I really think that this use of vocabulary is historically and culturally very inappropriate. Just like the game current does not contain any "-godwinslaw!-" word (or maybe I don't know of its existence yet, but if it does, I don't approve of using that word either), I believe "kamikaze" to be same. It is not a synonym for self-destruct, it is an act of human degradation, one of many war crimes and crime against humanity done by a nation. And you cannot say that it was used as the meaning "the divine wind that neutralized invasion to Japan", because there is no such context in "giant kamikaze spaceship".
And yes, there are other games that use the words that I'm saying are inappropriate. While I do not personally approve them, they are usually games that have such context, that either the game contains such factions, the world is cruel and crude, and/or the characters are foul-mouthed or sinister or crazy.
From what I have played, I had the impression that the world Bungie is building in Destiny, and the character of Ana Bray does not fall under any of those above. Yes, Destiny world is post-apocalypse facing another apocalypse soon to come. But despite all feuds and bloodshed during the dark age, humanity of Destiny regrouped under noble causes and guardians stood to protect humanity. It was Bungie that separated light bearers to guardians, and Ana is a guardian. I really cannot understand Ana Bray using "kamikaze". Why would she use that word? There is a difference between carefree, casual personality to inconsiderate personality. I believed Ana Bray to be former, and I hope that Bungie will rethink about what vocabulary they are using to build and describe their characters and world.

So you want a less accurate description of the situation. I'd say they nailed it in that description.

Kamikaze is a military tactic. It isn’t an offensive term.

Edited by KONTROL: 5/15/2020 10:48:28 PMIf you woke up this morning, and your BIG HUGE PROBLEM is you heard the word kamikaze... You're having an AMAZING LIFE. Try living it without trying to control what everyone else says.

I'm not trying to be insesitive, maybe a game based on war isn't what you should be playing.
-
I can't even. It's not like they used a racial slur. And if you weren't even alive back when people actually did do that, why the hell are you disturbed? What should disturb you is the fact dogs sometimes eat they're own poop.
-
Satire or super sensitive pansy?
-
I sure hope this is sarcasm. If not, it's ridiculous. People are literally looking for things to be offended about so they can get some attention. That's just sad.

1 ReplyThis would make at least some sense if they weren't LITERALLY PERFORMING A KAMIKAZE ATTACK RIGHT NOW. But since they are doing exactly what was described, I'm going to need to ask you to get yo sensitive snowflake ass out of here.

Better not go outside then. Theres a lot of words you wont like out there and no one to keep you from them.

Dude, what? The word was used because (regardless of the original or exact meaning) in common or general usage, the word means to crash your plane, or ship, or whatever, into your target. You have to take into account that 99% of the world's population will only know this one definition. I also looked it up and the first definition I got was in fact, this example. I actually had to search the translation and origin of the word to get what you had. At the end of the day, when you look for something offensive, you'll find it.

1 ReplyJapan used kamikazes in WWll. Should be offended that they did that instead of this

1 Replyb8....?

You’re right. You are disturbed

It's just a word......

10 RepliesI don't understand why people cannot notice that this word can be offensive to specific groups. Yes, it is true that most people use this word without malicious purpose but couldn't they just use another word so that that specific people also can enjoy the game without concern and headache? Why there are so many people who are saying vulgar words and curse to this person? It is a thing we can talk about and this place is not meant to curse someone. I was shocked that you guys don't have basic attitudes. Wow, guys.

Those that forget history often repeat it.

Historically, Kamikazee pilots flew their planes into the enemy with them inside of it What are the almighty doing? Forcing a -blam!-ing spaceship into -blam!-ing earth like a -blam!-ing kamikaze, Ana had every right to say that, it was a historical comparison between the Kamikaze pilots and the cabal. What next, Cursed thrall upset your soft brain because they walk up to you blow up like any terroism would of any religion not just Islamic. Hell even -blam!-ing Minecraft has that. People like you ruin the flavor in games by trying to remove history from games in any way

Wow. Overly sensitive. GTFO!

4 RepliesEdited by an Ape with a d2 addiction: 5/15/2020 7:40:48 PMThe meaning and weight in words can and does subjectively change with time as they're adapted into common and widespread use that's removed from the original context. To someone close to the original cultural context, kamikaze as a word presents much larger inhuman crimes and personal tragedy. To many removed from that original context and world at large, it has become a more common term for describing acts of ramming crafts into targets as means of attack. The original cultural and historical context has been removed. Latter usage does not by default signal inconsideration towards the former. It's rather a different cultural context from the get-go. Of course those with the former context have a full right to be offended. But immediately by-default judging the latter cases' word usage as either negative *or malicuous (small edit for clarity) because somewhere else someone with a different cultural context might find it offensive, is also rather constricting and oppressive.

I like Ana's new voice! Its got that hot house wife sound to it lol.

I was excited when I heard that! I was like, the cabal must be mixologists at heart. “Wooooooooo we’re all gonna get s#!tfaced!!!! Pitchers for everyone!!” Thanks for ruining my plans.

4 RepliesHoly duck this thread is full of attention -blam!-. It's a game, get over it. No one is making you play something you "find offensive."
