Why is our armour left behind and what direction is this game going?

Not a fan of this. You know how long and frustrating it was grinding EP armour every week for one piece? Hoping the piece that dropped was Arc, had high stats AND wasn’t a piece I had before. I done EP every week since shadowkeep and only needed the chest, rest wee all duplicates. Now dawn arrives and your telling me that set is now useless? I masterworked it why? What’s the point in literally doing anything in this game now armour wise if it’s gonna be going next season? Mods disappearing every season, never really being able to hold onto Builds? How can masterworking be so expensive at the same time as there being Hardly anyway to get the materials? Wouldn’t it make sense to...I don’t know...make all armour ornaments? One set of each affinity and we grind ornaments? Where are the ornaments missing from the armour 2.0 trailer? What is this game now anyway? Can’t be a collection game because there isn’t a enough vault space and we can’t pull any random rolls out of collections which is most gear now. Can’t be loot game because they just isn’t enough loot for that and the loot that is there is reskins? Definitely not a PvP game, that “renewed focus” is no where to be seen, no new maps and nerfs left right and centre. So what is destiny now? A rinse repeat season simulator? I’m just confused by the direction of the game, I want to be able to use anything I’ve been rewarded with In the game, I want to be able to hold on to builds and bring them out/change them up whenever, but the game is changing none stop. Cant use new mods on old armour, artefacts gone every season so can’t save builds, bungie chooses what weapons we are to use by only allowing those mods in the artefact. I think you guys need to step back, and look at your game as a whole, really look though. Look at what made D1 so great and aspects of D2 you were praised for, look at what people enjoyed, and stick to it. D1 was a beta? Then what is D2 because launch was nothing like D1 and now we’re into a whole new way of delivering content. Is this another beta? More consumables every season yet no update to the space we have to hold them. You introduce armour 2.0 but but then activities like EP that reward good looking stuff is locked to one piece a week. You don’t have someone looking and double checking stuff like this? And oh btw, EP chest isn’t rewarding loot after the update. Glad someone doubled checked this to... Catalyst like sleeper still locked behind a raid no one does anymore, no at Bungie picked up on this? Vendors haven’t seen a reset in years ahahaha actual years lmfao “evolving world” only thing evolving about any planetary vendor in the past 2 years is the ever evolving boredom I have when getting a package.... Not to worry, eververse is bursting with goodies though, every season, every week.... Exotics.....that we earned....over years of gameplay....And grinding....that seem to be rarer than any decent patch notes .....CANT even be taken from collection with proper affinities or stats. How many times do I need to get the same exotic? Instead of being an evolving and progressive world, it’s now a loop, rinse and repeat seasons with hardly anything carrying over to the next to show for our time. When is there ever gonna be a “you had to be there moment” if I have nothing from the last season to show for it. As it stands now, I don’t think I would say to anyone who didn’t play Season of the undying “you had to be there man” because there wasn’t anything. It’s all gone now. Personally I much preferred the DLC form of content. So what’s going on? All time, recourses, care and funding going towards your new game with Netease? Is that why making destiny content is “hard” or is it just you guys have lost passion for this game? Who’s enjoying this? If you are great. If you aren’t, what’s your views?

  • I love Destiny but I am also frustrated with how everything is working in the game. The game is forcing you to play a certain way due to the artifact mods and armor being essentially useless after a season ends. What ever happened to play how you want with what you want? I get that Bungie is a little less equipped than before but the direction is confusing. To me an ideal "season" would be traditional expansions like they did with Dark Below and House of Wolves. Bring back some actual story missions, a strike, raid or end game activity like P.O.E. I like the battle pass system more than just a random bright engram in the past. But maybe after hitting max level reward at least bright engrams again instead of nothing. I HATE the artifact. Just let us gain additional level with XP and not have it rely on an Artifact that forces us to use certain weapons and mods that wont matter later. Plus I was under the impression that the seasonal transitions were can't miss live events. Fornite can have mechs and monsters fighting with concerts being held yet we can't even get an explanation on where the hell Ikora's dish went over night. Idk. I'm just confused as to what the hell this game is trying to be. I love playing it. The weapon design and gun play is phenomenal I just don't get what the point of this game is anymore lol. I'm sitting here last night trying to find 30 duskshards for a "new" bounty thinking in what way does any of this feel new? lol

  • they already have plenty of stats showing that a ton of players will largely ignore the new grinds to stay with their favorite armor that is already geared up bungie, pretty much generating zero new content -just new grinds, has chosen to force these grinds upon us because they have nothing else, even though it pisses off a ton of players their stats show that the micro income goes up dramatically with increased minimal cost grinds despite the dropoff from players quitting due to burnout and dissatisfaction i.e. the hardcore players just keep doing the grinds and keep buying micros - bungie barely cares about the casual players who 'will quit within a certain period regardless'

Well written and said indeed. This was the very same reason why I left shortly after Taken King DLC because Bungie had the bright idea to literally scrap all previous content relevancy to make Taken King seem appealing when it did the opposite for me and a lot of others. Bungie... STOP repeating rookie and rank amateur mistakes! There is no shame at all in keeping all content relevant, hell I'd encourage it if I was a lead at Bungie because then there are multiple ways to play to get your gear up to par which adds more value to the game.

