Is Thorn Worth it?

Seriously? I just want Thorn and the Crucible grind is friggin miserable. There were PvE alternatives for the 1st 3 steps, why not one for the 4th? Damn, it's not even fun. Is Thorn even worth it? I liked the gun in D1. I don't remember PvP being this insufferable in D1. Edit: Finally got it. I'm not sure why people complain about the strike. It was much easier than the miserable PvP grind. I solo'd up to the boss and had a couple people kind enough to help me finish the encounter within a few minutes of joining. Whisper and Zero Hour were more difficult.

  • I don’t have it but I helped a random get it after doing the shattered throne so I can’t say how good it is or isn’t. The strike at the end isn’t that hard. It has blackout modifier so the thrall can one shot you if you have any damage...which you will... Titan bubble helped us. Warlock well would have been good. The pvp side isn’t too bad. My quest sits at like 25%. that was after like 5-6 games of the 3v3 mode. I’m being lazy on the pvp stuff because I’m trying to help friends get weapons that will soon be vaulted.

Not going to lie to you. The pvp step was better than the strike step at end of that quest imo and I grudgingly do pvp steps in most cases. I will admit it took more time to do the pvp step, but the pve step was def more miserable. First attempt for strike step I joined someone on lfg halfway through and didn’t get credit due to unclear objective completion markers. 2nd time had a similar problem since I thought the 2 arbiters earlier in strike were the ones you needed and thought join in progress screwed me. Third time I did it with 1 friend and it took like 3 hours and was a miserable experience in futility because of thrall and seeking balls of doom and having to carefully kill bosses in boss room that spawn at health increments. Coulda nuked boss from like half health and skipped the misery if that last arbiter didn’t spawn when boss was low hp. I recall it being similarly annoying back in d1 but the end reward gun was far better. Now that I got it I used it for maybe an hour and threw it in vault or scrapped it maybe. Thorn won’t ever be what it was in d1 and AR is meta right now so it is kinda killed for that.

    • It’s worth it. I’m not good at pvp and got it done. The strike however is hard imho.

    • You got a. Few days to hammer out the kills..that’s the easier part..the strike can phuck off..used it for a few matches and trashed it..it was way better in D1

    • YES, in beyond light it’s being upgraded to a 140 rpm HC... What does that mean? It might 2 head and a body.... Don’t get me started with the intrinsic perk might effect it...

      • Nothing is worth the pain of the final step mission, but it is a really good gun

      • Would Hardlight be better than Gnawing Hunger?

      • So i wanted thorn, real bad! When i saw the pvp requirements i just said to myself "i don't want it THAT badly" then about 2 weeks ago my pvp quest step was completed getting my pinnacle drop from crucible. It is better then i remember, if you can i would absolutely go for it. I thought it was hand cannon kills in crucible and i was using travellers chosen, so i was confused but hey, not getting 1060 arms for months paid off i guess.

      • It's tough if you aren't a PvP player. You basically have to expect it. This quest was much tougher in destiny 1, there was negative progress. In D2, there is no negative progression, just keep getting those kills. is it mayhem this week? Maybe use a void super? I used a thin line and void heavy. If you want it, keep at or just give up. Do you want PvP tips?

        • Yes yes yes. It's very good and will only be stronger as a 140. Highly recommend for both pvp and pve. Hopefully Beyond Light will also deliver us a catalyst.

        • I don't know. I can have a really good game and only make 4% progress. The Ikelos doesn't seem to help any more than the Optative. This is the most insufferable grind. Would Gnawing Hunger be better? I see a lot of it in Crucible.

i remember the ikelos HC being the best thing to use for it, but yes it's a very good weapon in both crucible and PVE. trust me though crucible isn't the worst of it, the strike is the one i had the most trouble with
