Freelance Comp Quitters

4 comp matches tonight - 3 of those matches where someone quit in the first round. Why is this still a problem, and why do I still have to lose points when some -blam!- quits? Edit - Could it be that these players lagged out? Possibly, but when I see a teammate whip out their ghost and vanish, that’s not lag. That was in 2 of the 3 instances. That’s intentional. Could it be a real life event that drew these players away? That could be too, but when you then go look them up and see them playing some other activity in the game, a life event probably was not the case. Could it be the player pool last night creating unbalanced teams? That’s more likely. Everyone playing IB to get their +2 pinnacles so smaller comp player pool? I can’t complain about my matchmaking times though - teams were forming pretty quickly. I do think team balance was a bit of problem in looking back at some of my matchups causing some rage quits. My rub is that it’s now easier to make progress in comp than ever, and if you are running freelance, matchmaking is likewise better than its ever been (although still could be improved). I have also found it easier to come back from a deficit to win the match. Losing 3-1 or 3-0; you can still come back to win. I’ve seen it. I will say, however, that a 3v2 matchup feels much more punishing than a 4v3 matchup was in prior seasons. I do think Bungie should take a harder stance on quitters in comp. I get that’s a balance and easier to say than to implement fairly, but they need to take additional measures. But, the bottom line is that if you’re going to join a match, then commit to the 10 minutes it takes to finish it, and try to help your teammates the best you can. Don’t be a -blam!-. Yes, I said don’t be a -blam!-.

  • Depends. If you're on pc they can boot you of you don't have a vpn, they're connection could be bad, or they rage quit. Sucks to have it happen and I feel you. Can't be worse than what I had to do and thats play a game with a dude that was afk the entire time but moved just enough so they couldn't be kicked. Seems the higher I climb in comp I either have trolls or garbage on my team. I envy my opponents.

  • Whenever I run into oem and jotuun I leave sometimes.... I play to get bounties if it’s totally one sided idc. as soon as my Luna quest is done and I have nf I’m done with comp. it’s the easiest it’s ever been I got to legend on the blueberry playlist with all the quitters just be persistent. Only reason to play comp is for the pinnacle/ritual weapons after that why waste time. Definetly not fun because player base is toxic and full of cheese. If it were balanced and fair no one would quit. The solo que is so one sided I just take a break and do something else for a bit and come back and start getting wins after it hands me cheese and one sided matches. It’s too easy to make up the points after quitting there really isn’t a punishment and the time wasted getting back my kd ratio vs time spent getting stomped in a one sided cheese match isn’t worth it.

    • Because the base game going free to play brought new players to the game....who don't realize that being told not to quit out of Comp matches is not a **suggestion** from Bungie. I suspect that there is going to be a really big, really nasty wave of Suspensions and bannings coming up soon. Especially on PC. Where hacking and cheating in PVP is a big problem right now.

I ran into a cheater/hacker last nigtt. It was a 1v2, tie breaker active, and I just got the heavy brick for my Black Talon and now standing on the Tie Breaker. Both opposing players charge in, I quickly nuke one with Talon, but to my surprise the second guy ate a direct hit without registering any damage. Black Talon will kill even when the blade hits the floor next to you. The team mate sees what happens, then yells "I ain't playing with no stinkin' hackers" and promptly rage quits, leaving us in a 2v3. We proceed to lose given the mismatch. >_< At this point, I'm just farming Luna kills for NF, but at least I still put real effort into winning matches for my team mates, hackers or not. Yes, I did report the suspect player to let Bungie investigate.

        • IB also creates lag right across the board. First day it dropped got 3 disconnects in Gambit Prime, 2 in a row early so i logged out completely and then again as soon as logged back on at night. Didn’t bother testing my luck again. Don’t know why they can’t combine SBMM with some form of region bias, especially if the playerbase activity is as high as Bungie claims.

        • I’m beginning to think that it’s cheating used by the opposing team. I don’t know how but I’ve had a lot of players quit when we’re winning or I get games where one of my teammates runs straight at the other team to get killed the entire game or they just jump off or fire mountaintop at their feet to kill themselves. Why else would they do this and it’s becoming a common occurrence. If you have Mountaintop your not that terrible of a player and why do this if your on a winning team?

          • I’ve had the same issue all week. Mind u I assume they’re actually quitting and not getting kicked. They seem to disappear when my team is stomping the other, then magically the other team stomps us

            • I don't need to read the entire post to know, but yes it is still a big problem. 50% it's due to lag or disconnection, depending on either your side or bungies, and a lot I heard was they would blame bungie, but then they would take it back, because it was on their end. Not all the time though. And alot of people are looking for easy matches, either to be carried or to steam roll people and when they get resistance on the other side the bug out. Like I was doing a Gambit prime match in S7 and we were neck and neck and I saw our team mate bug out. He thought we were going to lose. But we beat the other team and won. People who leave like that are wimpy little bantha fodder, Nerf herders. I believe there should be a severe penalty, it should look at intentional bug outs, history of leaving. And if it's due to network, you need to prove its not you. Tmho. I support this post.👍

              • Tbf I wouldn't be surprised if it was just players lagging out due to Bungo's "servers".

              • Keep in mind that even if you lag out when you log back into Destiny it will return you to the match upon logging in with the same character.

Unfortunately I don't think there is a good solution other than having more fair matchmaking and really balanced teams. You know they aren't going to fix matchmaking or team balance, so then what? The reduction in points per loss this season really was great, but I'm not sure what else they can do. There is a good chance that you were headed for a loss if a player was having a bad enough experience to quit after one round. You were going to lose the match and glory anyway with that 4th. That player was probably dying a lot, not getting kills, having lag issues, etc. You might be better off without that player feeding kills to the other team. Now you have a shot at a 3v4 with 3 players who want to compete. If there was a severe penalty for quitting, then a player who has given up after one round but now can't quit might just start jumping off the map to end the match early. That would be worse than leaving.

              • Bungie could do things to make it more difficult or punishing to leave matches. The first and easiest would be to disable the Return to Orbit feature. Sure, people could just close down their app, or disconnect from the internet, but it takes a lot longer to restart the game. I'm guessing a good amount of people wouldn't even bother just because of how long it takes to get back into the game after restarting it. On the 3rd quit in one day, your Glory should reset to 0. If you're having issues that aren't your fault, you shouldn't keep queueing into Survival because it still affects other people. I've only ever been disconnected from 1 match, and it was straight my fault (a brand new router was bad out of the box, so my PS4 wasn't getting a good connection), I didn't insist on continuing to play. I stopped, figured out the problem, and corrected it. There aren't many excuses for leaving matches that dont boil down to the users problem. No reason punishments cant be more severe. Even ddos attacks. If it's happened twice, then today isnt your day to play. Try again tomorrow.

                • Should be a day ban at least. CSGO bans you on the spot for a week if you leave a comp game. That is how it should be. To be fair cs comp games are best of 30 rounds with 2 minute rounds give or take, but still
