I don't know about your friend but here is an interesting one from me.
Back in 2016/17 me and my friends used to travel with our xbox on business trips as all night in hotels was good levellin up time. Post D2, my friend moved to stadia then a proper gaming laptop. We are all travelling constants so spend a lot of time in client based cities.
Anyway, last I checked with him he got banned just before lock down and gave up and moved on from the game. I told him that he must have hit some logic.
He was branded a cheater for playing a game he loved.

The IP address for the location you visited changed and that could flag it in their system for "account sharing." So, that would check out with the facts that I was able to find about how Battleye works. I also feel sorry for your friend.

I felt sorry for Bungie because account sharing on same hardware with different IP address is pretty lame. I know a few people who travel with xboxs (conveniently sized imho) and they don't have issues. This is just bnet mess.

I got another friend who does Business Management across Europe and Scandinavia and he takes his PS5 with him on long trips. This could mean that he could get flagged for account sharing if he plays Destiny 2 while on the road.
