Can we be done with handcannon shotgun metas?

Almost four seasons of this unfun peekplay movement exotic sandbox and nothing seems to change. The auto rifle meta wasn't fun but damn atleast people would opt to use something else, now it's the same three guns with the same armor sets over and over. Something killed the creativity in people's loadouts and I hope to god someone figures out what it was.

    • Sure, nerf shotguns into complete uselessness, I will just put on a GL and make you more frustrated than you ever were over shotguns. If you think shotguns are OP and annoying to play against you do not know what is coming.

      • You can literally use anything now and be successful, I used pulse sidearm and grinded Iron Banner on all three characters; sure every game was a mercy and I lost way more than I won because their matchmaking is shit, but at least my k/d didn't suffer.

        • Yes!!! Easy mode HCs and the no skill sliding shotgunning hillbillies! I love bagging the shotgunners, they lose most of the time, makes me laugh.

          • Yes please. Yes we’ve had other metas but they didn’t last long. The HC (albeit different archetypes) and shotty meta has been around way too long. chaperone is stupidly OP being able to kill from distance

                • What meta do you want then? Instead of crying about the most popular loadouts, just use something else. Crazy idea, i know. Bastion is broken, arbalest is broken, nade launchers are broken, snipers are still decent. YOU HAVE OPTIONS. Use them if you don't like shotties. For primaries, literally everything other than sidearms and scouts is viable af. 600 rpm autos, 390, 340, 540 rpm pulses, all great. I don't get posts like this. Let people play whatever they enjoy. Theres plenty of options. People will always play whats the most fun to them. Destiny is known for its great handcannon feel, shocker that people use them...

                  • Lol so many people hating on the literal way destiny was meant to be played. It’s always been HC shotgun or sniper and it will be that way forever. If you don’t like hand cannons maybe find a different game to play….

                    • Lately I made the switch to chaperone, talk about cheesy easy kills. It even does an astronomical amount of damage to roaming supers.

                    • I've kind of had it. I'm at the point where I'm strongly considering switching to shotgun. Shotguns are so pervasive in PVP that it keeps non-shotty players from being effective in a lot of close range engagements.

                    • I use a lot of weapons, even as a hunter I use hamdcannons, shotguns, auto rifles, pulse rifles, scout rifles, snipers, fusions and the rest of them from common to exotics

                      • unlikely because hardcore pvpers absolutely love hand cannons and will swear it takes more skill to use than other guns. Plus, when it was autorifles people always freak out. Granted i fricken hate fusion rifles so i hope it's never them. I don't mind shotguns that much as i learned to defend myself from them once i was forced to at the higher levels of comp where at one point that was all you saw.

                        • I told myself I was done with IB last time around, but I went in anyway, and my first game was against 5 crimson's and a last word, -blam!-... A major snorefest as most of my time was spent chasing these fools around corners or trying to counter them and just wasting my ammo doing so... I get that people are going to gravitate towards what's most effective at killing others but what happened to playing for fun? Or is everyone just a wannabe competitive / 'pro' player now? I refuse to believe such a high number of the population are using any of these weapons solely for 'fun', but rather get stomped by them time and time again, and not knowing their opponents skill level probably presume the weapons are a cakewalk to use and skilled or not, they switch to them anyway. Nerfing certainly doesn't seem to be the answer though, some new maps with more open areas might help the peeking problem, though people will probably just avoid those areas forcing everyone into their 'domain' if they don't just want a snorefest of a game not seeing any opponents. Shotguns used to piss me off the most but I'm not too bothered anymore, its the best bet for close range after all. But I really do wish their was more mid range variety 😕 No matter what though I'm going to use what I enjoy using the most, win or lose, it doesn't matter anyway as my aiming is terrible due to various hand issues so the 'meta' doesn't even help me 😂

                          • Whenever I get tired of the peekaboo triple tap meta, I go to my Titan. Bump the resilience to max, equip War Rig, Sweet Business and tap into my inner Ahnold. You would be surprised how many metas that's walked me through. [spoiler]You don't have to make the Ahnold noises, but sometimes it's funnier if you do.[/spoiler]

                                • So I don't know on your end but on mine, when the shotgun nerf went out, it did nothing on my end, in fact it made it worse, because everyone who used shotguns went full into mobility and anything that could break past the 100 cap (riiswalker and stompee5 as an example) to go so fast that my camera had trouble just following (then I died), moving faster then Usain Bolt is a problem but I don't think another shotgun nerf will work, an idea I have (for PvP only) is that to raise the risk of playing a faster then light shotgunner, reduce the base amount health and shields a player has for base stats, and raise the bonus to having points in reilience, so player's with points in resilience should have little to no change while player's with less should really feel a sting. for anyone who reads this if we can brainstorm on how to reduce the shotgun scourge the plagues PvP, then we can brainstorm over hand cannons next! on hand cannons, I don't know how to help on that right now.

                                • What killed people's loadout creativity is simple. People are lazy and want maximum rewards with minimum effort. Bungie has always over tuned Handcannons. Bungie loves the HC / Shotty meta because the kids who pay their bills love it. Bungie has systematically removed any map that the HC / Shotty meta does not do well on. And last but not least good old Youtubers and streamers who kids worship.

                                    • You’ll have to drag 90% of the players kicking and screaming away from their precious hand cannons, which literally have “training wheels” according to a dev podcast. They’re too braindead to let them go or learn a new playstyle.

                                    • Auto rifle meta? No one actually enjoys. Pulse rifle meta? No one actually enjoys. Scout meta? No one actually enjoys. Hand cannon meta? Regarded as some of the best times Destiny pvp had even been. No, No we can’t. Because if we stray away from it, We get another season with no one pushing, no one peaking, no one playing the game. No one actually wants what they say they want. What they actually want is new maps that aren’t so close you can smell the other person deodorant. Longer range maps, and ones that keep longer sight lines, and more outplay potential is so much better then taking hand cannon shorty off the top.

                                    • But they did change the crucible, no? Everyone starts out on a level playing field now. Sure you can get rocket launchers and other OHK weapons but they're map drops, only 1 person can have them at a time so it's not like everyone is running around OHKing. Plus the movement was toned down significantly, you don't have 1 class flyng at the top of the map raining GL hell on everyon... oh wait no that's Halo Infinite, wrong studio
