I get it that Bungie wants to make us have to actually make decisions about whether or not masterworking a gear piece is worth it. I'm fine with that logic completely. But making it require 3 Ascendant Shards for the last upgrade on an exotic is just...too much. I'd like to see it brought down to 1, just like legendaries, but I can see justification for it at 2 also since they are exotics. 3 is just too much, in my opinion. I'm sure there will be at least one who disagrees with me just for the sake of disagreeing, but that's my opinion.

I'll disagree with you because I think you argument isn't valid. It's not that expensive because the nightfall drops the mats needed and its farmable. So the simple point is if you cant farm for the mats to make you gear maxed then you really don't need maxed gear to begin with. A generic set up used 7 or 8 energy to have what most people use and that's is simple to set up. If you're not running the hardest difficulty events you cant even tell that youre using par level gear. The price was to push masterworking gear, especially exotics, out of reach for casual gamers. Not as in insult but as a method to encourage them to branch out. I reference year 1 where D2 the casual game made many people who loved D1s grind and search for loot walk out and never come back. Casual gaming is cool and I'm happy to see people enjoy the low level stuff and have fun, but if something is too hard or too expensive then its above you level. Please join us at the top, but dont ask for them to make it easy.

It was already expensive before Shadowkeep. Now it's just insanely disgustingly expensive.

15 RepliesOr bring it down to 1 for exotics and 0 for legendaries. It shouldn't cost an exotic material to upgrade a legendary.
-
look I've masterworked a lot of items exotics included. For me what really matters is; does by masterworking it get you over the next 10th of a stat and is that stat important to you. It's got to be a 60+ to begin with. Run Pit runs to get gear that you can delete to get six and six. and just accumulate, save up for the one you want.

I mean the whole process needs to be reworked. To much crap enhancement core-upgrade modules- enhancement prisms- ascendant shards. I think it’s so dumb.
-
I finally go my 3 Ascendant Shards after years... Used it on my Transversive Steps and it's felt like the biggest waste of my time yet... I will never bother with that nonsense again. I'm cool if I never get to masterwork a piece again. So not worth it.
-
It'll happen over time. I have like 9 pieces on my titan masterworked and I really only use like 3 of them. Lol I'll MW everything I have if I can.
-
Or else make exotics get a +3 even +4 on all stats instead of +2 that legendaries get. Would justify the cost
-
3 shards would be more justified if masterworking gave more than just +12 stats AND adding a universal seasonal mod slot. As it is right now, you can upgrade an exotic armor to 8 or 10 and fit any mods you want in. It’s rare to use up all 10 energy on a masterworked exotic armor because there’s no seasonal mod slot available. But if it were me, I’d honestly not make it as difficult and rare as it is to get these consumables in the first place. I think just playing the game should allow for random drops of all game consumables, even a rare chance for shards to drop every now and then. I also wouldn’t cap the amount of consumables you are allowed to have in your inventory - period. If they don’t add a seasonal mod slot or generic mod slot to exotics and/or don’t add extra bonus stats to masterworked exotic armor, they should just make the cost just 1 shard like legendaries.

5 RepliesRemember when master working only needed masterwork cores and everyone complained? Pepperidge farm remembers.
-
Nah. Just run all the raids 3x on all characters. 3x Master Nightfall on all characters. 3x Dungeons on all characters. 3x Flawless in trials. Then grind 950 nightfalls till reset. Simple. ,🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

And hey there is still the ppl that think that Bungie has to charge what they do in materials or else it will break the game. Thing is I'm not exactly opposed to the cost either. I just think that "golf balls" should be slightly more available to the masses...

Have Xur sell prism and ascendant shards

Have Xur sell prism and ascendant shards

Lmao so that is where my shards went, masterworked my anteus (lol crayon eater basic -blam!- exotic I know but if you can't beat em join em) and thought dang I swear I had three before this, wondered why I couldn't masterwork the rest of my gear
-
It’s not too costly, it’s the fact shards are only available in certain activities
-
Eh, I don’t think it’s that bad considering how many most people have stockpiled by now. But it could make sense them changing it to 1, if they up the cost of the other materials for masterworking exotics.
-
I haven't fully masterworked a single piece of armor because the cost jumps way too high after 7-8 levels.
-
Just masterworked my first exotic armor today...it’s ridiculous. I finally sucked it up because I wanted the +12 stats
-
Eh, na, i think it's fine. You get more than enough resources just by running the pit 3x per week.
-
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
-
3 RepliesGet rid of Prisms and Ascendant Shards. Everything should just cost Enhancement Cores.
-
I do poh each week to dismantle for 6 prisms each * 3 so 18. It is very costly. Not much incentive for it though
-
Yeah why is it 3x the amount of ascendant shards? You can infuse exotic armour for upgrading for the exact same cost of materials as legendary pieces, why does the masterwork have to cost so much more? And then another 3 ascendant shards if you want to change the energy class. Ugh.
-
1 ReplyThen don’t. Easy fix
-
Exotics should be as rare as rocking horse droppings once again, and drop fully master worked
