Why are Guarrdian Elite ranks locked behind a pay wall in a free to play game?
The most experienced players in D2 will have to buy Lightfall if they care about ranks and titles.
I'm a casual player who never cared about ranks and titles, but this is just wrong.
You want to force vets to buy a DLC with a profoundly negative review, just to get a 7+ rank at the cost of $100?
For the sake of title and achievement seekers, I really hope this was unintentional.

12 RepliesYou're not being [b]forced[/b] to buy anything. There is nothing requiring a guardian rank of X. You don't need to be X rank to engage with ANY free content. It's literally just a cosmetic number. DLC costs $50 btw. Nobody is[b] forcing[/b] you to buy the collectors edition, even if you DO decide to buy the DLC. And you talk about title and achievement hunters as if there aren't also titles and triumphs behind paid content lol. You can call this game F2P if you want, but it's really more free to try with most of the worthwhile content requiring a DLC or at least the purchase of a season.

Despite the marketing, the reality is that Destiny 2 is free to try. If you want access to all of the features/functionality/activities then you need to pay.

2 RepliesGuardian ranks are about “mastering all the game has to offer”. How can you master EVERYTHING when you don’t play everything? If you don’t put the time, money, and effort to do everything, why should you care about Guardian ranks above rank 7? You’re likely not doing anything where being that high of a level actually might mean something Idk, I know money is an issue. It’s not quite like solo players complaining. That’s a choice, this is also a choice but one with money involved. But the point still stands: How can you master EVERYTHING when you don’t play everything?

No and why would you care? They reset every season, so they're meaningless.

I paid $50 for the DLC and even I don't care about the ranks. Now if they didn't reset each season that would be a different thing. I don't even worry about gilding titles.

I see this rather as a desperate measure trying to bolster the meagre value of the DLC. It won't work; it'll only backfire and make players resent Bungie's money grabbing strategies. And this is NOT a simple paid Vs free to play game. It involves multiple layers of payment in multiple expansions, multiple seasons passes, Silver eververse payments, Dungeon key purchases. You can have spent hundreds upon hundreds on the game, which have no doubt, paid for this long overdue QoL improvement only to be hamstrung if you don't pay yet more. That's wrong and cheap. If they want customers to buy a DLC then they needed to focus on making a great campaign.

They even stopped having non-paid surges in strikes, no pay no pinnacle lol D2 free to play is just a thin excuse for bungie to not "Overdeliver" on the majority of the game, but make no mistake, D2 is very much a paid game , and free players are playing a demo

3 RepliesGuardian ranks are just another "number get bigger" for addicts to chase in stead of actual content. Cleverly intertwined, so you have to buy all content to max it out. If they do away with power levels, they're gonna need another number-growing simulator to keep people grinding.

Ok destiny is not a free to play game it’s a free to try game. In order to get a higher rank you need to play the entire game which included buying expansions

Destiny 2 is Free to Start. Sadly to enjoy everything the game has to offer u have to pay. but bungie doesnt Force u... u can decide on your own if u want to pay for it or not, its up to you not bungie. they offer, and if u reject... so be it. So calm urself down.

1 ReplyWhile I don't mind Guardian Ranks requiring people to play paid content to progress to the highest level, the fact that the very first thing auto-tracking points all returning players to is the Lightfall campaign with not even a single rank to progress unless you make a purchase feels tone deaf. Also, moving the last 4 loadout slots behind a paywall when they were initially available to everyone for free is a bad look in my opinion. And just to clarify, I do own Lightfall but haven't been able to play through the campaign because of PC issues so am stuck at rank 6 until that is fixed.

You make it out like g.ranks are something important lol. its no different than an emblem tracker. simply just a checklist. want more to do or make # go bigger, get the expansion...don't care bout # going up? don't pay for it or don't engage in the system.

3 RepliesThe funny thing is... the most experienced players/veterans and players that want to go for those ranks and titles will buy the new expansions and not complain about it (like me)
