I really never liked them in the first place. Now they are staple in every hard activity. They make me use guns I don’t want to use to “stun” them. There’s got to be another way to make activities hard without them. Keep them to lost sectors.
Edit: alright I a seeing a similar trend of answers towards disliking the limitations to gun usage that they bring. I agree with this. I agree that they are ok in some content as well but not all endgame. A combo of focusing on both problems could do the trick.

Simple solution - Allow any weapon to have any champion mod at a given time. On the artifact, continue to include champion mods. What would the difference between them be? Artifact mods are cheaper (cost less energy on armor). This would allow bungie to incentivize certain weapons rather than restrict certain weapons.
-
I don’t mind the champions but the mods and the artifact are bad. Personally I think it’s fine to start out with just a few specific mods and you have to figure out how to do it. It’s a challenge but i think the higher you climb in your light it should correlate with the artifact. Have more options for the mods but make them harder to get. It doesn’t make any sense to be limited to a sword at max light that cost 6 mod slots when you grinded for that exotic. I get they want it to be a challenge but I think they went about it the wrong way. Like i said make the artifact harder to unlock and give more options for those mods. That way it is a challenge to get the mods you want but once you do the champions aren’t always difficult just like the raid boss also eventually becomes easy. Make it worthwhile not pointless.

I love them. GMs wouldn't be nearly as interesting if not for champions. I just wish they wouldn't do dumb stuff like give us 3 unstoppable option but only 1 barrier option and 1 primary overload option.
-
2 RepliesIt would be nice if all champion mods were unlocked but the seasonal versions cost little to nothing to equip.
-
They’re not a bad idea… just too limited or some champions are way too clunky (like for ffs why give us unstop sidearm when we have unstop pulse and fusion/linear)
-
3 RepliesIf Bungie didn't spam them throughout the entire game they wouldn't be that bad. I've never liked that Bungie takes an idea and runs with it, never really looking to use other ideas, you know, switch things up once in a while. It's not just the champions that they do this with either. It's with the content that is being created as well. Hey, we came up with lost sectors, let's spam them. Hey, we came up with dungeons, let's spam them. Hey, we came up with seasons, let's spam them. Hey, we came up with these landmines that slow them down, let's spam them. The list is huge, becase Bungie doesn't want to switch things up, come up with fresh unique ideas, just the same ole same ole rinse and repeat.

I'd prefer game mechanics to gun mods for "creative" enemies. I liked that elemental shields mattered in D1 and that you couldn't just break any shield with a single bullet. This at least makes sense to me. A shield should protect you, not be a color coded signal to pull out the correct weapon.
-
Maybe just one type of champion so we can get more creative with load outs
-
They should just be linked to elements. One light, one dark. (Once there’s three dark elements, that is.)
-
1 ReplyMy only problem is that I have to use guns I don't like.
-
This so much! I hate having to run weapon archetypes I don't like just for champions. I should be able to put whatever champion mod I want on whatever weapon I like or just get rid of champions!
-
Champions are terrible in execution. The worst aspects of PvE interactions are ability spamming enemies and bullet sponge enemies, and guess what enemy type had to be both? Yep, champions. While Overload champions (rightfully) get the majority of flak regarding them, all three as a whole are simply awfully designed because of the aforementioned reasons, and Bungie's idea of just spamming them in certain parts of higher end content doesn't suddenly make them more engaging. Frankly, it's lazy and shows a lack of creativity and foresight. To make matters worse, the champions themselves aren't the biggest pain point. Instead, it's the seasonal mods. The mods prescribed to them are far too restricting and, as much as I hate saying this, serve as nothing but artificial difficulty by forcing us to run certain loadouts, which may just serve to handicap us more than the activity modifiers themselves depending on the mods. Lets look at this season's mods:
We have close ranged weapon mods like Unstoppable Sidearm and Overload Sword. Well, sidearms are pointless when you have access to a pulse rifle and/or (especially) a fusion/linear fusion rifle, as they all have longer range and typically do more damage. Overload swords are practically a death sentence on higher end difficulties due to how frequent overloads will spam their abilities, along with being deadly in general, and makes Passive Guard mandatory if you still want to attempt it. You're likely better off using Thermoclastic Strike instead, since it guarantees a stun on hit, it instantly refreshes your melee upon a stun, costs only 3 energy, it doesn't consume a spot in your gauntlets, and every class has access to ranged solar/stasis melees. Then we have Anti-barrier auto rifles as the only AB mod this season; could be worse if I'm being honest, but that means our only other options for AB rounds are Erianna's Vow, Lament, and soon to be Arbalest. Since all of those take an exotic slot, and none of them are primaries either, we're stuck with very few options to take into endgame with. So, what we're left with for decent seasonal mods are USTP fusion with pulses as a substitute, OL bow/melee, and AB autos. Frankly, this is probably one of the worst selection of champion mods we've had considering what engame activities are looking like atm, specifically with having most of the toughest GMs rotation this season makes it worse.
The entire system, both champions themselves and their mods, are in desperate need of an overhaul. They should be challenging, but engaging, and not just tedious and frustrating.

