What was highlighted by Luke Smith in the TWAB this week is really just the basic things that Bungie has established we should expect from any yearly update, actually less so.
It’s one pinnacle per season, not one per activity. Forsaken had 3 per season, one per activity.
Armor transmog. Most are excited about this, I personally don’t feel strongly about it either way. This is purely aesthetic and does not affect gameplay. I also feel like this will actually devalue armor to some extent, but we will see.
It’s one set of armor shared across gambit, crucible, and strikes, with unique shaders and emblems for each. (Unclear on this but it does not sound like unique sets for each activity). Here’s the direct quote: This armor shares a set of new geometry, with decals and shaders specific to the activity. Please note there is no talk of new weapons for any of these activities. Forsaken had unique weapons and armor added for all 3 activities.
New raid and trials armor once per year. This is quite simply the absolute basics we have come to expect since D1. Trials getting adept weapons is just how it was in D1.
Vanity and accessory items added to activities. That’s how it was in D1, not improvement, actually regression in a positive way.
My point is, don’t give Bungie applause for doing a little less than any veteran has come to expect to be the basics of a yearly update. I’m not saying don’t play destiny or feel excited for the future, this post is simply to highlight the expectations that Bungie themselves have established for releases and that hitting base expectations shouldn’t earn applause. I know Bungie is working without activision, this isn’t a knock on them. It’s simply what I feel we all expect to get when we pay for a Destiny product.
Personally, I haven’t played destiny in several months and have no plans of playing in the future. But, I played since D1 and until about a year ago had completed just about everything destiny has to offer. I still feel a strong connection to the game and the community, although I just can’t bring myself to play it anymore.
My ultimate take away? Don’t preorder anything. Stop giving game companies (not just Bungie) money for products before they are proven. Pulling away from a preorder norm will put the onus on these companies to produce the highest quality product they can do when it’s released it will get high praise and drive sales.

Edited by crazycazza95: 5/12/2020 3:11:29 PMEvery TWAB i read the same thing comes to my head "Words are cheap, action is where its at"

At this point the community is so used to seeing shit TWABS that when they see a basic one they go bananas

1 ReplyRead the TWAB and it’s not enough to bring me back. This stuff Should be standard.

Although I liked the TWAB more than the others. There are some good points in here. When adding perspective and context to the reason things got this way, it's easy to feel let down. Are the "new" changes wanted? Yes. Should they have already been in place? Yes. I personally don't give people much credit for fixing a mistake they never should have made. If a cook spits in my food, I don't applaud him finally giving me an untainted meal. But I can feel relief that I am not being fed saliva.

It's kind of a fancy way of saying they are adding less into the game. We definitely need to expect exactly what their track record has shown us thus far. How many ppl overall have 1 guardian accounts? Why move bright dust to account based earnings? There's most likely gonna be major cons to all the bonuses except for maybe the adept weapons for trials.... And who knows they still might screw that one up

That’s good. I applaud them. Just because it isn’t any better than expectations doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be happy about it.

Bump. And... I'm not sure why a high trending topic suddenly fell off the front page, when nothing else is really replacing it. Seems like shenanigans. #spinfoilhat

7 RepliesThis pretty much sums up my feelings. Not celebrating something most other games and developers do a few times a year. Not 4 years later.

18 RepliesCan we all agree that Luke Smith needs to SHUT THE -blam!- UP PERMANENTLY
-
A lot of it will likely be too little too late!
-
16 RepliesSo, if they make a change that we want to see, we shouldn't be happy about that? This forum is absolute shit. If Bungie do good, we're not allowed to be happy. We can only be miserable on here.

1 ReplyWould like to know how they presented these changes to their stakeholders. Can't image they'd be thrilled to hear that resources were to be redirected from revenue generating aspects of the game.

Edited by Dray: 5/11/2020 10:49:05 AMToo many people are giving Bungie props for doing what they are supposed to do, because things are so bad Bungie using the TWAB for flag waving is acceptable, that for me is not what the TWAB is for. They created this live service game, that a lot of us paid for, is it unreasonable to expect fun engaging content? For some of you no it isn't, as far as I'm concerned the main question Bungie ask themselves with regards to Destiny is this "How much dross can we feed the player base before we have to do what we're supposed to do?" This TWAB is Bungie realizing that dross isn't going to cut anymore that's why all these "leaks" have suddenly appeared about new content and the September content.

