Hi, I got racist abuse through the text chat in game, preceeded by telling me to off myself.
I see guidance on reporting abuse through steam, PS and xbox, but nothing for the text chat.
I took screenshots of the messages, I just don't know how to report the player.
Any ideas?

3 RepliesHi, Bungie has some options depending on how it was sent. You can check here to report a player.

I had a person sending a TON of hate mail, mine saying I should die painfully and horribly. Opening a help ticket got me a forum mod and the information was passed on to the Destiny mod team. That may be your best bet OP.

2 RepliesEdited by TIME_4_A_WIN: 1/24/2023 6:04:38 PMIf it’s in game there is a report feature built into the game. Click their ID and hit report and choose the appropriate option. If the message came through the D2 companion app tap the comment once it should show three dots … click and you should get the option to report by selecting the appropriate option on screen. Also remember to block the user and they won’t bother you again. If this post helps upvote ( ^ ) so others are aware. Happy gaming!

This included telling them that responsible grownups wouldn’t always be at arms length to lecture those lacking in speech etiquette.

Yeah I had some dude text chat some pretty ruthless stuff to me in Destiny during a trials game. All this super racist stuff about black people that was just psycho. I tried to report it but there really wasn't a way for such a case. He was like assuming I was black and trying to be really insulting, but I'm white🤷 However, what he had to say would be seen as utterly deplorable by anyone with a moral compass. I'm not particularly sensitive to some silliness or jokes, but this was pure unadulterated hatred. Like the stuff this guy said would be an instant ban on PSN had he messaged through there. Unfortunately, PSN doesn't address in game issues.

Bungie of course won't touch this with a barge pole, money > people.

2 RepliesI disabled the text chat feature on the first day it was implemented as the internet is exceptionally dysfunctional and the Destiny 2 community is especially toxic. Do yourself a solid and deactivate the feature it is unfortunate yet it is the reality. Just know they wouldn't say those things in your face and their anger is representative of their shortcomings.

9 RepliesTry opening a support ticket with Bungie and show them

5 RepliesThin skinned? I don't report anything unless I see someone in pvp that can't die or has unlimited heavy. Words though...who cares.

2 RepliesI get the most vile messaging here. I report it to the ninjas over and over until there’s consequences. It’s unacceptable and they need to ban these guys for months for the DMing stuff.

1 ReplyIf you receive offensive messages through your platform's message service you report them there. If you receive the message through Bungie.net then use this platform's report options.

4 RepliesIf you’re soft enough that words from a stranger on the internet hurt you. Turn off all communication options. Problem dealt with. You’re welcome.