Over 800 upvotes, plenty of player feedback, and they are just going to let the whole thread slide into obscurity...

  • Here's the kicker - Even if you buy in to the regrind for decent new season armor, eventually you'll realize how expensive upgrading armor is. The last few levels hit pretty hard. To me, that's one of the worst parts about the irrelevance of last season's armor. What's the message from all this? Find builds that don't require seasonal mods? What nonseasonal mod combination could've competed with oppressive darkness? Or arc battery/Husk in PvP? Is it that none of the seasonal mods really matter? Why have them at all? I feel like I've been here before...the place where despite all the things I love about this game, somehow investment finds a way to tinkle on it all...nice and slowly. You don't even feel it at first...until something tangential to it blows up. Like, armor you invested in becoming not as useful as no one told you it would be. Then you're sitting there...on fire...and the person saying they're helping is really just peeing on you.

    • Yeah I’m really disappointed too. I spent a lot of time grinding out good sets of armor last season and as soon as I was satisfied with my collection , there is a new season and my armor is now junk. I’m definitely not going to put in the effort like I have in the past. Totally not worth it! I can’t imagine that it’s going to continue to be like this because it’s a horrible design. I could do without all these mods and just get back to the basics. I don’t like spending so much time making sure every piece of armor has the right mods on it before starting an activity and then when I’m done having to switch them all around again. It’s a pain in the ass to constantly configure your armor!

      • I don't understand why that mod slot isn't just a seasonal mod slot that we can use all of the seasons mods in. Like...why do I have to pick and choose after finally getting the build I like and with the stats I wanted? It's such a stupid design to be perfectly honest. If they wanted to make us chase after the new gear it should've come with like an increase in maximum energy or higher overall stats (which might still be on the table), but if not then it's a waste of time. There's no point in promoting the "create your own killing machine" bullshit when your killing machine is constantly changing because they keep making stupid decisions.

Very well said. I sincerely hope that Bungie will address these core issues. The game does so many things right. The combat, art style and design, and the overall atmosphere and tone of the game are so satisfying. Clearly, there is a lot of talent at Bungie. However, from a systems perspective, Bungie really misses the mark. Whether it be acquiring/customizing armor and weapons through layers upon layers of RNG only to have the next sandbox update make everything you worked for rendered obsolete... Or having certain quests/content being tied to a character as opposed to being tied to your entire account, so you have to jump through the same hoops on three separate characters to access the quests/content... Or older content being entirely abandoned when it could still be incorporated into the game... Why do attributes on armor not roll in increments of 10, so there's no wasted stats? Why is there no way to customize the attributes on armor within reason? Why is it that you can't use any armor in the collections tab as an ornament? Where is the player agency? I'm critical of this game because I love it... but I know it can be so much better.

          • Well you know how Bungie came out and said that they would be nerfing a lot of weapons and regen perks because Guardians were too powerful and just chewing up content too fast? Turns out that rock solid armor setups were on the hit list too, after all that is big element of a Guardians power as well. Now I have no doubt that with reasonable time given it would be possible to create 2.0 rock solid armor loadouts for Void, Solar, Arc, Sniper, Machine Gun, Linear Fusion Rifle, dozens of different mods slaved to elemental damage type, and etc... It goes on and on. 90 days is not very long for the average gamer. Pretty tricky way of almost assuring that most of us won’t ever have armor as powerful as what we had with our 1.0 kits. If you do manage to grind out a rock solid loadout with 2.0 armor you’re not likely to have much time to use it before the 90 day trash day roll around. ^Important to note that ALL of that is just opinion based on my early experience with 2.0.

            • Since the beginning To Nowhere Just grind all year long Then grind some more in the holidays, while you work, while you talk to your buddy’s, while having sex with lefty or righty, or while you sleep. That’s what this games all about, extending its lifetime by making its players grind their life away.

            • I completely ignore the Seasonal Mod Slot. I'm not grinding for a new armor set each Season just for these mods. I'm going to get the right element and stats and that's it.

I think there won't be any update to old weapons and armor from the vanilla game or the other dlcs, because the money is in the seasons, there won't be a free update at all the way it looks, they would of done it by now in previous season. I don't see any update to old content coming, because new content in a money maker and old content is not. I talking about vendor weapons and armor, old armor sets not part of vendors.
