with inclusive sparkles at the end of a PVP.

But Obi-wan is huge in the entire Star Wars franchise. Obi-wan’s story is so powerful that it can still be felt even now. Here, they killed off Amanda Holiday but it doesn’t make an impact. It’s like bye Amanda, another one bites the dust. Like who’s Amanda again? What she done again? Yeah, bye-bye Amanda. 🤣 Then here comes Nimbus! 🤣 Game is a shamble mess of shallowness!

1 ReplyY'all are terrible. She's been by our side since the first moments of D1. I'm a lot more impacted by her death than I was Rohan's. The fact that they killed her off makes me want to shoot stuff. She was one of the most likeable characters in the game.

Ngl I put like 4000 hours in destiny 1 and I had no memory of her being in that game, so much so that I was skeptical and had to go back and look if she really was

In a "War" everyone is important even the guy who fills up the fuel tanks of war machines.

The only reason Amanda felt slightly more tragic than Rohan was because I did the Chaperone quest when she was the only vendor who gave a quest for it. Rohan was nothing but story fodder.

problem with destinys stories, we hear of the background of the characters only for a seasons story, a real rpg would have multiple ongoing mini stories to show us the world. its been 9yrs and we really dont know anything of the people in the city. at best we hear how they felt at times. even the guardians the witness killed, they were what the ones in all the commercials....they should have been the class leaders so we could talk to them. or better yet have them talking with us in strikes instead of the vanguard leaders. but thats bungie for ya

Just like Rasputin. Built him up in D1, then made him a weak little #####. Amanda, loved the chemistry Her and Cayde had. But literally in all of D2 she was just a background character. Now, if Bungie really wanted to make a big impact, and really do another Cayde moment, they should of done Sweeper Bot. Literally no joke, that bot has more love then what the community had for Amanda.