Edited by Hardrive2677: 11/8/2021 5:42:07 AMI think the mods need to be re worked so that people can just apply them to whatever they want to use. Unless it’s the special seasonal perk like particle deconstruction that applies to a specific weapon type. I’d like to be able to stun champs with any primary I want. It should not matter. But they want seasonal metas. I think that’s dumb. Bow stun is fine but that being the only primary overload stun mod for 6 months is not. Champs aren’t the problem it’s the fact that we’re forced to use specific Loadouts every season to deal with them. I’d like to have more options.
-
Good idea, bad execution, most of the time.
-
Me. I'd rather every trash mob be a full fledged boss than fight champions.
-
6 RepliesYou should be able to put stun mods on any weapon type at all times. I don't like bows or sidearms, I shouldn't HAVE to use them if I don't want. It's stupid.
-
I don’t understand why the overload Minotaur chases u like it’s a unstoppable
-
I like champions, dislike the handcuffing to certain gun types that comes with them.
-
2 RepliesI think they're fine. Just wish they found a better way to handle them. I don't want to use sidearm and pulse rifles.
-
3 RepliesI don’t mind the Actual Champions. I do however have a huge problem with how Restrictive the mods are. As usual with Bungie the system was implemented poorly. They should have made it where you can choose your own weapon class for specific champs. Things like Anti barrier auto/ Overload SMG are just horrible. Same with Unstoppable Sidearm. LoL I’m not taking a sidearm into a GM with a sidearm where everything nearly one shots you to begin with.
-
The concept of a tough enemy that you need to stun and then attack is fine (that's most Zelda bosses), but the actual stun mechanics are both restrictive and uninteresting. How you stun a champion is: shoot them... with a specific weapon... and, uh, that's it. Wow very cool. Barrier champions are somewhat interesting, in that you need to actually bait them into deploying their barrier before stunning them. But overloads and unstoppables are really just, "shoot them with gun." And of course the system is restrictive. Since this season began, I've barely used any Hand Cannons, Scout Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Sidearms, Shotguns, Snipers, GLs, Rocket Launchers, or Machine Guns. Why? Because champions. When an activity has champions, it feels like my gear has already been picked for me. If there overloads, I'll probably use a bow, or a sword. Barriers? Auto rifle or Eriana's. Unstoppables? Fusions. The heavy slot is dominated by linear fusions, and overload sword. Sure there's "technically" multiple options, but it really doesn't feel that way. Why use unstoppable sidearm or pulse rifle when the fusion mod exists and particle deconstruction is a thing? You could use solar/stasis melee for overload, by why wouldn't you double down with a bow, which has Infinite ammo and no cooldown? I get that over multiple seasons champions get people to switch up their gear, but I hate that within a single season I basically don't touch half of the weapons in my vault.

Edited by Toots238857: 11/8/2021 4:15:10 PMWe just need more options to stun them with. This mechanic of "we will give them a limited pool of weapons to choose with mods" is the issue. Whoever thought of stunning Overlord Captains with a sword needs to be reprimanded! It's bad as chasing my 2 year old to put a pamper on them.
-
Nope. I love them, a issue you need to focus on and using certain weapons each new season to add variety.
-
I don't think they are a bad idea per se, but the problem with Bungie seems to be that they take an idea and just beat it to death.
-
What I think is worse is you all exaggerating the difficulty of them as well as the hypocrisy you all share. You say you don’t like the limited weapon use you have because of champion but the only places you NEED anti champ mods are GMs and solo lost sectors. And then you say you all say you don’t like to use the same weapons again yet shotguns are your most kills in pvp. Make up your mind and stop making a mountain out of a molehill.

Edited by RichGhost77: 11/8/2021 10:58:55 PMI like champions. I like seasonal mods too. I will however, accept that maybe this season is a bit tiresome since it's 6 months instead of 3. ☹️ Oh and it might be good of some more exotics had inbuilt champion mods, maybe.