2 Replies💯 Bungie has lowered the bar so much that doing anything gets praised
-
Basically 90% of this is stuff that we had in D1 that they took out for whatever reason in D2 and are now putting it back in. Armor transmog has also been asked for since D1. So yeah basically all of this is crap that we had but lost cause of Bungie or stuff that we’ve been asking for for almost 6 FREAKING YEARS.
-
2 RepliesThats exactly what i thought. These things are the pure minimum we should be expecting. But bungie went so low the last year, people are going crazy for stuff like this. What about the poor unbalanced matchmaking, bad spawns, special ammo economy in pvp (i havent been killed by a primary in trials to date), strike exclusives, new strikes, new maps, 6-man patrol or matchmaking for seraph tower/altars of sorrow/escalation protocol, matchmaking for more activities (heroic menagerie, nightfall), new loot pool for menagerie, bad luck protection (for getting 5 pinnacle helms in a row) and so much more. Giving us transmog and 4-5 new weapons/armor and a couple of cosmetics per year wont heal this game.

Well I just filled out the survey that Bungie sent to my inbox, hopefully they got the message.

Well as much as I love Bungie, as a company, at this point, it's important for updates to revert back to the 'basics', for now, and letting it be temporary to grab their bearing. I think this because they are still trying to perfect a formula (embarrassingly for the past 6 years, the longest I have seen any game company figure this model out) of how to keep players excited for the 'grind' and have a solid incentive to play the game. I do agree though, that these updates that Luke Smith provided in the last TWAB are assuring, yet underwhelming because we have seen some of these features already in Destiny 1. I hope to see more specifics in the coming months, specifically in June when its around the time that Bungie releases information about the Fall expansion.
-
Thank the traveler someone else gets it so many people were praising bungie for the absolute bare minimum in this twab. I don’t -blam!-ing buy it they offering up less and less and expecting people to spend more on every verse without having to actually make content. They set a good standard with pinnacle weapons 3 a season then took it away and now are doing one and people just give so much praise. Shadowkeep was the start of this game going into the shitter they took so many steps backwards and unless there’s rave reviews I will not be roped into the next expansion will not be pre ordering anything else for destiny as the hype train is always on point but bungie just can’t deliver anymore it’s a damn shame activision is gone because this game won’t ever be at the level it was during the forsaken expansion and the seasons after.

1 ReplyThis is what happens when people set the bar so low, anything is considered an improvement.

26 RepliesEdited by ironBill: 5/10/2020 3:21:18 PMYour post seems in many ways a litany of grievances, which is your right to post. I may be a simple man, but the way I approach people and companies is this; if they say or do good things, I give positive feedback. If they don’t, I’ll be critical. Here, Bungie has finally stated some good things they plan to do. Will they? We will see, but pouring negative feedback on the intent does not give them the energy to persevere in the pursuit. I prefer cautious approval to “they’re just doing the bare minimum” or “they’re just lying again”. But let’s cut to the chase... if you haven’t played in a year and have no plans to do so in the future... Why. Do. You. Care. What. The. TWAB. Says?
-
3 RepliesI think they make Destiny worse on purpose just to make it better later. Seems to be cyclic. I just can’t understand how people forget their bullshit so quickly and then thank them for “fixing” stuff they (Bungie) screwed up in the first place.

12 RepliesEdited by eggs.: 5/9/2020 9:40:23 PMBungie: Hey, look we’re listening. We put Eververse items in game, pit loot incentive in the endgame, and we put new armor sets! Us: Yay! Bungie: It’s coming next year or in the fall expansion, which is in 4-5 months Us: Sully Wazowski face I think what they’re doing is a step in the right direction, I’m just wondering why they haven’t done this until now. That’s a small turn off.

They starve you so bad that after a while even a snack looks like a while course meal LOL that’s their game plan.

Now we will get old raids with "pinnacle" items, and transmog. Like it's someone revelation they came to. Starve the players for these things, then we introduce them again. And we look like we saved D2 in the process. How anyone can't see through this tactic is beyond me. But it's the "New Light " playerbase they are counting on. They know they never experienced these things with D2 ever, so to them it's "new". And they look like heroes. Just MY opinion. Not speaking for others, and respecting others views.
