Made me sad that we'll never get storytelling like that again. Jump to the start of season 10 and NPCs are literally doing missions for us while we get to grind public events as a dlc.
Edit: I meant the Red War and I wasn't saying that it was the best one, just that it had way more substance and meaning than what we have now - which is nothing more than a glorified powerpoint presentation. Cutscenes and lore supplemented the story we were playing, not straight-up being the entire story.

Forsaken, CoO, Warmind, and yes, but to a lesser extent, Shadowkeep. Forsaken had it best. A campaign that transitioned into a longer story that went for months (via Mara and her visits) Shadowkeep tried something similar with the Lore book, but I didn’t find it as good. You get that style of storytelling yearly. It was always like that. The only difference is that D1’s was so bad at launch while D2’s was generic and mediocre (though, it does have its moments.) We’ll likely (very likely) get another proper campaign this Fall, how couldn’t we? The Doritos are coming.

Story telling in destiny is pretty bad. Especially when you compare the story to other games that have stories... That is why I never got into forsaken. The story is pretty bland I never felt any connections to any characters in destiny 1 or 2
-
2 RepliesI still dont get why the characters and dialogue in Destiny have to be so campy. It's like if you took everyone from The Walking Dead and replaced them with the cast from The Andy Griffith Show. 'gee golly, a zombie! Can we kill it dad, well can we?! Gosh, I never thought we'd kill a zombie (has killed hundreds of zombies....) Aw look at those brains! Welp, let's go get some dinner then. Jeepers, that was fun! *whistling intensifies*

4 RepliesLimping around at that slow pace for so long was painful
-
Even though the story was generic, still better then Vanilla D1 story imo. I at least knew what was going on, I don't have time to explain the differences though.
-
2 Replies
Made me sad that we'll never get storytelling like that again
.... You're kidding right? Also... Fall dlc
-
You can't really compare vanilla or dlc content with seasonal stuff. It's just not the same.
-
Edited by Ken_Malibu: 5/21/2020 8:07:19 AMYet it's still some of the worst story telling and dialogue you'll ever hear.
-
1 ReplyI don't like it, missions are stretched to be to long, and the story is utter bollocks. Found the shard and got powers back, yet no one asks where is it so they could do the same... Cringy and borderline annoying, probably aimed for young teens. Let"s condense destiny"s storytelling to one sentence: Big golfball in the sky almost died, until it didn't. Better not get storytelling like that again.

We definitely need to have future dlcs follow a campaign gameplay style of all of d1 and d2 vanilla. When I say that, I mean an actual campaign made up of story missions. Not this crap we got with shadowkeep that was 3 missions and a ton of filler content in between. Those 3 missions in shadowkeep were great, if the rest of the campaign were actual missions, it wouldve been fine, but it was riddled with boring, repetitive filler content to create the illusion of length and substance. That ain't gonna cut it. Back to the story mission format please. Even if it is short, its better then what we've been getting

5 RepliesEdited by RussellMania: 5/20/2020 8:00:14 PMI thought it was trash. It’s better than the D1 vanilla campaign, simply because it’s actually a coherent story. But it’s just boring IMO. No plot twists or revelations. When you go to reunite the Vanguard, you do 2-3 missions on each planet. Asher Mir and Hawthorne are terrible characters. The ending was awesome and the only memorable part of the story. I think the Forsaken campaign is the only one that began to even scratch the surface of what campaigns could be in this game. Shadowkeep’s campaign was far too short but the quality was in line with Forsaken.

Vanilla... D1? Or D2? If it was D2, I’m sincerely curious what interested you in the campaign? Aside from a very brief unique experience of being lightless in the beginning, the rest of it was some pretty basic run and gun stuff with a very cheesy ending, motivated by “storytelling” that was paint by numbers and frustratingly vague, to the point where I was more interested in the parts that Bungie wasn’t explaining than what I was playing. Not to mention the fact that at the end we were right back where we started, as if the writers got cold feet and didn’t want to actually change anything. Same Tower, same Traveller, same City, same Guardians. The Farm was left behind and the Cabal went back to being annoying space turtles. I’m glad you and others enjoyed it, I really am, I just expected more than what we got. Having continued to play through the later seasons, I’m not sure why I expected anything. This narrative team isn’t impressing me at all.

9 RepliesPeople honestly forget that the Red War was a rather good story. When it didn’t slam you into the paths of every other enemy race. This is why I prefer expansion storylines, they don’t feel the need to force you onto every planet to fight every enemy race.
-
2 RepliesIt has probably the most going for it imo. In terms of linking the gameplay to the story... I think D1 vanilla did it better, but “telling a story” wise it’s D2.
-
The first two missions were the best.
-
If only Bungie would incorporate more of the lore into the game the story could be so much better.
-
I honestly hate how the story telling is shadowkeep was a hot mess when we had to collect armour through bounties.

2 RepliesHad to do it 6x and I never wanna do it again

Instead of daily heroic story missions i wish we could just select from each story which we want to play or just play all heroic in order....
-
I feel you. Just started a complete new Account with the free stadia pro. Also I was interested how the game feels for a new light player...honestly that sucks. Bad explanations for the Game, and everything is very expensive with no materials collected over the years. They should consider a starter pack with materials and resources.

The D2 Red War campaign? I suppose it was okay. It felt Epic ( and a lot more cohesive ) the first time around, especially compared to D1’s Vanilla campaign, but it loses some of its impact after the 2nd and 3rd play throughs. However, Ghaul was an anti climatic main foe. And I feel that Bungie failed to deliver on their promise of how the Red War campaign would ‘explain what it’s like to be chosen as a bringer of light’.
-
20 RepliesD1 Campaign > D2 Campaign.

2 RepliesThe red war campaign was good but it’s ability to delve deeper into details was poor For instance ,the campaign was about the light and we virtually leant nothing new about it ,minus how guardians are chosen Consul states “I contend that other races would be more precise in their naming” when referring to the traveller ,and then just does not elaborate whatsoever I also wasn’t the biggest fan of returning to the tower as soon as the campaign was finished ,it made the red legions impact on the city feel not as potent as it actually was ,because “Oh the bad guy is dead now we can just return to the norm” I had hoped that DLC 1 and DLC2 would have us build our relationships with old and new hero’s to eventually strike back at the city just before DLC3 Imagine how impactful spending all of Year 1 trying to get your home back, and just when all is well Cayde gets murdered not long after in Forsaken ,Talk about taking things for a loop
