So I play a 3 person (or 4 or 6) matchmade activity as a solo. The end screen comes up, I slap on the two cards I have onto people at random because I really didn't pay attention to anything that happened other than getting my own job done. (unless they were so awful I happened to notice) It's especially useless in 3 person, I have 2 people to give to, I have two cards. Not hard math.
How is this useful? I feel like all it does is make people hang around longer at the end of an activity. The number really means nothing, other than you played more.

Made even worse you HAVE to give out commendations to progress so it's literally just busy grind work. Has nothing to do with how you play with others. Jerks and decent people have the same commendations. They mean nothing.
-
System is beyond stupid but I dig it. My only beef is I need to remember whom to give commendations this/next time. If I give it 1, 2 then next time it should be 2, 3 because I want to be fair and don't offend math. So numbers do matter. Maybe they need to add Fatality/Brutality or something like this, too.

7 RepliesIt promotes being nice to each other Of which is a good thing Being Kind is important and doesn't cost anything

1 ReplySuch a stupid concept
-
I honestly don’t even know what commendations I’m giving.
-
Exactly. Very simple concept that bungie made complicated. Why not show stats as always and click A on “that” guy.
-
8 RepliesYeah it doesn't seem very well thought out to me. I feel like I'm missing something obvious though lol

1 ReplyBecause everyone deserves a participation trophy. 🤡🌎

3 RepliesFeels like a participation trophy. Also, you can hand them out like candy, but may never get one in return. So what does that mean? Does the guy with the most kills get one? How do you rate people you've never met or spoken to? Random fireteams don't strategize, they speed run the whole thing. It's called a grind. It may have a place in a clan but not randomly generated teams.
-
Oh, Bungie gives you as many commendations as you have teammates in every activity so you can give it out to everyone every time. It's like playing musical chairs with too many chairs.
-
Another unnecessary feature.
-
It’s the DuhVersity nod! Cheap virtue signaling that means nothing Oh yeah - clan lady now gives rewards based on your feel good rather than the points you earn! True measure of total merit less rewards.

9 RepliesI’m assuming it’s supposed to integrate with the LFG they’re adding later this year. Basically the higher a person’s commendation score, the more stuff they’ve done well. It’s a generic type thing. We’ll likely be able to see this next to each person we see. The system also has other, more subtle applications. Score is linked to what looks like a few Guardian Rank achievements. This allows it to effectively timegate later ranks. The system has also been known to improve player engagement and morale in PvP modes even after a loss. Overwatch has been doing it for years, so the data’s there

2 RepliesI like the part after a Crucible match when the commendations don't even load until there's 5 seconds left pathetic and i'm on Series X, no excuse for that
-
2 RepliesIn clash I’ll give it to people who don’t rush their spawn and die instantly over and over again.. control I’ll give it to anyone I see making an effort tapping 2 zones and actually trying to hold them 2 zones.
-
It’s probably a way to do holding hands gaming. Sounds to me like a desperation attempt. Hahahahahahaha! There is nothing here. Welcome to hollowness!

1 ReplyI want Hawthorne to go back to her original complete activities this is hot garbage
-
Bungie wants to get rid of the toxcity in the community by wasting time and resources on this, because it allows them to tell themselves that they aren't the root of the toxicity in the community.

1 ReplyEdited by Cal O'Mari: 3/3/2023 6:43:53 PMThe commendation system is just a giant pile of bloated nonsense. I'd like to see it removed and the space put to much better functional use. Its like they're trying to encourage hollow rewards as personal satisfaction. I don't need, nor want recognition for what I do in the game. Its supposed to be leisure activity, not government. I'm playing to shoot sh*t and use cool abilities. I don't doubt its efforts to curb toxicity and elitism, but just like most answers they come up with in these things, its completely pointless. Its like they want it to look like its effort without actually putting in real effort. A typical trait of more... politically involved groups. Be loud, but don't really do anything, but also make it look nice to get more people so we can be even louder! The whole business reminds me of unhealthily angsty teenagers. Not to insult, I just legit see that kind of mindset and wanted to illustrate it simply.
-
1 ReplyIt just a way to say thank you in low end content and receive recognition in endgame content.
-
5 RepliesPeople aren’t even handing them out. And then they tied progression to this asinine idea. So now I’m held hostage by other player’s willingness to give out these things.
-
To award people anticipating trophies for showing up in key activities and for elitism superiority. We want validation please award us.
-
How many dares etc have i played where three people get all the commendations as they are teammates lol
-
people with ranks in the thousands because of the wish wall method, horrible system
-
My guess is it was made with the purpose of working with the in game lfg system. Hopefully they expand on it to work well with that system, and it’ll finally make sense. Hopefully.
